Win98 Shut Down
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ever since I started using Windows 98, on common occasion it would pause on the windows 98 logo screen at shutdown and stay that way until you manually turned your computer off.
I'm not looking to solve the problem (unless it can be solved); it doesn't really bother me (except for the fact that when it happens, i have to run scandisk on boot). I just want to know why. Has anybody got a clue? (if anyone still uses win98) <==That's so cool!

there is a shutdown hot fix 4 win98 at the update site... i would reapply that first b4 hitting anything else

Also if you're using nortons or any other anti virus, they can cause this because they scan for floppies on shut down,

Don't know about the antivirus. It's happened to me without it and besides. Floppies suck. So i disabled my drive.

Oh and i've reinstalled windows several times before (the type that only replaces old system files and settings but keeps user programs and settings).

that kind of reinstall is quick and dirty. very dirty.

I have win 98 and it does this to me as well. No anti-virus stuff though. I don;t mind it.
Just hit 'x' or any other key yo stop scan disk on boot, too.
You don't have viruses, so no need to check.

Thanks for all your help guys. I went to the windows update site like the first guy said and it says that it's due to the mapped drives you have. The more you have, the more often it will happen. Go to this article if you're interested: http://support.microsoft.com/suppor...s/Q260/0/67.ASP.
