DSL MODEM = 5360 speedstream
3RD PARTY ROUTER = linksys
OS = Win XP
CONNECTION TYPE = PPPoE
NOTE = no problem with the dsl line and signal
MODEM LIGHTS STATUS = ALL GREEN
ERROR = 678
SCENARIO: A friend of mine hooked a router to his dsl modem so that he can share internet connection with his other computer. Unfortunately he messed up everything. I told him to make a direct connection between the dsl modem and one of his computer (with Win XP). Then, I told him to go to network connection so that we can use the XP connectoid. He then received error 678.
These are the ff troubleshooting steps that I made:
1. I reset the pc and the modem, unplugged all the cables and waited for 10 secs. After that I put everything back. Tried connecting, still no go: error 678.
2. Checked the NIC if working properly and if it is enabled = yes it is.
3. Checked TCP/IP settings if enabled = yes it is.
4. Deleted the connection and created a new one: still no go, same error
* Found out that LAN connection has red 'X' mark on it. I right-clicked: instead of ENABLE there's disabled so i gave it a shot I clicked on DISABLE and 'X' mark is gone but when we tried to connect it says Error 769, NIC was disabled. So I enabled the NIC, and I'm back to Error 678, LAN has 'X' mark again.
NOW WHAT ON EARTH IS HAPPENING HERE, I'm frustrated please help me?
