computer hanging

hi , i use windows xp pro. 2.4ghz, 80gb, 512 ram with gf4 n audigy1.my computer seems to be hanging whenever i access the net. as soon as network is enabled, whenver i double click n try to open a file, evn notepad, comuter hangs. but if i open the program first n then drag n dropthe file i wanna open, it works without hanging. i have tried screwring arnd in services etc. searched for viruses also. no use. this has been bugging me for a while now. please help.

we will start with the basics. even if youve already done them, it wont hurt you to do it again. do this off any network youre on, you dont need any more potential problems yet.

download and UPDATE this one: http://security.kolla.de
scandisk
defrag
disable ALL xp services you dont need to access the web
reboot

if at this point, it seems to work properly you can start reenabling services. if it doesnt work, post back
