Hi. I have a dial up problem and have talked to the company 4 different times and still nothing. I run windows 98 SE and IE 6. I am on Rocky mountain internet and I am trying to switch to telus dial up(high speed is not available in my area). The problem is I can connect thru telus but am unable to check emails, browse the net ,etc. But I can do all this with my current internet. Any suggestions would be wonderfull. Thanks so much.

Make sure that your browser isn't setup to use a proxy server. Certain ISPs do that and your new one probably doesn't. To change this, Open IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options. Click the Connections Tab, click Settings, then make sure that everything is unchecked. Click OK to all boxes.

As for your email, it's probably setup to use the mail servers provided by your old ISP. To change this, you're going to have to get with Telus to see what their mail servers are. You would then open Outlook Express, go to Tools -> Accounts. Click the Mail tab, then click Properties. On the General Tab, change your email address to your new address. On the Servers tab, change the mail servers to those provided by Telus. Change your account info to that provided by Telus. Click OK, then Close.

It should all work after that.

Hi. I just thought I would let you all know that I think finally figured out the problem. After all was said and done it looks like my modem isn't updated enough and I can no longer update its driver. So now I am in the market for a new modem. I do have one quick question which ones are better the internal or the external modems(it's for a dial up connection, not the high speed dial up)? If you have any thoughts I welcome them all. Thanks again.

Hello

Internal modems are way cheaper. Good use for windows.

If you think you going to use linux buy external one, cause internal are giving big problems then.
External are good cause you see that lights, so you know when it works cool

AND you dont need drivers for external modems =)

I suggest you internal one, cause its cheap and maybe you get fast internet in your region soon
