Computer won't boot up

My computer wouldn't shut down, so my friend just pulled the plug. Now when I turn on my computer, the fans turn, I can open and close the CD, but the harddrive does not start (I can't hear it running and the drive light does not come on), and the monitor goes into the test mode. I have unplugged everything and plugged it back in, but it still does not work. HELP!!

well, i think your friend just bought you a new motherboard. however, it could be one of the other main components fried. test the power supply, motherboard, cpu, and ram. taking it into a shop to diagnose the culprit would be best if you dont have the experience or parts to switch them all out yourself.
