avatar loading

when i go to a forum, i only see the X instead of my avatar. I try it with several images in jpg and gif formats, but usually mine is the only avatar not loading. what gives? sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt!

Is it an avatar off your server, or a forum hosted avatar?
If it's on your server, it may be the picture, or just lag.

Thanks Chaos for your reply;
i'm wondering if it isn't just my computer refusing to read it for some reason. it might be lag--if it takes too long to load will the computer just give up and say, here's your X I'm taking a nap now....?
Here's what happens: I then visit the avatar page, then hit the back button and suddenly the avatar is there again! Do others see the avatar the whole time, or will they also see the big X ?
I have a forum of my own and i would like to offer my own gallery of avatars but linking to my other avatar/logo website is proving to be Xtremely time consuming.
Ideas? anything would be appreciated!
