Bad DirectSound driver

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: griffith9

(my sound drive is Sis 7012)

This is the error message I get when I try to bring up Winamp.

"DirectSound outpout V2.2.6 error
Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select
another device in configuration. Error code:88780078"

(audio on Bios not disabled, not muted, nothing wrong with the speaker)
I don't see the little speak icon on the lower right bottom.(used to be there)

I reinstalled the sound driver and that doesn't help.

My computer only makes "bleep" noise.(for all occasions)

Could you please give me any advice?

-----------------The DirectSound API provides a link between programs and an audio adapter's sound mixing, sound playback, and sound capture capabilities. DirectSound provides multimedia software programs with low-latency mixing, hardware acceleration, and access to the sound device. It provides this feature while maintaining compatibility with existing device drivers.------------------

The same thing happened to me when I upgraded my BIOS.
Go to your BIOS and look for the Audio section and I bet it's disabled.
Changing it to enable should sort it. You might have to reinstall you sound drivers.
