GTAIII errors

Howdy,

Yesterday, I broke down and bought GTAIII and since then, I've had major issues with the game not wanting to work right.

I've got a P4 (1.8 GhZ), 512 MB of RAM, a GeForce FX 5200 with 128 MB of on-card RAM+ an additional 64 from main memory if needed and intregrated audio on a XP Home system.

The erros are either crashes due to an unhandled exception or the game flashes and sometimes stops with "Error on reading GTAIII DVD" (or something similar). I even installed the 1.1 patch hoping that it would fix the problems and it hasn't.

I'm about to uninstall it and take it back to Wal-Mart.

Before I do, though, I've got two CD drives in the machine, and one is a DVD-ROM, but, far slower than the other CD-R drive. WOuld it be better to re-install using the other drive or is there a way I can tell the game to switch drives without bothering the install?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, when you install the game, does it only let you play from one of your drives? Most games usually will let you play from either, but certain games like Vampire will only let you play from the drive you installed it to. Try running it from the other drive first. if that doesn't work, reinstall it using the other drive. That probably isn't your problem though. Do you have any issues with your sound? Sometimes integrated sound/video is bad for gaming, but that's not always the occassion. Somebody else should be able to help you further, as I am not a computer genius.
