Broadband problems

Since networking my brother's computer to mine, I have been able to play games of Diablo 2 with a friend who lives on the other side of my state, whether they create or I do. We have tried pinging each other but this also does nothing, I ran a test on my system on the site www.dslreports.com and it also could not ping me on either TCP, UDP or ICMP. It also says that it could not see open TCP port 139. I am using XP Pro, I have no firewall activated, the confusing thing is that it was all working fine up until the network was set up.

simplest thing would be to un-network and pick up a router. is your computer the one hooked to the modem, or his?

mine is the one connected to the modem.
