My friend, I am facing the very same problem. Did some research and reading, and as it turns out, you can not remove Media Player 9.
MP9 was not designed as a stand-alone component. It is tightly integrated into the OS. I am assuming that you are using Windows XP?!
If that is the case, the only way to get rid of it, is using the System Restore function. And even then, it does not get rid of all the MP9 files, just more or less prevents you from using it. To the best of my knowledge, we are screwed!!!! Thanks Microsoft!

Fortunately I have Go Back installed on my W98SE system which allows me to turn back the clock to a time before I installed the update.
