Dont Buy Alienware Machines!!!!!
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi, there. This is a warning to anyone out there that is even entertaining the idea of buying an Alienware machine. DONT!!!!! They are nothing but trouble with tech support that has no clue as to how to identify and fix problems. There customer support services runs you in circles to avoid you complaints, and they all have a habit of loosing track of case files and they lie when they can't figure out how to help anyone. Here is my experience with them to back up the previous claims.
In July of 2003 I placed an order on line for a desktop with Dual AMD Anthlon 2800's, 1 GB of RAM, Nivida Quadro FX 1000, 2 segate hard drives (1 for 120GB and 1 for 80), WIN XP, and much more. All this for the purpose of running a 3D program called Maya. I waited for about over a month and I finally got it. I was so happy to plug in the computer and start working. Well I plugged it in and guess what? It wouldn’t turn on. I made sure my monitor was plugged in correctly and tried again. Yet nothing on screen. I called Alienware tech support and they told me that my monitor was to blame and that it wrecked my system. How it had wrecked it they couldn’t say. They even had me try to reinstall windows to make sure that the OS was working. While in the process of reinstalling Windows the computer began to restart on its own. It became apparent after 5 hrs on the phone with tech support that I had to send the computer back to them for repairs THE DAY AFTER I RECIEVED IT!!!!!! Mind you I was very angry at this point but I said fine just fix it and please send it back to me quickly. So I mailed it back out and waited. And waited, until finally I decide to call after 3 weeks to see how things were going. When I called customer service they said that they didn’t know where the computer was. Then they said no we found it but its still being serviced waiting for parts and to call back in a week. So I did and a week later they still were waiting on parts. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said that it would be completely done at the end of that week (week4). So I call back that Friday to see when it would be shipped out and they said sorry we are waiting on the fans on the case to be attached to the power supply. Now I know it takes all of 2 seconds to attach the fans to the power supply and it was taking them 2 days to do it. Then I called again to ask them what had exactly been wrong with the machine and they could not tell me anything. They kept giving me the run around and no one knew what parts where being replaced and what was wrong. After numerous calls with no answers I became fed up and asked for my money back. I asked again and again and they told me I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee for a computer I never used. Then after some yelling they convinced me that the problems with my pc would be resolved and it would be great when I got it. So I reluctantly agreed and waited another half a month for the computer to finally come.
When I received the computer the second time it was mid October. This time the computer did turn on. On the tech support invoice that I received it stated that the second hard drive and one CPU was replaced. That tells you right there that some thing was really wrong. Then I noticed every so often that the computer again would restart by itself in the middle of loading windows. I called tech support again and they said that this time my video card drive was to blame. So we tried to install an older version of the driver. At the moment that seemed to solve the problem, but then it began again a few weeks later. I noticed that whenever I ran a program that used both processors the computer would restart. I called tech support again and they said again that the pc would have to be sent back a second time for repair with no idea as to what the problem was. Now this infuriated me. I again asked for my money back stating I didn’t want the computer anymore and that I would immediately build one by myself. They again talked me into sending it back for repairs guaranteeing that everything would be fine. The problem with sending it back was that I was in the middle of school finals and all my work was on it and I could not send the computer in for repair until I had moved back home from college. Then I had asked for an onsite technician to fix my computer. They denied me saying that it was unnecessary. So after I moved I called them stating that i think my PC is orver heating. Tech support walked me through the process of reading the Cpu Temp and to my surpise they read both at 175 degree Feriheit. the tech support guy told me to check that the fans on the CPUs were running. They were but the fan on the side of the case was not. After discovering this I mailed the computer out at the beginning of February. It took them about 21 days the send it back to me.
