You upload them onto your own web site/space and image-link to it...

Ewww no...Don't rice it! If you have a GSX AWD eclipse and it is a 5speed manual, mod the engine, and it will get some power. Anything else, do not touch

Ummm, you guys don't believe in trees?

Posted by: Tecil

Actually thats kind of funny. Boise is nicknamed the City of Trees.

I just built a house in a new neighborhood, so no one has any landscaping yet. I still have dirt for a backyard until I put a fence in and lay some grass.

Posted by: DemonBob

Acctually next month i'll have four if it works out well.

93 - 1.8 Engine - Turning into an show car all looks
90 - GSX AWD 2.0 Turbo <- Raceing car for the local DSM meets
93 - Talon 2.0 <--- Parts
94 - Talon 2.0 <--- Soon to be daily driver.

Posted by: SpecOpsHoov

If you're going to rice your car, Demon, I beg you to please do it correctly.

So many people drive what are pretty much ugly and loud lawnmowers that it's sickening. Breaks my heart....

Posted by: DemonBob

Hence the "something like this" in my post a min ago, lol. I dont wan't it eactly like that, deffently dont want that spoiler or that body kit, the hood maybe, or even the paint job. And some custom stuff I made

ultimate ricer onthe cheap (not really but whatever) 98' nissan 240sx with the s15 engine.might make a good sleeper.coolest japanese car has to be the Skyline

Posted by: Canis Lupus

If you're gonna rice it, start from the inside (performance), then work your way to the outside (styling) ... but keep it recognizable as a car

S15 Silvia engine is a redtop SR20DET. 240hp stock but strong stock internals so you can add boost and other power adders. 240s are cool, but becoming such an awful fad with the fact people in the states are recognizing drifting. GL if you try to get a JDM motor into a car here and try to pass emissions though.

Skylines are badass though, RB26DETT

And laggy follows my views, but whatever, everyone does their own thing, just don't be a dick/retard about the stuff, I hate those ppl.
I respect a car done cleanly over one w/ just tons of shit thrown on it....

Oh, and bob, for a daily driver, i'd look for something other than a DSM.. their reliablity is umm... questionable once they get a lil older.

thank god we have a car topic back

Posted by: DemonBob

Well, my 93 I have now with the 1.8 had right at 400000 miles before it blew a ring on #3 cylander, put a replacement JDM in it about three months ago. Runs like a champion now lol. So I say its pretty reliable, they were hard miles too.

The only problem I ever had on the care before it blew was it would throw an alternator belt ever 6 months.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that horse power is directly proportionate to ***** size.

ok hater! haha

bob, any specific reason you went for the JDM motor?

Posted by: Null Actor

I'm actually thinking of buying a car in the mean time till I can manage to swing an M3. Something more on the inexpensive side. I'm kind of leaning towards the Mazda 6 right now. It's a pretty slick looking car.

What I'd like to have:
http://home.planet.nl/~kiromiji/images/skycar/m150.jpg

Posted by: DemonBob

Well, I went for the JDM motor for 2 reasons,

1. I've heard some good things about them here lately.
2. It was way cheaper then rebuilding it. I would have had to have the heads rebuild and everything, which for a DSM is very expensive down here in La.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Bob, Yeah, i was just wondering why not a USDM swap?

Nova, The 6 is very nice. My dad bought a new car a year ago and I was pretty much the one picking them all out for him. It came down to the Accord and the 6. Both are very nice, he just opted for the Accord due to the fact that Honda has a better history as far as reliablity than Mazda and that it met his needs better. If looking for the more sporty looking go for the 6 though, I have only heard good about them as well. Do check out the Accord coupe though, I really like those.
My advice is if you are going for the 6cylinder though, if you aren't I'd suggest another car, The 4cyls are great in both cars, I just wouldn't say either is all that quick with a 4.

Also maybe check out the new Solaras, finally something that isn't completely conservative and sedate from Toyota heh...

The Mazda 6 is a very nice looking car, and I also like the Mazda 3. You could get it for about 14k USD (new).

