Taskbar freez xp probelm

I ve recently encounterd this problem. I'm surfing the net for about an hour then all of a sudden when i click start only the load icons appear. i try to click a desktop icon but nothing happens. At first i thought it was a virus but after running my virsus scanner no virus detected. Any suggestions.

yes, that would be logical in an xp forum with xp in the thread title, wouldnt it?
check your cpu and ram usage to see if they are reasonable for what youre running after youve done a few things, like opening and closing a program or 3.
