Universal Serial Bus is gone!

I need help! My OS is Windows XP Home edition. My printer was not communicating and I had to disconnect the USB cable and use the supplied Parallel port cable. I also noticed my mass storage device for my camera card was inop as well. I disconnected that as well, and I went into my device manager. I noticed immediately that the Universal Serial Bus icons were gone! No information at all. When I plug in a device such as my mass storage card reader, nothing happens. It seems that I have lost all traces of my USB on the motherboard. I have no idea what to do at this time. I have looked for patches on the windows site, but I can't find anything. I would greatly appreciate some help with this matter. I have an ASUSTeK CUC2000 Mother board. I am running Windows XP home with Service pack 1. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanx,
Ron W.

check in the bios to see if the usb is recognized. if not, a bios flash might be in order. if its there, and just missing in windows, try repairing windows.
if it seems to be completely gone, your motherboard may have blown up. in that case, a pci usb card might work.
