how do I do modem play?

Have you looked at the game manual's section on modem games to find out what to do? I've done Starcraft modem games but I don't remember exactly how to set them up, so I'm not sure I can be of much help. If you don't have the paper version of the manual handy, it's in .pdf format on the Warcraft II: BNE CD.

it is all set up but what am I supposed to put where it says dial

You put the number of the persong your going to dial up and play there.
If your trying to get online to play. You need to connect to the internet first and then select the Battle.net option.

If both computers are connected to the same phone line, you won't be able to do a modem game between them, as the phone number of the caller and the phone number of the answerer are the same.
How are your two computers connected to each other? If they're on an Ethernet home network, they should be able to play in an IPX game together. Just install the IPX/SPX protocol on both machines and you should be good to go...

Well, what happens when you try to do a modem game between the two PCs?

well since I only have 1 phone number the one that I have call goes to the screen were you set it up the one I have answer goes to the screen were you wait and thats it