Posted by: fishhead

weren't there problems with the recent m3's? I may be wrong but i think they were like crazy oil burners or cracking piston rings. I'm not sure so don't quote me on that.

Yeah, I'd definitely get the V6. I don't like the look of the new Accords, though a few years back they were nice. Also don't like the solara. I'd prefer to get a four door vehicle though. Partially for insurance cost reasons, and partially for the space.

Yeah, Null is still traumatized by the experience of riding in my car, hehe

Posted by: Null Actor

Yes.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Nova, Celicas... horribly small in the back seat, trust me, solara and accord coupes are not the same.

Tell me any specifics you are lookin for and i'll try to help ya out, personally ,i'm into sporty, so this is why coupes appeal to me moreso.
Just wonderin, what are you lookin for, price range, etc, if you are dealin with anyone todo w/ cars on this site i'd have to say it's good it's me

and again... celica's(new model) in my experience are horrible w/ space, don't hate on coupes

I don't know if this counts but I am promised a '71 Chevelle with 80% modded Elderbrock parts, refurbished interior, custom paint job...

It has what I believe I was told is a 392 Cubic Inch, 500+ horsepower engine in it with performance mods.

Basically, muscle car for me. I prefer the fast and the furious idea of a car, but this works.

Ouch? WHat happened? Did a tree decide to unroot itself and walk right in your path? I hate when that happens.

Posted by: Sarc

Actually, your not to far off, but the tree was a red '87 Porsche 944.

I was just heading home from work, and he jumped out in front of me.

Driver has a suspended license, was his brothers car, who didn't have insurance on the car.

Thank God I live in Oregon where they require all insurance policies to have Un-insured Motorist coverage, or else I would of been SOL.

Speaking of which, I don't know if it's something special about Oregon requiring the un-insured motorist coverage, but it's dirt cheap. I pay around $20 for it every 6 months.
I'd recommend it to anyone that has a car that's too old to make full comprehensive coverage worth the extra premium.
And here in Oregon at-least, it will cover up to $10,000 of repair or replacement if the car is worth it, minus the deductable, that for me, was $200.
Just make sure you get both Un-Insured Motorist, and Un-Insured Motorist Property Damage.

I'd rather see a muscle car pwn a craptastic Civic any day of the week.

BTW, I was supposed to get my uncle's '67 Mustang...until the insurance company toook that gift away from me. Bastards.

Its a pretty cool car just because its a Grand Prix and no one really expects it to have nuts. I have shamed a few new mustangs and LT1/Ls1 (less of these) Fbods in the car. Its losing its flavor though and Im ready to move on. Im so confuzzled though, I think I have my next car limited down to two cars if Im going with something new, and 2 cars if I go with something used.

New:

G35 Coupe
Evo

Used:

3000gt Vr4... 97 or newer
300Zx 95 or 96.

Gerb, very nice. How do you like driving the manual?

Nice, gerbilo...are those yoko ES100 tires?

Here's my baby, the only car that would fit my personality better would be a 1992 5.0 Mustang GT...black, of course.

Bix, yeah, I hope they will be as good as my old Falken Ziex ZE-502s... those were great in the dry atleast lol

i got a set of winter wheels/tires w/ this car so I don't have to worry abou the yokos in the snow hehe

Bob, it's grand fun especially w/ an 8k redline lol

the ones on it aren't exactly legal... it so bothers me, it's feet away but I can't drive it... this is terrible lol

Posted by: Bix VT

ooh...gorgeous.

I love my yoko ES100s (on my saturn) they aren't amazingly good in under 40 degree weather, but they rule in the warm. I actually beat an integra like yours once...it was silver though. Close race.

You should slap a cold air intake on that sucker, it'll give you a killer exhaust note as well as about 5hp.

