Rise of Nations Router Troubles

Me and a friend of mine have been trying for a while now to get a game setup threw the built in gamespy network used in RON. When it attempts to establish a connection to any game the system simply sits there and never connects. We have had no problem setting up games in Age of empires, medal of honor, and several others but this doesn't want to work.
We both have broadband and routers w/firewalls connected. I assume this is what is messing me up. I have found the required ports I need to open to run gamespy/RON but I have no idea how to open these in my router firmware. I currently use a netgear rp614 router and winxp.
Any possible suggestions on how to open these ports or fix this problem another way would be much appreciated.
