fx 5200 dx problems

This is my last attempt to fix this problem before I have to go out to get a new video card. I recently bought my fx 5200 (not recently enough for me to return it!) and It does not run as well as it should. I have run it on various games such as:
Homeworld 2 DEMO
C&C Generals
Empire Earth
There are more, but these are the important ones. Now, on EE, the video requirements are a 4mb video card, (DX) I am lucky if I get 30 fps on a good day, and I KNOW this cannot possibly be a hardware problem, because this should run on a gf2 even. Now, on C&C Generals, the frames do not go down, the game speed does. I.E. for every 1 seccond in the game, 3 will go by in real life. This game reccomends a 32 mb agp gf3 or better. Now, I know I should be getting better than I am on this game. Even on a small map, with the really cool stuff turned off (3d shadows, and AA) It will run slow. Now on homeworld 2, and open gl game, I get near perfect fps and speeds. this game reccomends a (I believe) a 64 mb or 128 mb video card. This all leads me to believe that there is a DX problem. The vidcard box says it subborts DX 9.0b fully. What can I do?

You are definately correct, the geForce FX5200 should not be as slow as it is. Unfrotunately for you, this is not actually a hardware problem. The reason the FX5200 seems to good to be true is becuse it is. The card has never performed well. I too tried the fx5200 but forunately I was able to return it when i found out that it was bad. Take the card back to the store, ask to see a manager, and request store credit. They will probably give it to you. Then buy a geForce FX5600 or 5700 or Radeon 9600 Pro or XT. It is more money, but worth every penny.
As for the route of the problem: the card has poor DX rendering skills. Its a fact. If you are stuck with it, then try updating to the latest nVidia drivers. Also check your bios and turn on 8X AGP and AGP Fastwrite. This is the best you can do.