Posted by: Gerbilo

yeah, i heard the yokos are warm weather only heh

and i'm guessing you beat an LS or GS integra

As for now, the short ram thats on there will work, Don't wanna worry about the CAI and getting hydrolocked or anything. For killer exhaust... if I ever get enough extra money(probably not, go car payments and tuition) maybe an Apex'i World Sport cat-back :-D

Posted by: Bix VT

Yeah...I think it was a GS, in fact. Still surprised me though.

For the cold air intake...they have this nice little fitting for some systems that prevents hydrolock. I forget how it works, but it's real nice. Personally, I'd get headers first...and work my way back. But that's just me.

Posted by: Bobaroo

CAI is the way to go, won't a bypass stop the hydrolock? Then a nice catback would be nice

Forced induction!!! gogog

Posted by: Bix VT

bypass, that's the word. Handy little tool.

Wish I had the $ for a CAI...

Posted by: The-AoD

I wish we had that pair of 944's we were glancing at Bix

Posted by: Bix VT

lol...beautiful car that. and so cheap these days.

Posted by: Gerbilo

nah, no mods for the integra for a while.

when I get it paid off maybe forced induction though

i'm pissed though, i wont be able to drive it for quite a while due to the fact the multiple banks are idiots and it's taking forever to get the title.

I had the civic plates on there for the first coupla days before I found out it was illegal... then i was informed. My parents are freakin bout that cause the civic plates are in their name. Plus if i get pulled over w/ them it's basically like I a. have a stolen car, b. have stolen plates.

My friend works at a shop that issues temp plates and can do registration. I might have him do it for me tomorrow, he can just sign off that he saw the title and just put the VIN and most likely no one will be the wiser.

i'll let y'all know

Posted by: DemonBob

Just bought a 1990 Eclipse GS because my tranny went out in my 93 RIP old friend you did well.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Got plates for the GS-R... yay!

88 cadillac deville

no pics, but its a pretty good lil' car.

Posted by: The-AoD

My best friend has a 1984 Sedan Deville, cream colored. Really sweet. 4.2L V8. Only 90,000 miles. One problem, the motor is popping through the motor. Other than that, it's still got that true cadillac feel.

Posted by: Gerbilo

the motor is popping thru the motor?

Posted by: Bix VT

I have to echo gerb here...wha? http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom.../Oogle_anim.gif

Posted by: AltronHGX

Not looking for anything fancy, but a nice car under $20,000 that would be good for a new driver.
I don't like SUVs or trucks.

Posted by: Bix VT

You more into speed, comfort or fuel economy?

Posted by: AltronHGX

Speed and comfort. Fuel Economy is probably not going to be a problem since I don't like huge, huge cars.

I like Volvos

Posted by: Bix VT

Hmm...Volvo for under 20k new is going to be hard. But speed and comfort...I'd suggest the Neon SRT-4. Very good bang for your buck. I personally don't like the styling, but it may appeal to you. You could also get a V6 Mustang, they run decently and are moderately comfortable. Although I'd highly reccomend anything from Toyota, they are super reliable. Avoid Hyundai and Kia. I'd also highly reccomend the SVT Focus, it's a fun little car.

Speed or comfort your #1 choice here?

Posted by: Gerbilo

I wouldn't recommend the Neon SRT-4 for comfort or for a new driver.

Also, are you looking for a new car only? or pre-owned also an option?

Give more info on what you are looking for.. but for a new driver with those reqs.. hrmm
For new cars, Civic SI, Acura RSX, Mazda 3, Scion tC(when it comes out, I love that car), Toyota Celica.

lemme know, i'll help ya out

Posted by: Bix VT

How could I have forgotton the Celica? They are amazing. Comfortable and fast, not to mention a supurb steering wheel...I can't put my finger on it but I just love the whole cockpit.

Posted by: Bix VT

Post pics of your car's interior!

The part of your car that you see the most...why do you like/dislike it?

Posted by: Gerbilo

Just hope you don't have to put anyone in the back seat of the celica! it's even small than my integras! haha

Civic SI is one of my favorite "cockpits" despite the weird shifter layout.

