Stupidity

I have just done something very stupid to the folder options of my XP Pro machine
wanting to make the dreary and boring existence of the system default end. so i downloaded a new set of icons and went about changing the major file types to look all fancy
somewhere in the mess the settings on the folders themselves got screwed up
at first when double clicked they only would open a search window
after a bit of fiddling i got them to open correctly BUT in a totally new window
and yes i have it set to open in the same window
and so after much screwing around i finally gave up and went seeking a higher power but since god has no techinal knowledge i came here
please help me
