Trouble installing/uninstalling

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm using WinXp Professional, and I am having trouble whenever I install or uninstall programs. It usually hangs near the end or at the very beginning, sometimes to the point where I give up on it. If the install/uninstall tries to set a restore point it will not function and just sits there doing nothing. My task manager lists it as running although 15 minutes of sitting there doesn't seem like it is running too well.... Has anyone else encountered these problems, or possibly have an idea on how to fix them?

Thanks.

run the usual virus and spyware scans, and scandisk and defrag. should they not turn up anything of interest, boot from the xp cd, start the installation process, and select repair installation.

You may want to try starting the system in the "Safe Mode" and then uninstalling via your "Add / Remove Programs" applet in the Contro Panel.