Posted by: Bix VT

Yeah I don't think I could ever get used to the shifter...my mom was looking at a Saturn Vue (yuck) but decided against it because of the way the stick was setup.

that's with a lil cleanin I did when I got it. It'll be even better when I get time

Posted by: Bix VT

I'm sorry...perhaps I should have used the term "Imperialism"?

At any rate my car's interior is very nice now that I just got a new CD player and speakers. Ooh! I have to take at least oen pic at night to show off my lights! hahaha

Take Laggy's advice and if you dont like the topic title- dont read the thread.

To keep on topic:

I dislike the fact that the display on the radio doesn't work, but that's getting replaced this month.

Everything else is fine. Comfortable seat and nice dash layout.

A mazda or toyota.

Posted by: AOTY2KB

Whatever the case I think if this keeps up, there ought to be a separate car fourm made.

Posted by: AOTY2KB

What about Kia's and Volkswagon's? BTW can't you get a BMW for 20k USD, I know you can pick one up for around 35kCDN brand spankin' new!

Posted by: SKYHN

Kia's breakdown a lot. Volkswagons are ok, but their overpriced.

Posted by: SpecOpsHoov

Please, I beg you, do not buy a Civic.

Toyotas are insane - my friend has an '88 (I think) Corolla with over 200,000 miles on it and it still runs. He's waiting for it to just die, but it refuses to.

Posted by: SKYHN

The japanese know how to make quality cars

Posted by: Gerbilo

Civic or corolla will run over 1,000,000 miles if you treat them right.

Kias are garbage, VWs... ehh. i've never been a fan, but the jettas ain't bad. BMWs are overpriced as well, plus GL on paying for repairs on them.

Let's keep mundane car topics centralized shall we Just because we allow you to go off topic this way doesn't mean you can abuse our good graces ...

as for thread hijackers ... maybe a week in the brig would help?

My everyday car is a 92 Sunbird but the link has my baby in it. Thats a 66 Ford Ranchero with a .060 over Mexican 302, GT-40P heads milled .030, and a mild cam. It has around 325hp and it turns alot of heads.

Posted by: Bix VT

Canis: could we make a small car forum here then? It's too confusing to have all the car posts in one thread...

Please?

Volvo S40!

2004 for mid 20's, so I am sure a 2003 would be great for you

He's looking for under 20k though...

Kind of limits the options a bit.

No ... lotsa car forums on the Internet already ... if your whole reason for going to OTS is to discuss cars, it seems there's some confusion there somewhere along the line

hey kewl i guess tis means we can hijack all them car threads if there's too many of em

lol my reason for coming to OTS is certainly not to discuss cars...it's to see if I can help people with thier problems they way people helped me. But I figure if I can maintain 3 or 4 car threads as well...I guess it's like taking a P4C 2.8 and making it run at 3.2...it just makes my day a little happier.

Unless you don't want to see me happy...

jk of course, I'm not really that distraught over it, but I had to protest.

Posted by: Gerbilo

No happy for bix! only sadness!! haha

Are your serious?!?

He has no many options with 20k

WRX, RSX etc

Posted by: Gerbilo

depends if he wants used or new, as well as what he is lookin for specifically

Posted by: Bix VT

I think he meant new...I think the best siggestion so far, (even though it was made by the one person in the world that wishes my life to be hell ) was a Celica. 180hp (GT-S) and the interior is soooo nice...

Posted by: Gerbilo

I said Celica first!

the GT-S is slow for what it is actually, not sure why.

Posted by: Bix VT

I don't get it either...should be rippin the street up. It's fast but not extremely so...

Posted by: Gerbilo

yeah, it should be an ITR killer with those specs, but acutally the GT-S is slower rated 0-60 than my car lol. My car is 7.1s the GT-S is 7.3.

Posted by: Bix VT

My Camry is 7.0

I'm thinking about getting a cold air intake and some spark plug wires and maybe a larger throttle body for my SC2...any suggestions?

Posted by: DemonBob

My eclipse is rated at 6.9 lol just looked it up. Thats not bad for a 1990 car, i'll try and post some pics of it this week. It's cleaaaaan.

