Guitars wont play in audio files!!

Okay this is an incredibly trippy problem that I've been trying to sort out for a week without any success:
ALL my sound files, CD audio included, play perfectly fine except for one tiny hitch. Some of the sounds just don't come out. Its usually a guitar. The song just plays but without the guitar. It doesnt really occur throughout the whole song, theres just certain sections where there's something about that sound that Winamp, WMP and all other sound apps just don't like. (For example, in Sleep Now In The Fire by RATM, the whole song is fine except for the crazy guitar near the end, which just isnt there.)
I tried looking for patterns in pitch but it randomly affects high and low sounds alike. I've also tried replacing kmixer.sys, but, nope. Please help me out as I don't want all my songs turned into drum solos.

Make sure all your cables are completely plugged in properly.

No seriously thanks immensely. I was so caught up in the idea that it was something with my mixers that a thing like that never even occurred to me, half because of preconviction and half because I'm an idiot.
(I like your signature, by the way. Ever read any Tom Robbins?)
