Could someone give me step by step procedure to change my Norton Security virus software. This is my problem. It wants to scan for virus everytime I open excel or if I'm working on my family tree. And it takes a long g g g g time to close the family tree and then norton locks it up. I don't mind the scaning if I'm getting something over the internet, e-mail etc. or even if I send something my self. But just to be working off line what have you it wants to scan. I find it hard to do any work at all. Is it possible to reprogram or reset the setting for this problem? Any help is appreciated.

first, go to their site and update the software. they have recently issued a patch for buggy code.

NAV 2002/2003/2004
Start NAV. If NAV is part of Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton SystemWorks (NSW), then start NIS or NSW.
Click Options. If a submenu appears, then click Norton AntiVirus.
Click Auto-Protect.
Check "Start Auto-Protect when Windows starts up (recommended)."
In the "Which file types to scan" section, uncheck "Comprehensive file scanning."
Click OK.