Posted by: armystud0911

Yeah those eclipses were good, my uncle has a talon from that same year, turbo of course. his hit the mark at 6.3 it was about the fastest 4banger I'd ever been in. My dad got a ticket whle he was showing it to us when my uncle first got it.

8.0 is the fasted time a camry has ran ever I think... not including the new solaras

Posted by: The-AoD

My gutless cutlass is rated at 7.5 I hear, I don't doubt it either. Even with that, my dad's 4 banger ranger does better. Specially since after clipping second it's passed 60. It's not the exact truck gearing he wanted. It's geared way to high for him. But it does have acceleration. Go ford for not using thier own motor! lol Probably one of the few smaller fords I like at all.

I have however seen an old 70's ford F-150 go 0-60 in under 6. 4-Wheel drive on dirt. It's all rebuilt, and as for going fast, 70 is about top end, and when you're mud boggin` you don't need that much lol. Nice custom paint too, wish I had a picture of it.

Posted by: Gerbilo

hahaha, i'll beleive your cutlass and ranger when i see them.

Posted by: The-AoD

Well it's not bad to be honest. Always ditches cavaliers in a hurry

And of course, like every oldsmobile I've ridden in, after moving passed 20, hitting the gas causes a few seconds of wait while the tranny decides it's time to shift down to a proper gear. lol It's quite good from 0 up, but from say, 30 up, you gotta wait for the acceleration to kick in.

I'm not sure on the actual acceleration, but according to one of those lame car sites, 0-60 was 7.5.

Posted by: Bix VT

I got my data from Car and Driver. I have no reason to doubt it, but I'm going to do a 0-60 run sometime today...

Posted by: Gerbilo

I'll try my G-tech out on my car soon. I know when I had it in the Camry I ran 7.96s

Posted by: Bix VT

You have an auto though, right? That could make a big difference.

Posted by: Gerbilo

camry is auto ran 7.96s

the old civic was auto and acording to books wassss like 8.5-9.5 depedingd ton sorucess

nerw car is 7.0-7.2 de[mdogs pm sprce// pm stock parts.. i have upgraded tires nad upgrand indtake..

i didn't drive to nite i remind youi.. drinking and driving is for jackasses and chunts!

i didn't drive..

A quick 4 cylinder Ranger??

Posted by: Superfly3176

I dunno that 1.3 L in the mazda rotary looks kinda fun.

Posted by: Bix VT

The RX-8? I dunno...I'd be all for it if they offered a turbo version like they did with the RX-7, but as it stands...I'd buy a WRX first.

Posted by: Gerbilo

WRX is cheaper than an RX-8... which is a huge selling point IMO

I'm a huge fan of both cars... but if I had around 30k to spend on a car and we were lookin at something like this.. i'd get an EVO.... maybe an S2k

and again with the RX-8, they built the new motor for stability... the old turbo rotaries were horrible... those things would break down constantly...

Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]

i drive something i wouldnt post up here if i had to.... but i want a toyota supra.

Am I to assume you drive one of those Korean cars?

Gerb, I think out of all those cars I'd get an S2k first, then the EVO. Then STI then the RX-8...but I'd slap an aftermarket turbo on it.

Posted by: Superfly3176

I was aiming at the rx-7 8s are built to last though i guess.

Posted by: The-AoD

I've always wanted an Ferrari F50.... Those would be cool...

I still say though Bix, we need to get us a pair of 944's

Posted by: Gerbilo

Bang for the buck... the Ferrari 360 i'd take over the F50

Posted by: Gerbilo

Plus I give props to any car(non rotary) that can rev higher than mine

Posted by: Bix VT

You mean the S2K?

And AoD: I agree, if we can find a pair like that again...I'll take out the loan and buy em, you pay me back! (I can do that now, today I'm 18! w00t)

Posted by: Bix VT

Forgot about that one...oh man I saw a Countach yesterday...good thing my dad was driving or there would have been an accident.