Now I have just received the computer a 3rd time. Now it did turn on and seemed not to have any problems. And all they did to fix my provious over heating problem was to add more fans to the casing. after figuring out what was wrong and chalking it up to bad luck I decided to be safe to install Norton Antivirus so that anything else I install on the computer wouldn’t put a virus on it. So I finish the installation and did an auto update of the virus definitions. Then it asked to restart the computer in order for the changes to take effect. I clicked yes and the system went crazy! It started to restart on its own again!!!! The same problem was happening again and I sent it back 2 times already. I called tech support and they said that it was the Norton that messed up the OS so we had to install the OS again. Isn’t this sounding familiar I thought. So we go ahead and try to install the OS again and again it restarts in the middle of the process. The tech support guy then had me try to format the hard rive and then reinstall Windows. During the process of reformatting the pc restarted again. Through the course of 8hrs I spoke with 4 different tech support employees who all gave me different reasons as to why my pc wasn’t working. The second guy I spoke to said that the recovery CD that Alienware sent me was corrupt and that they need to send me a new one. I asked for it to be overnighted to me and they said they couldn’t do that and it will take a few days to come in the mail. The next tech guy I spoke with said no its not thier CD it was Norton and to try to install the OS on the second hard rive. Then the last guy I spoke to said that it could be either the memory on my video card, the RAM, the Motherboard or the hard rives... basically anything on the PC could be bad. So this guy had me changing jumpers and switching the RAM, and finally switching hard rives. And now because of all this the computer won’t even turn on!!!!!!!! Now I told them that I would not send it back again for repair if no one can seem to figure out what was wrong and I really want my money back. They said well we can send an on site technician to fix it for me. This made me really mad because I had asked for on previously and was denied. I asked them if it was their policy to deny customers then to offer them what they were just denied. The tech support guy just started to stutter and said that rule change a week ago. Yeah sure it did... They told me a tech guy could be there by the end of the week on either of two days. They really weren’t sure when though. I told them I cant do that I have to work I already missed two days of college before waiting for the PC last time and cant do it again. So then the other option was they mail me new parts and while on the phone I would replace the broken ones. The only problem with that is that they need a credit card number to make sure I wont steal there broken parts and I don’t have one. Frustrated I said I would have to call them back. So today I called them and asked for my money back saying I'm fed up, their service is lousy and they cant seem to figure out the problem. Their response was "Sorry miss we can’t do that the 30-day money back guarantee has expired. Its at the bottom of the sales slip when you first purchased the PC. " AFTER ALMOST 6MONTHS OF HAVEING A COMPUTER THAT I CANT USE AND SENDING IT BACK 2 TIMES AND HAVE A COMPUTER RIGHT NOW INFRONT OF ME THAT DOSENT EVEN TURN ON THEY TOLD ME THEY CANT GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!!!! I then proceeded to tell them that I would bring legal action upon them. Their response was that they have many lawsuits already and that course of action will not help me....
So now I am in a fight to get my +$3000 back from this company who I have lost all faith in. I have a friend who I had warned about buy from Alienware but they did so anyway. They received a computer with a huge crack down the front of the case. The dual monitors he ordered had lines going across them like they had been smash with some blunt object. And when he ran any processor intensive games/programs the computer kept jamming up. I had another friend who had bought a laptop before me and the hard drive had to be replaced 2 times and it still doesn’t work right.
SO AGAIN TO ANYONE GOING TO BUY A MACHINE FROM ALIENWARE DONT!!!! YOU'LL HAVE NOTHING BUT HEART ACHE AND AN EMPTY WALLET!!!!!! THEY HAVE EARNED THE RECENT BAD REPUTATION THEY ARE GETTING.

