i was using aim and winamp at the same time and my computer crashed and then after it crashed, it came up with a BSOD and then came up with the following stop messages:
0x000000ED
(0x81BE2AS8, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I already tried safe mode and fail safe, default on my BIOS.
Please help and thanks in advance....

tried to do what?

Lolz, sorry about that, I am using my friends computer, and a second ago it wouldn't acess this site. So I had to get a friend to type it for me over the phone on his computer. I will now type it again.
I was using AIM and Winamp when my system crashed. I restarted it and a blue screen came up with the error message:
Unmountable_Boot_Volume
It also came with these stop messages
0x000000ED
(0x81BE2AS8, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I tried booting my computer in safe mode and also using the Fail Safe mode in my BIOS.
I know it's not an overheating issue because my system temperature is 24 and my processor temperature is 50. This has happened before [ the random crashing ] but it happens once a month and I could usually fix it by just running windows in the ' Last configurations that worked ' option. Didn't work this time though.
Also booting it in safe mode gives me a different stop message:
0x000000ED (0x82BE2AF8, 0xC000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Thanks for any help in advance. I would search it myself but this computer I'm using now is very weird and can't acess alot of sites.

well, fortunately, its actually a deliberate error by MS to prevent further damage. anyway, i didnt see anything more useful than their own solution list, so here it is.

Thank you Redwench for the reply, but that cannot be the right solution. [ I've read that already ] I have not upgraded my OS and I really don't think it's the UDMA hard disk controller [ Is that ' Hard Drive ' in blunt terms? ] because I've been using the same computer specs for over 2 years.
Can anyone please help me further? This is really frustrating because I can't even access Windows so it's basicaly a dead system. I'm gonna have trouble sleeping at night because I'm so used to the whirring of my comp o_O
Thanks in advance.

you didnt read very far.
This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions is true:
* Your computer uses an Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller, and the following conditions are true:
o You use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.
o The basic input/output system (BIOS) settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes.
* The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.
id guess you have option b, unless your controller suddenly failed. no, the controller is not the hard drive.

I read all of it, just didn't really understand it because I'm n00b at this problem.
So what exactly is a UDMA hard disk controller and how do I know what type of connector cable I have? I don't even know if my computer USES a UDMA hard disk controller. And if I do have it then how do I force it to use lower modes?
Can you also explain what a file system is, since you say that you think it's damaged. And how can I fix it if all I can acess is BIOS? Do I need a new computer all together? x_X
Thanks for the help.

I did some more searching and came up with this:
Posted by Adrienne Parga on April 21, 2002 at 21:06:53:
: I am presently using my laptop.
: Last p.m. I turned on my personal home PC. All of sudden my PC went down and the message I received is the PC has an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. So I would like to know how to troubleshoot or recover system. I tryed checking my BIOS setup and also I tryed safe mode which the PC won't allow me to access.
Someone has the same problem as me! The people who replied suggested this:
Start your PC with XP install disk. Select Repair option. Go to the DOS prompt. Type chkdsk /r /p + enter. When check disk is finished, type fixmbr + enter.
That would work. Good luck !
I'm anticipating it will work, the only problem is I don't know when to put the XP install disk in or how do access it. I've tried putting it in both my cd drives and restarting it and running my computer. It still goes through the same process and gives me the same options I.E. Start normally, safe mode, last known good configurations.
I did read somewhere you were supposed to press 'R' during the process but I've already tried that and it doesn't work.
Can anyone please help me?

yes, that is the same advice that MS gives on the page linked above. nothing new there.
you need to boot with the xp disk, which means going into the bios and putting the cd drive as higher in the boot order than the hard drive.
your controller is part of your motherboard in your case. if its gone, you need a new motherboard. you dont need to worry about the cable, if its run for 2 years with it, its the correct one.

Thanks so much for sharing your vast amount of information Redwench, always welcome. And I'm sure I'm speaking for alot of people when I say that. I almost always see you in every thread ^_^
Well I did run the XP home install disk and it's running the Chkdsk as I type this. About 65%. It's running on only one of my drives [ C drive ] right now, so when it's done I'll see if it runs on the other one too.
I'm gonna try typing Chkdsk /p /r [ is that a bad idea? Don't think so.. ]
Anyway, thanks for all the help again, I'd post the solution but it's basically already here, I'll let you know if my computer lives again!!!
