Directinput problems

 my comps being a bitch today
none of my joysticks or gamepads work (all USB)
also, MAME32k and VisualboyAdvance dont work
i opened DXDIAG and got the following error on the Directinput screen:
"Error: Problem getting input info, result code 0x80004005 (Generic Failure)"
tried reinstalling 9.0b but no help
this just started today, very odd
any help would be appreciated