Dude, you should have gotten a http://img.dell.com/images/global/brand/ui/logo.gif

I love that; short and to the point. Dell is simply the best, iplus you cld probably build ur own PC for a much cheaper price than that fancy Alienware crap.
Posted by: taco_fox
Hmm.. let's see. Overpriced hardware with a fugly case.. why would you consider buying from them in the first place?
Posted by: JBobe03
I was going to build my own but a friend who had a really good experience with alienware a year before i bought it said i shouls check it out and hes computer was awsome. now i feel dumb cuz i know its a scam. Is dell really good? warrenty wise would it be better to build my own or buy a prebuilt system?
Posted by: redwench
er...alienware is not a scam. i have no idea if their service is routinely this poor or not, but they are a legitimate business. youll see the same horror stories around about dell, compaq, hp, or other large merchants. it can be very difficult to diagnose some problems, particularly if they are intermittant or delayed. that you dont want to do further business with them is understandable, they sold you a lemon. but they didnt do it deliberately.
if youre willing to build your own, including the research it will take, youll be much happier in the long run than buying a prebuilt from anyone. dell would be ok if it wasnt for all the proprietary crap they put in your system.
Posted by: SKYHN
The only thing dell really has proprietary now is their cases and their cooling system(even so, its just a duct system). All their components are standard, everything is fully changeable, with the bios locked of course. They even use ATX PSUs.

Heh, one of the guys on my hall actually owns an Alienware laptop. He spent his entire summer earning's on it and it's been a pretty decent pain in the ass for him. Due to something going screwy he had to send it back to Alienware to get it fixed. It only took about two weeks over what they said it would, then when they shipped it, they sent it to his home address instead of his school one where he requested it. Since his parents didn't feel like spending the $20 or whatever to get it sent to him, he called up tech support and asked for them to give him a refund to his account or something to that extent to cover the shipping cost for their screwup. They said the only way they could pay for shipping is if his parents sent the system to them, then they'd ship it to him (and they'd pay his parent's shipping). So, his parents do it and it finally arrives at the campus mail center about two weeks after that.
He's had a few other problems with the system, but doesn't want to risk sending it back to them because he figures he won't get it back before the end of the semester.

They really should give us college students a break. I mean c'mon.
Posted by: Ack1027
Man JBobe3, you have my heartfelt sorrow. That is one of the worst computer horror stories I've ever heard. I really wish you will get your money back and this won't affect you from associating with computers in the future.

Alienware being a problem is only limited to a few cases, not in every single instance. From all I have heard of them, Alienwware has excellent technical support, and top of the line software.
Just having a person complain is no reason to give up on the product.
Posted by: destro
weel like i said i did have reservations in my gut about this product and i did call themand have a bit of an issue but i hate drama and so imma pass on it and this time yeah its cause of what i read it happens we are all bias every once in a while so this is my bias card bein played thts all but thanx for the comment

By the way AMD64s rule just if anyone is wondering. I have a 3400 and it rocks the socks of anu system to date that i have tried elsewhere.

Its ALWAYS best to build your own..........IF you feel confident enough to do so and realize how much time it will take to research & read, research & read, research & read.............
You get the idea. AND then still have the time to actually assemble & configure and install applications, and then configure the applications you install. Sounds easy.......BUT..........
Second best is to have one custom built for you by a reputable, Experienced, local who will be able to provide you with MUCH BETTER customer service! As well as a MUCH better computer for your $$$$
All the other BIG Names put out so many machines that you are a spec of sand on a beach. They don't put out lemons on purpose, but they put out soooo many machines that their bad ratio increases. And, usually, their customer service can't keep up.
GO CUSTOM!
Posted by: PhantomGamer
Just build your own comp....can't go wrong there
Posted by: Ocean
building is definately preferred.
though i would buy an AlienWare machine for that dual video card thing. at the least we know where all those jacked up prices went into developing
something useful
Posted by: sidefx52
Building your own system is a rewarding experience. It's good to have friends and/or other connections that can help you out if you get into a bind though.
Like FL techgirl said, putting in the time to research the best technology available, the best deals, and the best compromises in between the two is the way to go.
Dells are nice to buy if you know nothing about computers.
Posted by: C-Money
The two computers I own are both Gateway 2000. I have never had major problems with either of them. From my experience with this company, there computers are stable. The only complaint is that both were very exspensive.... $2000+
Posted by: Megatog615
Yea, building a computer can actually help you with problems, cus you learn where that card goes, where this plug goes, and stuff. I REALLY recommend building your own, since I've recently successfully (re)built two of my older ones(a pentium 90MHz based and a 486 based). I used to know nothing of where the plugs go and where the cards and drives go, and what they do, but now I know a lot thanks to building them. You SHOULD build your own because of the experiance of making a machine work. It's kinda like Big-Boy style Erector-Set if you know what I mean lol. And BTW Don't listen to them telling you to buy a Dell, yea they're cheap, but the hardware and software are cheaper! Who likes Intel Extreme Graphics?
Posted by: madman55
jboro03 i feel really bad for you. i cant believe they wont give you your money back, or at least replace the whole system. man, if i were you, i'd sue them for a new computer. and if that doesnt work, then spread the word that alienware is a big scam. and if you do get your money back, with $3000+, you could get a really nice dell pc. i've had an old dell thats 3 years old. and its still great( the only thing i need to do to it is give it more ram, 128 mb of ram isnt enough anymmore heh) so if i were you, get a dell, or a sony vaio, those are great too but pricey. i hope this helps you alot. and i wish you good luck and hope that you get ur money back from those scamming alienware people.
Posted by: Megatog615
Well I know now not to buy an alienware, I'll tell all my friends not to get an alienware computer if they're thinking of buying one.
Posted by: madman55
i forgot to say that theres a great deal on the sony vaio desktops. check em out.
Posted by: TheBends0
I've built several computers for myself and others. I can build the same computer as a dell (but w/ better brand parts.. and easier upgraded) for about $400 cheaper. I'm building a comp. for someone right now that was planning on getting a dell until I talked to her about it

