Hello!
2 miles is kinda far .
I think wireless network cards are short range now.
I doubt you can do that UNLESS you want to get 2 miles long cable, from your home to campus

Yeah and have fun with you two mile long patch cable. CAT 5=100m(333ft) before the EMI sets in. Oh you could do it by tying into their fiber line somehow but good lucky fiber is very very expensive.

If you have line of sight u can setup a wireless relay using satalite dishes. But that gets expensive and complicated. You could also mount a powerful antenna on campus and send the signal that way, also expensive and complicated. Either of these means the tech people on ur campus will most defentaly not be happy with if they found out.

LOFL, I cant help but laugh at these suggestions. Im sure hes gonna spend a few hundred on something like that, only to have the school find out and cut it off, or something like that. Not to mention running cable that long would require permits, permission from the city, etc.
Get DSL. DSL is available everwhere in cities now, including apartments.

thank you for all your responses. although i am amazed at all the possibilities and suggestions i recieved, i think i will just let that one go. but, i would like to through in one more "dumb" question out there. is it likely that i could share a friends dsl somehow, that lives in a diffent apt. i am questiong this because i know it is possible to share the same username and password to dial up with a 56k anywhere locally. thank you very any information

You could get a wireless router and a wireless NIC for your PC. But that is against the EULA with most ISP's, and getting caught means the service would be terminated, permanently(might get a warning). But wireless networks arent very secure and other people could get on as well, if they found out there was a WAP there.
But that would be the way to share the connection.
