Instaling a new motherboard

I am a college student majoring in computer science, so I built a computer as a school project of sorts. I bought a case and a power supply, ASrock motherboard and a 1.7G Celeron processor, plenty of memory, etc. I finished putting it together tonight, took my recently added 80G hard drive from my other computer, and tried to boot it up. It kept getting stuck after the self test. Is there anything wrong with the motherboard, or do I have to do more besides play with the bios, which I already did?

assuming you have a video card in there, start removing stuff, leaving the cpu, 1 ram stick, and the video card and try to boot, making sure the pc speaker is hooked up properly. note any beep codes if it does not complete post.

Elaborate on where it gets stuck. After the memory count/verification, the IDE detections? Hanging at the Verifying DMI Pool? Invalid System Disk?

well since you played with the bios. it sounds like it boots normally. you just need a functional operating system on a functional and correctly jumpered hard drive.
the operating system gets specifically configured during its install to work with one combination of hardware. chances are your pre existing operating sytem wont boot on the new pc. you have to reinstall your operating system.