Posted by: Gerbilo

haha, nice

i've seen like 1 Countach on the road, a few Diablos, and a buncha Murcielagos and Gallardos

Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]

actually i drive a 91 ford tempo... but i kinda been wanting a subaru imsprea also lately

Posted by: Bix VT

Gerb: you see Murcielagos a lot? I've never even seen ONE in person...

And Pepsi: you mean Impreza?

Posted by: Gerbilo

Yeah, actually driving i've seen prolly 3.... see them like everyday at the dealers right by my house. also seen it real upclose at the autoshow

Posted by: The-AoD

I don't like the murcielago all that much. Nor do I like lambs all that much either. They are nice and all, but it's just not my style. I'll go with a nice 944, just because I like the 944, and it appeals to me better.

I'd much rather have a 1943 Willies C4 Jeep, with the all time 4x4 with three on the tree. Those bastards would go ANYWHERE completely stock. The modern day version would be called a Hummer.. And not the damned chrome junker 2.. err wanna be hummer number 2.. Extended blazer framed Hummer 2, or whatever you want to call those acryllic pieces of crap.

Posted by: Bix VT

Grr...the H1 is the only real hummer...the H2 is just a status symbol of wannabe Arnolds.

Gerb: Oh, yeah I've seen them at dealers but never driving...which is the only way I would like to see them

Posted by: The-AoD

I still can't believe GM bought the rights to the Hummer, and built one of the worst second generation items ever. I mean.. The Hummer 2 isn't all that bad, but compared to the original, it's nothing. If you know anything about off road travel, you know the H2 isn't worth a damn. Just like 90% of the jeeps after chrysler bought them out. I was pretty pissed at GM after learning the truths about the H2. One thing that really pissed me off was the loss of triple redundant systems in most of the H1's inventory. The H2 is no better than a Grand Cherokee Lerado.. All looks, no ability.

I personally watched a hummer in action before. And those things can and will go everywhere. It made it anywhere the dunebuggies went. It really showed that `99 Dodge 3500 piece of crap who was boss.

Personally, in the off road department, I'm a very disgruntled person. My dad bought a 1978 Jeep CJ-7. Perfect driveline, motor was excellent, body needed some minor work and a paint job. It was supposed to be my 18th birthday present. We had to leave it down in Virginia, becuase it only had a top speed of 43mph in fourth gear. And driving it on the turnpikes to here would have been certain tickets for impeding traffic. We were going to have it hauled up here, but my aunt ended up selling it for all of $2,000 bucks. I was so hoping to paint her yellow, and having it for a nice ride around here. VEry digruntled. CJ-7's are widely known as the one of the best all-terrain vehicles out there. Along with the old C4 Willies, and the CJ-5 badger. And yes, I can't forget the original hummer. Having a wrangler, compared to an old CJ-7 is like having a playschool offroad kit or something. Not many things compared to the CJ-5's and CJ-7's. Ohh well, I'm happy with my current pimpso.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Hahaha, i got a nice video of an H2 offroading at the Badlands offroad park down in indiana... trying to make it thru a pass that all the jeeps were getting thru.. it was just too big.. then it snapped a tie rod hahaha

As for CJ-7s... yes... I know all about them

Here is Craig's that is currently going thru a rebuild

http://www.4thsequence.net/gerbilo/Jeep.JPG

Posted by: Bix VT

Dang. Big Jeep.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Gerb I can't believe you have kept this thing going!

You are smoking crack if you say that you would take a 360 over an f50. You get better customer service with a f50, and 360's are junk.... and do not deserve the Ferrari name plate.

Im thinking of going Honduh as well! I have driven a slew of cars, and so far only one car has kept my attention..

1. SRT-4 - Fast, fun, extremly cheap...
2. G35 Coupe - The interior is killing me, and the Navigation is a joke
3. WRX - Fast, fun, not worth its price tag if you ask me
4. STi - read above
5. Evo - definitely not what I am looking for in a car anymore
6. Audi S4 - Still a contender, but I want something new
7. 04 TL - Sweet ride Probably going to replace the POS GTP

Posted by: Gerbilo

the TL is über badass!!!

