dead pc?

I just built a PC, but after I had everything hooked up, I press the power switch on the front, and nothing happens. I get power because my IR port for my keybord and mouse blinks on when I turn the power supply switch on; but thats it. No fans, no images, sound, nothing. I thought maybe the front pannel pwr swich was bad, so I hooked up the reset swith to the power jumpers on the MB, but still no luck. I've checked all the cables, jumpers, everything that I thought could be wrong. Is it something I'm missing, or something worse?

other than a bad hardware part, you could have a shorted motherboard. check that nothing metal is touching it. pull it out of the case and stick it on an antistatic bag if necessary.

the thermal paste used on your cpu can also short if you get it somewhere else.
