Question about BitTorrent

Does BitTorrent support resuming? I am downloading a very large file and if I get disconnected for any reason (my DSL is a real bitch) or if I have to turn off/restart the computer at any time, I really do NOT want to lose what I downloaded up to that point... anyway... so much rambling... does it support resume or not?

Yes

Don't be talking about Bittorrent on this site, you might as well tell eveyrone that you like downloading stolen warez....

Yes, it does. If your download gets interrupted, or you close the torrent, just download the file again, and save it in the same location, and it will automatically resume where it left off.

At no point do I see him saying anything about downloading pirate software or anything of the sort, so we have to assume what he's downloading is legal, since what he downloads is his responsibility and really none of our business.
So really, comments like those are unnecessary, unless of course they mention something like "I'm downloading adobe photoshop off BT!", in which case, I'm sure a mod or laggy will take care of the post promptly, since OTS does not allow topics about or containing talk of software piracy.
And while your probably right, please remember that there are legal applications for file sharing.

Wow... now downloading Linux is considered illegal...
Help me out, how do I activate the resume?

Just go back to where you first initiated the torrent. It will ask you where you want to save to - just choose where you did last time. It will then make sure the file is ok, then resume perfectly.
And yes, there are plenty of perfectly legal ways to use BT. psd is just being a little paranoid since it is mainly used for warez

But I did that earlier and it did not resume, it took off from the beginning again. Do I need to choose the folder that it made inside the folder I chose?

No.
For instance. I went to download Knoppix 3.3 and had BT save it to E:\Linux Distros. Then, when I went to resume it later, I saved it again to e:\Linux Distros. It should then check the file, which can take some time, and then start downloading again. The download size (amount downloaded) will start from zero as it's like a new session, but it should work. Are you using Bit Torrent 3.3 (http://bitconjurer.org/bittorrent)

Yes, of course.

Is it working now?
Posted by: p3ngu!n
I have not tried it, I'll tell you when I do.

Make sure that when you close the torrent client, you do not hit "Cancel" and instead the "x" in the corner.

I've done it both ways and have never had any trouble.
EDIT: Or, I just shutdown and let Windows close BT.

It worked splendidly. Thanks.
But now I'm getting this:
Problem connecting to tracker - <urlopen error (10060, 'Operation timed out')>
Posted by: p3ngu!n
The download won't resume now that I get that error! Help!
Posted by: taco_fox
It's a common error, just keep trying until you connect

Let all be honest, how many pieces of software being traded on Bittorrent are legal??? Don't be rediculous, its 99% warez and anyone who contests this fact can go check out a MOD Edit and see for themselves.
Talking about bittorrent should be viewed as talking about kazaa. While its true you can find a few files on kazaa that are legal the MAJORITY are not.
Killa Keith is rite, i'm a bit warey talking about warez....

That’s like saying IRC is just for chatting. Many companies are offering Bit Torrent links now because it offloads some of the bandwidth hassle from them. File sizes are only going to get bigger and any way they can deliver there product faster and more efficient is going to save money.

While it is true that there are many different file types being offered via bittorrent the majority is warez.... and from what i've seen on OTS this is a very WAREZ conscious community.
Personally, I don't mind warez but i've seen some people get mad about it...
