What's your connection rate?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just wondering what connections people use to connect to great sites like OTS.

Personally, I'm stuck on dialup at home, but I have T1 access at both my high school where I aid and at my college. I'm glad I have wireless on my notebook!!!

Posted by: uh...ok

At home I'm on dialup not by choice but because broadband has not and will not expand into our area.

At school I'm on T3, I believe. The fraternity I stayed in during Campus Preview a couple years ago (wow it was that long ago) was supposedly said to have an OC-43 connection taken from a building across the street (though a good 'net connection is hardly a good reason when weighing choices of residence ).

I have a personal 100mbit fibre connection.

edit: hahahaha!

Posted by: Outlaw

Cable here. My download speed is 4 mbit, which sounds pretty fast as long as Null doesn't reply.

And no, I'm not gonna mention my upload speed.

Edit: bah

Posted by: The-AoD

Dail up here.. 28.8k GOGOOG Anyways I'm guessing Null's awesome connection beat you to the reply button LOL!

Posted by: Null Actor

Well, currently I'm at work. Only a T1 here.

Posted by: taco_fox

Dunno what my college has, but I've peaked at around 30mbit before.

Cable, 10mbit/1mbit cap, this is at home

That kind of speeds must horribly suck.

Although I'm on dialup at home, I connect constantly at 50.6kbps and have download rates of 5.6 or thereabouts.

Posted by: compukeith

Also, I'm at my college right now.

Bandwidth.com says 7.2mbps.

Satellite

Don't joke. I was getting 19.2 under windows, but sat and did trial & error to maximise the port settings and am now getting 21.6. Under Linux, I had been getting 26.4, but after a kernel upgrade I had to get a new driver, and it's not free, but my credit cards all happen to be maxed right this instant, so the driver is rate limited to 14.4. My camera only works with Linux, so anytime I want to upload from my camera, I'm running 14.4 until I reboot to Windows. That's the case until I register the driver.

I managed, due to some really stupid mistakes, to get over 20k in revolving debt. I'm going to knock that down by half within the month, so for a present to myself, I'm getting broadband soon. So porn, music, movies & warez, HERE I COME BABY!

It works great for me. I started using a satellite connection about 4 years ago. Originally I started out with a system that still required a phone connection for all of the uploading, which worked pretty well, but is nothing to compare to the 2-way system I've been using for over 2 years or so now. The 2-way ststems did away with the need for a phone connection which makes every thing faster. Uploading is still very slow, but fortunately I don't play games on line, or do anything that requires a fast upload capability, so it's not an issue for me.

The only thing I don't like about it is the price per month, which is about $70. I live in Bum f**k Egypt, so it's my only Broadband choice.

Dialup... 56k

Ouch who do you go through for your connection? And hey, you live awful close to me. Directions to my area, head straight for BFE then take a left.

Ahh.......so I see you're familiar with my Dilemma!

My service is provided through Direcway which originally was know as Direcpc.

Posted by: webgator40

3051/248 Cable

Posted by: Ocean

charter here also. 2mbit down/ 128kb up

i also install the starband and direcway 2way satellite systems. the buyers are usually, non gamers, out in bumblyfukegypt, whom are rich. $50 a month with 1300 ping.

its my belief that direcway is much better as starband limits uploads more aggressively and p2p traffic heavily.

Someone should start a new poll asking who your ISP is... I'm interested to see who is dominating the market right now...

-pSd#1
**cable powered by comcast**

Posted by: Qui Gon-Jinn

posted in the ISP..

here's my stats..

ISP is cox.net and I am on the outter stretch's of their Phoenix area.. not many ppl in my area with Cox.. so I get a little boost from the lack of users.

2004-01-18 17:07:28 EST: 2550 / 245
Your download speed : 2550854 bps, or 2550 kbps.
A 311.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 245188 bps, or 245 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

now you want to talk slow.. if I hook my laptop into my cell phone on the road.. I can pull a whopping 14.4..

Blazing Fast internet ...

BTW. my buddy live 20 miles the other side of BFE.. and then 4 miles of dirt roads.. they just upgraded from the soup can and string to copper wired phones.. he gets 20.6 ALWAYS.. we call it the Internot..

Posted by: compukeith

I like that, the Internot

Find the forum for your ISP here and see if they can help: http://www.dslreports.com

If its a line problem, your isp MUST fix it, as its their probelm. If they dont, cancel that crap and get something else. No point in paying for crappy service.
