There is a problem on a Compaq Presario 5000. The problem is that the computer sometimes turns on but hangs at the Compaq Screen (BIOS Startup Screen). Other times, the monitor would just stay black. On those two situation, if you press the Num Lock key, it won't turn on. But sometimes, it loads ok and begins to load Windows ME. After a few minutes of using the WinME, it freezes for no reason at all, the cursor stay stuck, keyboard won't respond. Tried safe mode in ME, but same situation occurs. Also, I already did a Flash BIOS to see if the problem was BIOS, but the problem still keeps going on.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Personally I'd check the motherboard for any busted or bulgeing capaciters. Also could be a power problem have you tried the compute on a different outlet?
Alsov post the complete specs of the system so we can get a better insite as to what hardware you have.

Well, it's a friend's PC that I'm fixing here. I checked it on 2 different outlets (with and without power surges) and still produce the same problem. I checked the motherboard (because I began to think it was a motherboard problem) a few days ago and I didn't see anything that was strange, but I'll check again. The specs are here below.
Computer Specs:
Compaq Presario 5000
700 MHz AMD Duron
192 MB RAM
20 GB HD
CD-ROM
8MB NVidia TNT2 Graphics
56K Modem
Model Year: 2000

er.....you have an old computer that doesnt even get to loading windows half the time. you have a dying/dead something or other. probably hard drive or motherboard. on a laptop, youll have to take it in for servicing.