I have a Sony VIAO (desktop), and things keep going wrong with it. There things are fixable, but shouldn't happen in the first place. Errors reading hard drives all of a sudden, PS2 ports going out - (happened 3 times now), standard drives stick and make noise, and an unstable power supply.
Like I said, all fixable things, but if you're going to buy a system, you want it to work hassle free.
I'd definitely say go with the custom built one.
Cheers!
Posted by: uh...ok
No system - prebuilt or self/custom-built - is going to ever truly be hassle-free. The difference in the matter is that if you built the computer yourself, if something messes up, you are the one in charge of fixing it, and you only have yourself to blame (and chances are, you're more prepared to fix a system that you built yourself). Thus you never have to go through the drama of dealing with the bureaucratic side of things - no tech support, no customer service, no sales office, no online forms...
I've seen Dells, HPs, Gateways, Toshibas, Sony's - name any major brand, even IBMs - fall over. I've seen equally as many self/custom-built computers fail. And each company has its share of tech support and customer service demons. Realize that any computer you buy or build could end up being faulty - and if you buy, keep an eye on your warranty policy. You should have asked for a brand new one when it didn't work out of the box the first time around - being within the 30-day limit gives you much more bargaining power... in fact, it's the only bargaining power you had.

A friend of mine this past summer bought an Alienware for around $2500, and the pc I am building is almost exact to his, for $1100. He hasnt had any problems out of his as of yet, and he is happy.
But he is still a possible $1400 short. :P

OKay....i made a thread earlier giving out excellent points betweenn building it youself and getting it built by another company...The Thread
If you are going to get it from a company....Dont get alienware...IT is just running into too many problems!!!!!
Here is my ranking(trust me):
1. Voodoopc.com tied with Overdrivepc.com
2.falconware
3.hypersonic
And so on
THESE ARE THE HIGH END PC-builders though...

Yeah, i don't think i'll ever buy a complete system. Upgrading and building is too easy these days, once you spend 15 minutes learning about it, you can change any part you want. I built my computer for about $500AU($350US) about a year ago with a good video card. Similar complete systems, without the video card still retail for close to $1000AU ($700US)
$US figures estimated

you got everything but the video card for free did you?

eBay. Radeon 9800 SE for $160AU. ($110US)

I will say Dell give you better support.
My friends say alienware should be so great.. But after reading this omg..
But finally my advice: You should buy the parts your self, its more fun to build up your own computer, and you know what you are doing, so if there are problems you know what it can be ( :

