MySQL

I downloaded MySQL 4.0.1 because I need that to use a forum software that I found that's free and look pretty good (phpBB).
The problem is that I can log into MySQL, but not with access to create anything, such as a database. I created a user on my WinXP machine called mysql with it's own password and tried logging into mysql as that user, and it just gives me the following error:

Any ideas?

WinXP Pro
IIS 5.1
MySQL 4.0.1
phpBB (unknown version - latest from site)

Never mind. I found a page on WebMonkey that told to login as root. Once I did, i got it all working.
