AHH my HDD HELP?!?

I have a hp pentium 3 pavilion computer and when i start it up it says that there is no primary and master slave....and the hard drive disk is plugged up to the computer. My computer got a virus and i had to replace it with a new hard drive. i tried downloading windows 98 onto it but it says that somethinf is wrong with the HDD and that it hasnt been partitioned. and it says the reasons could be because that i havent used fdisk to partition my hdd or i had a virus...i did the fdisk thing and it said no fixed disks present and then i scanned my computer with norton antivirus and it said i didnt have a virus. and when i try to setup windows 98 it just says cant start up because the hdd is not partitioned or formatted.IM so confused PLEASE HELP. Ive tried everything and my comptuer wont start up..ive tried DOS commands from the windows 98 boot disk and it still doesnt work...please help me...!??!?!?

First, calm down. 
Second, go into your BIOS and look for an option that displays IDE devices. Is your HDD listed in there? I'm guessing that it probably isn't. Then go look for an option that will auto scan for IDE devices and simply reboot. That should do it.
