How to Restore Old Floppy

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I found an old floppy from 09-1988. I would like to know if there is any way to reinstate the files. I cannot even see a list of files on the Floppy.

I have Windows XP Home.

Thank you for any help.

i dont know why youd want to access a 15 year old floppy, but ok.

youll need to use dos to read it. if the dos in xp wont do it, youll have to get a dos boot disk and boot into dos. of course, the program those files were created with no longer exists, so you might have trouble seeing the contents, even if you get access.

I think there was an old program called something like Spinrite.

It would read the sectors over and over trying to recover the data. I think it may still be available on Sunsite.

Thank you for the replies.

I know, it seems rather strange that I would want to access 15-year-old files, but the title of some of them peaked my curiosity. Also, it is a way to go down memory lane. Rather lame, right? hahaha

Well, again, thank you both for the replies and I am truly grateful.

If you, or anyone else, has any additional ideas, please let me know.

Best wishes,

Where is a good place to learn about DOS? I have played around with DOS before, but I never could get any file to open, regardless of its extension.

Thanks
