Hello
My friend had a problem like that, as soon as you put the lid on the card would not work, and this is how we solved it.
The problem is that when you tighten the screw the board section moves inwards, metal bends, this then lifts the board out of the socket, only just enough to cause the failure of the card, it is not noticable by your eye on the side that much anyway.
This is what you should do, the plate on the graphics card, losen the 2 nuts that old the plate on then it should be lose, make sure you do this next step with no power to the board, insert the graphics card into the agp or pci slot with the lose plate attached put not tightened to the board, push the board down as far as it can then you can tighten the screws for the plate, make sure that the board does not move out of the socket when tightening the screws then when you put the lid on it will not losen the board from the socket due to the alignment issue of the plate, the other way is to put bigger spaces under the main board but this could be difficult.

Hello
I would also try to reset the bios chip, or you could take the battery out of the board if you don't know how to reset the bios chip, it sounds like it has a resource conflict, if you get it back ok you need to then set up all devices like hard disk and other bios stuff, plus the reason why putting your existing card back did no difference is that your friends card caused the resourse confict in the fist place, so inserting your own card back would do no affect since your friends card was setup differently on his own board, like your IRG = 6, and your friends was IRG = 9, so reseting the bios would then tell the bios to reconfigure around your friends graphics card.
Regards
Andrew