Ok everyone. I seriously need to be convinced not to get one. I really want an alienware
but the thing is the one i customised happens to be 7000 bucks. lol crazy right well i just got a toyota for my 17th birthday and plus i have money to spare. but is alienware really worth the 7 grand, i mean i dont want to waste it u no.... the one im getting in short is an alienware alx aurora

yahoo messenger:tornalien88 (yes both the same sn( (lol) i still want an alienware so talk me outa it!
Posted by: redwench
nope, not worth it. you could buy it as parts for 2k, 3k at the outside. and spend 200 bucks for a professional to put it together.
if you cant figure out a reasonable use for the extra 4k, send it to me.
Posted by: Ion Silverbolt
Yeah 7000$ is financial rape no matter how great the pc is.
Goto www.newegg.com and add all the same items to your cart and see what the total is. Big difference.
Posted by: quiksilver87
I agree with everyone over here. I was gonna buy a customized pc myself but i ended up builinding one with my cousin. It turned out to be about 2 grand...Check my specs...
If you are gonna get a customized pc dont ge alienware in my opinion!
Try overdrivepc or voodooo or falconware.....
Overdrivepc has the best techinal support EVER....they havent had 1 problem yet. Dont be fooled by how small the company is! Go to their website and check out how their pc's look! custom paintjob....Voodoo has the best looking ones though IMO...
7k though is just toooooo much...you can build 2 ****in pcs(3500$ from newegg) with that price! screw technical support!
Posted by: CambodiaBass
Get a Monarch computer...their fast and have awesome graphics and programming platforms for you Java and C++ lovers.
www.monarchcomputer.com
Posted by: quiksilver87
^^^exactly!! monarch is very good. go to resellerratings.com and check their ratings...They are excellent. That is where i was gonna buy my pc from. they only charge 50$ to build the pc! and their parts are as cheep as newegg. Ofcourse you will have to pay for a warranty and shipping...However, there is not much variety. Feel free to call them and tell them what you want!
Posted by: Boggy B
For that price you could buy a recent model Dual-processor Intel Xeon server with money to spare.
You wouldn't want to do that, i just thought it was an interesting sidenote.
If i had $7000 for PC equipment and eletronics, i'd get myself a reasonable projector, spend at least $1000 on a stereo, and make up the greatest media PC i could fathom. If i was over $5000 after all that, i'd be surprised, even in our feeble $AU denarii.
Although in reality, i'd never have that much money to waste, i'd probably be boring and put that money in the bank.

DUAL CPU's and HDD's what do u expect, programs in my experience always default to installing on the C: drive - probably not the case in your system??? - possible hyperthreading problems with programs that cant deal with it - build my own systems and never have problems apart from new Virus's - that type of system is really for experienced PC users - buy something simpler - and send me ur old system if its still shot !!!! - i'll pay the postage!!!
Posted by: EMU
I,ve sold 1000's of PC's in my career to Corporate, Govt and retail customers. Both name brand and built to spec. I haven't bought a complete system for myself since an Acer 386SX (with chipup) :-0
ALL brands, makes, types of PC's have the ability to fail. Otherwise this site wouldn't be here.
My advice: Large Corporate/Govt clients SHOULD buy name brand (for large installs) as they will get "down tools" on-site support from their vendor.
Small business users should align with a local PC integrator so they can get "down tools" support.
Families/students that are scared or technophobic about building their own PC should buy from a local shop that (at worst) can fix any probs (in shop) quickly. If they can't/won't build the machine you want then move on.
But seriously, if you have the money (and time) to build your own then DO IT. Generally, if a part is stuffed then you can return it for another (while under warranty) or, if its not under warranty due to age then you get an upgrade with little hassle and cost. And you learn HEAPS!!
I suggest you not get a good friend to build one as if it stuffs up then your friendship can (mostly) suffer. Better, have them show you how to build your own. You will save $ and get warm and fuzzy when it all works "sweet".
Lastly, i'm not against name brand, there are some gorgeous offerings out there but, the bigger/busier they get the more they have to spread their support. That seems (to me) the main reason for "bad" technical support issues. I was with one company that (due to good support and offerings) was growing 400% per year. Great for the companies profits but, how do you support ALL those clients with the same amount of support staff.
Anyways, whatever people decide remember, a pretty case does not necessarily a good machine make. (unless you built it).
Bring on the flames!!!! :-)
Posted by: Grantyt3
Wow, I thought they were good. I was thinking about buying one.
Posted by: TecH-
Wow im realy sry 4 u );. I hope you get your money back. If you still want a PC biuld it at www.newegg.com BEST BEST EBST serivce and CHEAPEST CHEAPEST prices.
p.s. they ship in 2 days (most of the time)

