End of KaZaa (Sharman Networks)
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Within a few months KaZaa may run its final lap, In Australia a Federal Court is charging Sharman Networks (KaZaa) with mis-use, illegal distribution and violation of copyright over there KaZaa file sharing network. I was reading Netguide and saw an article, also KaZaa is trying to get accounts with paying costumers now, funny. But in all doubt theres one worse thing to come, NeoNapster, Imesh, Morpheus, BearShare, WinMX and so on will be the sheep to follow. The main reason why after all these years KaZaa are being sued is that they have stealthed themselves and were hard to find, eventually being tracked down to offices in Sydney waterfront, also i know personally that India has router incase for fail-safe back up, damn these lil bastards mean bussiness!

Do you have a link for this information? I'm curious how this plays out, not to mention there have been too many unconfirmed rumors about P2P programs.
Thanks!

Someone in my school was caught and arrested for using Kazaa. Or so i've heard. Try morpheus or limewire.

Well.. P2P network may carry viruses on them. When downloading Kazaa and the P2P, the virus will open. The virus isnt a dangerous one, but it can help the people who are trying to stop the distribution of Kazaa find you. So watch out when you download Kazaa.
Does this rule about kazaa also work in Canada?

Well, you'll notice you will end downloading KaZaa to install etc, but you'll get bullguard protection software, p2p networking installed, a hidden dialer, a corrupt registry maker and maybe more, thats all i know. With IMesh you get all of the above, but a Porn Dialer, either Swimsuit network or Global Porn online -it annoying and cant auto-dial. With Limewire less dialers but more temp net files which act as a start up file/s and then go through your registry, check out the software folder in registry and you'll weird values for File sharing networks. The list goes on with file sharing programs. I tend to use websites, as they display helpful info and include no software, just the file and you can scan, and use security features on it n all etc. Try download.com, mp3int.com, soundclick.com there legal but some have spyware and adware and malware included, but use Spybot, AdAware, ZoneAlarm, update virus definitions and use a firewall, download.com can be helpful in gettin trial demos

Heck i stopped using P2P last spring... maybe cuz my school's Firewal prevents Kazaa from working. Most ppl use Ares in the dorms ( we are still waiting for the school authorities to do something about that ). But in any case i prefer to download from websites like LanceTB11 said- u can scan and there is no software to install.
Pity about Kazaa though!

Noone answered my question. Does the law about people using Kazaa also have affect in Canada? or is it just in the States and other countries?

In Canada, the law states that if you are charged with a criminal violation in another country, you can be held and charged in Canada, under whatever roughly equivalent Canadian law exists.

According to this, it is legal. But it looks like it applies to file sharing from canadian peer to canadian peer and not from other countries.

Eh, unless you just leech and don't give back to the community you could try to use a program called Direct Connect In order for you to get anything you have to share a decent amount of "stuff". You can't just share your C drive and expect to get away with it. Scripts are usually running in each hub to keep leechers out. So if you think your going to leech with this program think again. Terabytes of info can be found in each hub alone, while there are like 100 hubs to chose from. Normally you can't connect to more than a handful at a time, but connecting to like 3-4 is more than enough. Some of the most difficult to find files are there.
The normal share limit is usually around 5gigs-20gigs. Some ppl have shares as large as 200-300gigs!! Modem users aren't entirely shunned away, but they aren't rejoiced either. This P2P is for patient ppl only though. You can get fast d/ls but most are under 100k. (At least in my experience)
Another option would be emule. That program is excellent. Just don't share any music files for both of these programs will list your ip. Just pick up the cds at BB before they hit the $13 mark. Most newer bands sell for like 9.99 when they first come out. I got think i got 4 cds for like 40 bucks. Granted 2 weren't that wonderful and 1 was an oldie. But getting 3 Days Grace for 9.99 ain't bad!! I got Metora for about 11-12 I think/w the DVD.
