None of the above...my current recent fav (although it's a few years old) is Neverwinter Nights.
My old time favorite (to keep it short), Space Quest 4, the Might and Magic Series, Betrayal at Krondor, and Ultima 6. Sorry those are a lot of games. 
I've never played Rogue Spear, I can't stand War3, I got so bored with the Warcraft series, and I've had enough Diablo II for a lifetime.

We know why Starcraft wasn't listed because it's basically in all aspects possibly the greatest game ever made thus far, for it's category. [ Pc Games ] It's impossible to compare FF7 to Starcraft for example. Starcraft would just destroy all the competition in the poll. Statwise, Starcraft has cumulatively sold more copies than any other game. [ I'm pretty sure ]
Also, Starcraft has THE LARGEST community out of any pc game. [ Don't argue with that statement, it's really pointless, because it's a straight out fact. ]
For me, I've been playing this game for 6 years since 98, and I still love it. It has endless possibilities, and really won't die unless Blizzard decides to close down Battle.net.
This is the only pc game where people have made enough money to live decent lives with. Pro gamers in Starcraft are a much higher caliber than pro gamers of any other pc game.
- Just a miniscule portion of why Starcraft is the best PC game of all time in my, and many many others opinions.

In general all Blizzard games are great. Up till now so many pplo play Diablo and the popularity for Starcraft has eluded my comprehension. I've only been playing the game for a year now and i am hooked. GTA 3 and Vice City are still my fav games tho.

I love the Diablo games....Hmm other than that I'm not much of a gamer, except sims and tycoons and UT (I used to be pretty good at that game if I do say so myself)...lol....right now I'm playing RPG World Online....Just to pass the time...plus my hubby is into it and I like playing games with him (If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have played any games except console games)

I've been really diggin Neverwinter Nights. I'm way behind on everyone else, whereas I've just gotten my first taste, but the game is awesome. I prefer a lot of older games to newer games, since there isn't much new stuff out there that I care for, and the fact I hate pay to play monthly fee games.
I'm still waiting for DOOM 3 and Lineage 2 (which does have a single player campaign)
edit: Also still waiting for Beyond Divinity....Divine Divinity kicked so much ass.

The difference is this:
I considered both games and I judged as fairly as I could before I made the decision long ago that Starcraft was 10x better than any game from the Diablo series could ever be. That's the best I can do.

I can say this... I've played Starcraft since it first came out, along with Brood War. Those are the best strategy games I've ever played, but I wouldn't give it greatest game of all time. I would definitely rank it best strategy though. Diablo II was fun for awhile, but it just gets so boring with all of the clicking, and running through the same things over and over. The opponents never really change, except in dueling, and even then most people follow the same patterns over and over for each character. Diablo II is a great game, but I've grown very tired of it.
And Ack, that was some serious flaming, but keep in mind that Hulk is only a 14 year old kid.

Does anyone know where I can get Broodwar. I went to several software stores and could not find it. Is there a link where I can get it, or just get the demo or beta version. I would really like to see this game.
My favorite out of a long list that doesnt involve strategy games is Tribes. I know some of you may not have heard of this game but I love it. Have fun gaming!

Wow, you live in Georgia? So do I. Lilburn/Stone mountain specifically. Anyway, If you do live in Georgia it should be easy as hell to go buy it. Best Buy and Wal-Mart should have the battle chests. [ Starcraft and the expansion broodwar along with 2 strategy guides ] for only $15 or so. Broodwar is really cheap since it's been out so long, and I gurantee you nobody has the beta version ^^

Can't believe I overlooked Tribes. That was definitely a great game, and probably is infact my favorite.
Oh the countless hours logged playing that game, and the infinite amount of mods made to Tribes kept it more fun than anything I've ever played.

I think you sir have highly underrated war3. I think that nothing beats war3 in startegy games unless you want to comaper it with the command and conqueror series but even then it is questionable. But I suggest to ALL that like pc games should explore war3. I like most other fans cannot wait till world of warcraft comes out. Thats definitely at the top of my list for games to buy. If anyone agrees with anything I just sed il like to see it posted

I wholeheartdly concur.
By the way, you people need to calm down about the whole starcraft/flaming/etc. argument. Please, this is a community, and everyone should get along.
I hate saying this, but they're just games.
That's all. 1's and 0's programmed to do a certain thing. SDon't fight over them, it is a waste of time and energy.

My all-round favourite: Severance - Blade of Darkness (BOD) 
This game knocks 'em others out colder 'n' a wet mackerel. And for one simple reason: unparalleled MEMORY MANAGEMENT.
Within each world, there are NO loading times whatsoever: both environments AND characters are managed in real-time. I've never seen that in another game - even Soul Reaver 2 or Halo, where only the environments seem to be free of loading times (which is already appreciated btw)
The only thing I didn't like about BOD - a trifle - there was no strafing..
But the game's an allrounder: commendable graphics (top notch at its time, decent even by today's standards) and sound/music, realistic light/reflection/shadow effects (EXTREMELY rare even in recent games!), easy gameplay with fully mappable controls, a long game life, good replay value...
... a masterpiece I would recommend to any demanding gamer.
PS. for the more squeamish type (ladies? ): gore effects can be reduced or even switched off at any moment before or during the game http://www.mega-content.de/smilies/.../brutale/56.gif

Great advice? Basically he was telling me to get along with him just because we are members of the same site. I don't think THAT'S in the forum rules is it? I'm sorry but it's quite impossible for everyone to get along. The best that can happen is to just ignore the situations in the future, which I will now do.

Ack1027 and N00B_MURDER, I think you guys are really missing the point of Canis' post. These forums are a great place to go for help, and Canis and the other mods really don't want to see petty bickering. Whether you realize it or not, you ARE acting like 10-year-olds if you respond to hulk's post with something that is just as inappropriate or even more inappropriate. Good story = i always liked the story of being a marine on a crusade to defend the human colony that's why i also bought the Halo story because i found there what i'm yearning when i played Q2 to fight side by side with a moderately AI'd fellow marine and not just to see dead bodies lying or helpless.

For being "revolutionary" RTS in its time 1997. nice storyline, nice graphics even on P1 w/o MMX, rotating/zooming in-out viewpoint.

the 800x600 resolution sucks major ass on an LCD
the damn map unit caps of like 200, really limit the game for me.
they need to do an update of just higher resolution, higher color, better sprites (no 3d camera angles) and remove the damn map caps. nr 10 mins for 6 peeps, and the zerg always win i think im gonna play the game now)

Alien vs. Predator 2 is a great game. Very fun to take out an owning Predator with a lunge attack from behind. Its the same feeling as knifing per say...a sniper in Counter-Strike.

I think Neverwinter Nights + the 2 expansions, is my all time favourite.
Big! nice story, and even if the graphics is'nt really up to date, I love that game.
Really looking forward to NWN 2. Release: Sometime during 2006.
Another good thing is, that Atari included a toolkit. That makes it possible for you to make your own heroes, weapons and stuff, even new small adventures.
You can download such things for free, premade . Just join the NWN forum.
My favourite premade hero, is Legolas Greenleaf. With a super bow and other real neat stuff.
