Multiplayer Problem, Maybe wrong installation, dont know

when i select the multiplayer, it doesnt appear the number of players, when i host a game, it simply starts like a normal game.
Does i have a beta version of Diablo or what? I dont care this, but what i care is about playing WHIT OTHER HUMAN, i checked the lan and readed all the others advices of the conection but this is strange...

what kind of mulitplayer do you select? choose battle.net if you havnt been choosing that. then choose the server closest to you. create a battle.net account, then you will be able to chat with other people and play with people. When you start a game in multiplayer, it will start out just like the normal game, people have to join your game when they see it in a list.
