Sounds like the game was unintstelled, or your d2exp.mpq is currupted, try running a scan for spyware with Ad-Aware or/and Spybot S&D, then run an online virusscan from www.trendmicro.com. IF thier is nothing found, try reinstalling the game. You should not lost you character since the caracters are stored on the server. As far as you character for you single player games, when you uninstall it should ask you in you want to uninstall all data or just game dtate, tell it to just unisntall all game data, and your single play character should be ok.
