Calling all experts... i needed help to know what software to use to be able to connect our pc "my pc" -p4 1.7ghz/xp and "her's" p3 833mhz/win98 that she can use her pc and connect to the net without me having to stand for a while and chacha while she send email in "my pc"? also what hardware(s) needed? i have an internal modem/no lancard while she has both in her pc. Thanks a lot! i'm looking forward to hearing from you guys before a major chaos ensues!

I'm not any kind of network expert or guru, but I can tell you how my own 2 pc's are networked. Both of my pc's on the network use Windows2000 and are connected through a 10/100Mb Linksys router and 100Mb ethernet cards.
My internet connection is from a cable modem connected to my main pc, and my main pc shares the internet to the rest of the computers on the router.
I dont use any special software to connect or configure the network. I am assuming your connections are like mine. Basically, just make sure both pc's have the same workgroup name. Set the main pc's connection going to the router as 192.168.0.1 and set the other pc's ethernet card as DHCP. If you have a firewall then make sure its letting all traffic through the ethernet card that is connected to the router on the main pc, but not the card on the main pc that is connected to the internet. And don't forget to allow internet connection sharing on the adapter connected to the router on the main pc.
You can check your ip address by typing 'cmd' in the run box in the start menu. Then type ipconfig (win2k) or winipcfg (win98). You can also type: ping <address> to test your connection.

You may just want to go to google and do a search. Type in something like "Windows 98 xp network" or whatever key words you think will narrow the search. Thats how I became familiar with some of the networking lingo.
I'll post a link for you if I can find a good one.