Alienware machines exist solely to placate the people who won't bat an eye at dropping ten grand on a beast of a machine with the looks to go with it.
They've been like that from near the beginning and aren't going to change anytime soon, why is everyone surprised and furious?
And if you pay very close attention you'll notice that all of your extra money is going into the highest of the end in the hardware department, whilst the rest of it gets sucked into the vacuum that is software, devices, and whichever flavor of case they're pawning off at the time.
Not that I'm trying to defend them or anything, I can waste that kind of money and I don't see myself buying one of their machines, but it has nothing to do with cost or support or the fact I could build a similar beast myself for less. I just don't like their psuedo customization, which is a whole different ballgame.
At any rate, my last machine was an alienware. I paid five grand for it, got the best of the best at the time and didn't feel a need to upgrade for almost four years, minus a video card here or a stick of ram there.
And I'm still using that monitor to this day.

>>Its ALWAYS best to build your own..........IF you feel confident enough to do so and realize how much time it will take to research & read, research & read, research & read.............You get the idea. AND then still have the time to actually assemble & configure and install applications, and then configure the applications you install. <<
Elsewhere I said how much I wanted to upgrade my Gateway pc (AMD Athlon 800 mhz, 28GB HD, 192 RAM). It would be a lot more cost effective to just get a whole new system. I love tinkering with pc's, whether mine or someone else's. If I run into a problem, I look online or question one of my computer geek friends. Outside of being more cost effective than buying from a company, building my own would be quite fulfilling. There's no other way to make it Your computer than picking the pieces and putting them together. Damn, I miss legos! Currently I'm just shopping around collecting information on the parts, getting recommendations, and doing some research on How To until I have the cash to actually purchase. I'm really looking forward to it.

I have to admit mr bleu...that is soo true! i just built my first pc with my cousin. And now all i want to do is build another one by myself! Just for the hell of it!!!!I was sooo interested in voodoopc and alienware and stuff...but now all i want to do is to build one myself! lol the funnest thing is to look around and get recommendations! I am now looking forward to overclocking! Just have an open mind about things! you can probably build 2 identical pc's for the price of one identical voodoopc or Alienware or whatever!
lol and no im not a geek....

Ah-men, TueurDelite, Ah-men!
Not only is it fun and adventurous, but you're your own customer. You get to customize the system to fit exactly to your needs and not go over or under them. I live for it.
Just the same, I don't think Dell will have what you're looking for. Dual processors and a Quadro? Thats major professional stuff requiring a non-professionally custom built computer .

umm...its funny how different forums have totally different opinions!
Try going to voodoopc.com or overdrivepc.com
They will have a totally different view to this! I was once there...and i believed in them! but now i TOTALLY CHANGED MY MIND....lol read my previous post

I'm just gonna add my 2 cents in and say this:
"DUDE, get a DELL!"
And that I've kept myself familiar with what works, like HP, my former Compaq comp. and my DELL comp., I remained somewhat ignorant of brands like "Alienware" machines. To get to the point, did they come into being in this world by a rip in the time-space continuum or are they simply another failed experiment of Microsoft's evil machinations? I've heard of them vaguely but am too lazy to do research.
AKA (Who or What's Alienware?)

See for yourself....www.alienware.com.
In my opinion, they are overpriced. Very overpriced. They do have a few hardware advancements that other companies do not have, but most of those you can do by just building your own.