AK47's dad should be getting one soon if the Acura dealer isn't being jerks...

as far as the 360s vs F50.... bang for the buck.. 360 is a much better deal hehe...

it's like comparing a WRX and an NSX.... for the price... the WRX is a helluva deal IMO.... NSX is an all around better car though.. and you do pay for it...

and hell yes i've kept this thread going, you of all ppl should know I would :-D

Posted by: Bix VT

No way we'll let the only car thread we're allowed (facsists) die.

The TL is a nice car but it should be a REAR DRIVER. 270 hp all into the front wheels? what was Acura thinking??

Posted by: Spork Lover

If you want bang for the buck go for a motorcycle

For pure badass cars, you can't beat Ferrari's top of the line cars: f40, f50, and the enzo

Posted by: Bix VT

Don't forget the Ford GT...

Posted by: SpecOpsHoov

The Ford GT is damn nice, but I think I'd go with Ford's Mustang GTR any day of the week.

http://www.forddesktops.com/desktop...ncept_01_02.jpg
http://www.forddesktops.com/desktop...ncept_02_01.jpg

My legs go weak just looking at it. At the Javitz center I almost cried when I saw it.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Wow.... that car is entirely too busy....good thing its just a race car and a real street car. It's almost as bad as the damn Cobra R

The Ford GT is a sweet car. I was glad to see the old Ferrari killer resurrected. I hope that the car hits racing circuits again and lives up to it's heritage.

The C6 Z06 should be an interesting car to see...super car for the masses. The Corvette team reported having trouble hitting the 500hp mark, and that 485 is closer to what production models should actually get. 3000lb with 485hp, all for the price vicinity of 50-60k....sounds great...and will surely prove to be a performer on the track.

Posted by: Bix VT

I'm not so sure about that stang...I heard a rumor that it was only rated for 400hp.

Posted by: Gerbilo

that mustang is like someone shit rice all over it... I saw it a few weeks ago and did not agree...

the GT is badass as stated above

and as spork said... i'm waiting for the C6 Z06 :-D

Posted by: Bix VT

C6...more like the C5 1/2. They hardly changed it at all. I really wish they had updated more components...but then, I have always had respect for the Corvette anyway, regardless of the lack of change between the C4 and C6.

Posted by: SpecOpsHoov

Screw you guys.

Posted by: Gerbilo

as for the C6... it's as new compared to the C5 and the C5 was to the C4....

the C5 just never changed thru out it's gen.. the C4 did... from a 200hp POS to a 405hp beast

Posted by: Spork Lover

The styling isn't far from what the c5 is... but the actual components of the car have gone under major overhauls.
That Ls2 power plant is a beast....much better than the previous LS1. The drag coeffiecient is the most efficient of any GM design.
That car over all is 5 inches shorter, there is less over hang over both the front and rear wheels. The Car was also made narrower, all of this done without sacrificing what little storage was available.
Unsprung weight has been cut out from the car (lighter wheels).
As usual the cabin of the car is very driver oriented giving a cockpit feel
Composite (not pop up) head lights (my favorite new feature)
Complete suspension update (too bad it still has a rear leaf spring)
Chassis overall is more rigid and stiff (translates into better cornering)

Over all I think the Corvette Team met their goal, and stood true to their motto "Next time we'll make it faster, better, but cheaper (meaning less costly)" .

Posted by: Bix VT

I know the C6 is better in just about every way...I'm just saying it's not a huge change. btw, my favorite vettes are the C5 Z06 and the C4 ZR1.

edit: and oh yeah the old ones too...heck they're all sweet.

Posted by: Spork Lover

but it is a HUGE change The styling is not changed all that much, but everything else is......

I can't explain the lack of styling changes, but it has remained america's favorite sports car for over 50 years. Maybe it's because of the lack of styling changes? Just look at porsche, how long have they been going with that bug eyed look? They got away from it in the 80's, and then the early 90's they went right back to it. Then when the 996's came out they went away from it, and the next gen 911's are going to be going back to that bug eyed look. Maybe to appease the true porsche fanatic?

