I built my computer and i had everything installed. i then went to turn it on and it turns on for about 2 seconds and then turns right back off. I slowly took it apart piece by piece and i came down to the ram, cpu, it still doesnt work, i then took out the ram and it didnt work and then took out the cpu and it then did start up and it stayed on. when it stayed on the whole computer way bare, nothing was it it, just a mobo and power supply. please help, thanks alot.

did you put the heatsink/fan on the cpu properly using thermal compound/paste? the cpu could be fried and or just over heatting

see there is a light on the mobo, but i put everything on and the light is a red light and it says by it that it is the overheat sensor but i dont understand how it could be cause i got everything on right, like i took it apart to put in new modem and then it did this so im not sure. if i did fry the proc. how could i tell

Hello

Most moderm boards have thermal protection, this means if you forgot to put the heatsink on the processor then the board would cut out after 2 seconds. So you could not fry your processor, i would check the the 4 pin 12 volt pull up wire is attached to the board as well as the 20 pin power cable, if you do not have the 12 volt pull up cable attached then the cpu will fail after 2 seconds due to not enough power.

The connector is a 4 pin connector 2 wires are 12 volt and the other 2 are GND (Ground).

Regards

Andrew

if a thermal sensor indicated overheating, i think you have your answer.