Alienware support was the worst experience of my computer life. I bought one of their machines two months ago and it has never worked. I’ve spent countless hours with their incompentant staff on the phone. They sent a field tech out and he made the machine worse. I did every thing they ask me to and when I asked for my money back we had passed the magic thirty day limit. They are very clever. So i was stuck having done all they ask, with a very expensive broken machine.
Their solution? Send it to us and we’ll fix it and mail it back to you… this is not what I paid for. But I had no choice, so once again following their instructions… I just got a phone call that the case was broken in transport… and of course this will not be covered by their warrenty so now I’m two months in with a broken machine and a case that is broken and they won’t fix.
Their solution? “You can buy a new case from us” Again no choice. I hate alienware. They took my money and my time and unrepentantly screw me at every turn.
I will never do business with them again!
My advice… as soon as you see a single problem get your money back… do not do anything to help them or accomodate them… immediately get a refund. Immediately - they will do nothing to help you. They seem completely unconcerned with how horrible your experience is.
I have not heard a single appology from anyone of their staff. I can not stress how strongly you should avoid them at all cost.

wait a minute they do say over and over "we are very sorry about this"and this in not what happens.
its most likely from shipping...yeah right
had i have read all the info about Alienware i would have pasted them up.
but i was so stroked about man i'm getting a alienware.than when it came in a big black box i was like YEAH!!!!
but i never got to enjoy that trill because upon hooking it up it was screwed windows kept crashing and restarting over and over.
to make along story short i had to send it back and than got it back no better than when i shipped it in.
i sent it back for a full refund.
i used there credit card so no 15% restocking.
ALIENWARE SUCKS!!!!

I bought an alienware back in '99 and I still use that machine for other things. Nevermind the monitor is still alive and kicking.
Remember: The people who have problems will always complain the most, and generally speaking, the people that don't will never utter a word.

wise words, you must be a real bishop. do you like pie

Build it yourself and usually the worst that happens is that one component is broken and needs replacing and as you have put it together it's not too hard to figure out what it is. I've found the biggest pain with this is if the case is broken and you need to ship it back as they seem to treat cases like footballs and they're not padded well due to the initial large size of the boxes, after all you're shipping 95% air by volume.

Sure they say "sorry" but they are just reading from the procedure manual. If they were sorry they would have given me a refund. But they flatly denied me a refund over and over. Why? Because I had been working with them to fix the broken machine they sent me, and when they had made it even worse, and happened to run out of stupid things for me to do to this broken untested box, my thirty days were up. No consideration for how accomodating I had been. NO consideration for the hours and hours I had worked with them on this thing. Just a flat "no", it is now thirty four days and your only recourse is to send it into our wonderful repair facility where they will run tests they should have run in the first place!!!
I sent my box in... no choice. They call me a week after they receive it to communicate to me that the case is broken... and it happened during the shipping process. Of course I have to take their word for it. So now they tell me my machine that has only been a pain in the ass will now look like ass unless I cough up another $100 bucks!
So now my "new" machine will have been shipped all over, repaired by multiple people and then shipped back... is this really a "new" machine anymore, or did they just con me into paying top dollar for an ultimately refurbished machine?
I consider their treatment unethical, and potentially criminal.
I'm sure some people get a good machine and never have to deal with this deplorable corporate behavior, but now that I have - there is no way I can reinforce them. I will never buy another thing from them. They have treated me worse than any other company I have ever dealt with.
Never support Alienware!
Why? Because if you need it they will not support you.

back in those AW years they did build them right being they were a smaller co.
but now there main stream and you know they have to put them out fast and cut corners to keep up with demand.
i really wish i got the power house machine that i paid for( a high end gaming machine)
what i got was a POS machine that crashed all the time.
now after the unit being cancelled for close to 2 wks
i get a e-mail from AW saying my machine is fixed a 2nd time and there shipping it back to me.
but i just spoke to cust. service to get it right.and it is cancelled
they did replace the
MB,ram, vid cards and pross. on a new machine that they said was 200 point qc'ed and built right at the factory(who ever built & qc'ed my machine must have been drunk and blind)
so yes i think some do get good machines but i see more and more people getting subrate machines that out of the box not working, the last 10 months or so.