I can't wait to see the c6 hit the racing circuits, Im sure they will dominate true to their corvette heritage. The c4 and c5 dominated the racing circuits that they run in. Look at the Le Mans series, it had been sometime since an american in an GM race car won 24 hours Le Mans. Last year I went to 12 hours @ Sebring, and watched the C5-R's put the big hurt on everything in their class. Ferrari's (the crowd favorite), Saleen, TVR, Dodge....it was beautiful.

Posted by: Bix VT

It's really not that huge of a change...just some tweaking here and there.

Posted by: Gerbilo

why'd you steal my avatar?

Posted by: Bix VT

hahaha just to mess with you mang...

It's goin back.

Posted by: taco_fox

hmm

Posted by: Bix VT

Posted by: Gerbilo

is their a Z51 package out for the C6 this year?

Posted by: Bix VT

Z-51? I thought that was an offroad package they made for thier trucks...

still confused by taco...

Posted by: Spork Lover

Yup there is a z51 package for the vetter. I'm still reading up on what they are using for shocks, from what I understand so far they are electromagnetic controlled. I think it's the same components from the XLR, just aggressively tuned.

Posted by: AK47

Dont know what you consider huge, but go and read up about the new vette. Motortrend had a quote from a guy at GM saying the amount of parts carried over from the C5 could fit in a small box... somethin to that effect.

Like Spork said- the styling isn't a complete 180 away from the C4 and C5 design, but mechanicaly, it's supposed to be alot different and much improved.

Posted by: Gerbilo

what AK said is what I read as well, motor trend and road and track I think

Posted by: Bix VT

I have a subscrption the Road and Track as well as Car and Driver. So yeah, I've read up on it. When I say major change, I'm talking of a change like the one that took place with the Mustang between 1992 and 1995.

Posted by: Gerbilo

The mustang when it got rid of the foxbody in 94 was mostly cosmetic changes..

Posted by: Bix VT

I'm not talking about 93-94 differences, I said 93-95. 95 is when they introduced the 4.6 DOHC instead of the good ol' 5.0. They also changed many other things besides the engine...but ok, I suppose it wasn't the best example.

Posted by: Spork Lover

They just got rid of the Fox body...the mustang is still riding on the Fox chassis IIRC. The first all new mustang is the 05.

Bix....just out of wonder, since you say the new corvette isn't that radically different.... what changes would you have liked to see? Me.. I think that the styling changes needs to be more radical, like the changes from the current stang to the 05.

Posted by: Bix VT

I agree, I think the styling should have gone through a more dramatic change. Mostly what I was hoping they would do with the C6 would be a much smaller car (like the S2000), more power (like 500hp for the Z06) and a more affordable scaled-down version. Something with 275-300hp, and in the 20-25k range.

But hey, you can't have everything.

Posted by: Gerbilo

The 94 was the first year of the new body style for the mustang... the 96 was the first year for the modular V8... the 5.0 was a carry over for 94 and 95

Posted by: Spork Lover

The corvette has never been a small s2000-like car. Gm wouldn't go against it's winning formula.

What you really want is the stop gap between the GTO and the Vette. In steps two of GM's entrants into the small roadster market in the US. The first one is the Pontiac Solstice. The next car is the Lotus Elise, a very promising roadster contender. It's a car true to it's British roadster heritage, not much to the car at all except for an engine and it's chassis. No options, but insane handling. It's going to be powered by a 190hp Toyota engine. Most people laugh at that....I don't understand why though...the car weighs 1600lbs... giving it an insane power to weight ratio.

Posted by: Bix VT

Yeah the elise's engine is just the one from the Celica GT-S, but I hear it still does 0-60 in 4.9.

Gerb: if that's the case then why does my friend have a '95 GT with a 4.6? And it's not an engine transplant: there are several tags on the car that say it's a '95, and the manual reads it as a 4.6. Maybe he just got a fluke car?
