Can't wait till someone does the same to US Customs, and gets similar punishment. Except at that point, the outrage will be directed to the person doing the fingering, instead of the policies that required him to be photographed.

thats so stupid. just because someone thinks that he flips off authorities, he really did? what is this world coming to? so he holds a piece of paper w/his middle finger up, wow big deal i hold paper like that and nobody cares.

can't help but think the rest of the world, at least the ones who don't hate us outright, think we are way too paranoid and are off our meds...
a bird is a bird though...and in some countrys he would have had the hand removed...probably was drunk like most of the rest of the pilots who fly these days...

RACIST BRAZILIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
j/k, although that is pretty stupid. Here in the U.S. if you give somebody the finger, normally they just ecort you off the premesis or maybe fine you no more than $100, depending on state law I suppose.

oh i do agree, i think the brazilians (while it might seem a bit odd) are pretty justified in requiring the photographing of us citizens if for only the fact that we are doing the same to brazilians... now of course i don't know if we (the US) do this to all persons coming into the airport, in which case the brazilians are being rather petty if they only record US citizens. now as to the captain flipping them the bird, wether it was intentionally offensive or not, that fact remains that it can be seen as such. he should know better than to hold something in such a manner as the same gesture could be seen as offensive in our culture, so he can't claim cultural ignorance... which is why i prefer the british method of the bird, with both the index and middle finger extended. you get the mental satisfaction of expressing your feelings without the general hub-bub or the more commonly known bird. it would be especially useful in this case too, as the two fingers should be held slightly seperate to effect a good "f**k you", which could be easily camoflaged as holding the paper securely

(Off topic)
Don't give the "thumbs up" in mexico.
Suggestion: Someone should start a thread of what gestures are offensive in different countries.

thats really stupid i cant belive he gets charged that much its insane
Posted by: AOTY2KB
what is insane is the fact americans and brazillians have started fingerprinting! we're not cattle! we're not terrorists! i'm innocent till proven guilty!

Cattle have fingers?
Posted by: AOTY2KB
Lol...um...no. My point is it is comparable to tagging cattle in our international beef trade which at the moment is in ruin just like international relations.
