Sweet sassy molassy, friend of mine just bought some new speakers for his Camaro. Four 6.5" Inifinity Kappa Perfects, two 4" Infinity Kappa 42.5i along with a nice amp. Gonna help him install it on friday. Hes already got Dual 12" 400w RMS MTX Subs. Its as they say in the hood 'A bumpin ass system'.
Also a few weeks ago he got some very nice rims put on. Upcoming stuff: Huge dual exhaust system, window tinting and probably gonna change a few things on the engine for some more HP. Ill try and get pics.

Pics SKYHN!!
And the Infinity Kappa series is great stuff

Thus the 'sweet sassy molassy' He bought all the stuff on ebay, dirt cheap(cept for the amp). Practically half of what stores online or retail were selling them for. He may be doing a few other things in the next 6 months like getting some good shocks on it(lower the front and back) and change the brakes. Really needs to get a radar/laser detector though. Another friend of ours got a $187 ticket for loud music not too long ago, hes got like 250w rms subs. The cop that gave it to him is an ass though, he litterally has a list of cars in the city that have big systems in them and watches them like hawks.
One thing that kinda sucks is the foglights he ordered were cracked in the box, so those wont be going in for a while.
Posted by: Gerbilo
I'm getting more and more tempted to order my shit
H&R sport springs are the most likely, i haven't been able to find anything else w/ a drop that is even and not completely slammed.
-1.5" in the back and -1.75" in the front
gotta figure out what shocks though, KYB AGX is what my friend got but i'm thinking maybe koni yellows since they are adjustable, 3 levels of firmness

I havent had a good race in a while. When my buddy still had his 2000 lightning I was putting the big hurt on him on the streets, which is odd because his timeslips were roughly half a second better than mine. When I used to actively look for races I beat a couple of new GT's, and I even beat a WRX...from a stop .
Im ready to dump the GTP though, it's had a rough life and it's starting to show. Im torn on what to buy though. Every week there is a new flavor.....300ZTT, RX7, Supra TT, VR4, SRT-4, G35 Coupe, 04 TL, BiTurbo S4, and now Im swaying back to an Ellis Juan car. They have always appealed to me, and I think I may just buy one of those and get a bike at the same time.
Posted by: Gerbilo
lol, yeah, I once liked GTPs a long time ago, got over that though...
atleast you have good taste on the new car
a 300Z is nice, they are boats though, but upping the boost can help that
an RX-7 is even better, the problem is they are impossible to find and have a history of severe engine problems, you have to take much more care of them. From what I've been told by an owner on the subject of engine problems "it will be perfect to you as long as you are perfect to it"
the Supra TT is a gods car IMO One of my faves and you can do so much with them. The problem is that they are hard to find and when you do find them they are often much higher priced than bluebook would have them listed.
the VR-4 is nice like all the above, especially with the AWD, they do have reliablity problems though, Not sure if it is classified as a DSM or whether just the Stealth is... Oh well, not a bad car, but not my top choice of the above listed.
SRT-4....it's a neon..... but a fast as hell neon... I'm still undecided on this car, I dislike dodge cars, especially neons, but this one gives you so much bang for the buck i'd consider it myself... You will have to beef up the suspension/chassis considerably if you want to autox or anything though, I've heard they are very weak in that area.
G35, you are giving up some of the sportiness of the cars listed above, but you are definitely riding in style. It's a skyline's cousin
the TL... ask AK all about that, it's a damn nice car and pretty much the same aspect as the G35, you are losing some sportiness but gaining comfort and luxury
the S4.... mmmmm S4 hehe, has the same qualities as the above cars, but better, and you can make it a serious performer
yeah.. I got bored, and this is why i posted all this :-D
Posted by: Bobaroo
How about a 350z, pretty much a G35c, just a little sportier. Get the the TT kit for it, oh man how nice.
Posted by: Bix VT
Dude GET THE S4 NO QUESTION. If you've ever driven one, you'll know what I'm talking about. Plus it's the ultimate sleeper unless you find someone who really knows thier cars.
Posted by: Gerbilo
lol bob, I dunno if turboing an N/A car is what he wants, it will kill any warranty, reliablity, etc.
even at low boost you are going to have to deal with problems and is not a good idea if you put anywhere near high mileage on your car.
Posted by: Spork Lover
The 350 has a high compression V6, boosting it defeats the purpose, those two forces work against each other and is a great way to build a bomb.
Vr4's are considered DSMs.... Diamond Star Motors.... duh They are heavy, and the only real reliability problem they have is if you are rough with your shifting you can go through trannys pretty damn quick.
RX7's are great in stock form, but those wankels dont take to mods very well. The design of the engine is crap period. They squirt oil on a piece of metal to seal the intake on the CC. In a conventional engine there are valves that close the CC.
Supra's are cool cars, but for my purposes I have come to dislike them greatly. The engines have no balance of their power curve at all. They are all top end, and require big boost to get moving.
300ZX's are nice.. but I want something newer than a 96 car.
S4's are awesome, I have driven them, and I am friends with a Audi tuner, www.goapr.com , but those cars have their share of problems, and they leak boost like crazy.
I am quickly narrowing my list of cars. I either want a Ellis Juan car, or a 300zx TT..... those are the two flavors for this week.
Posted by: Gerbilo
eh, i'd stay away from the ZX... what the hell is the other car you are talking about??
Oh yeah, I did a 9006 to 9005 conversion for my car tonite... headlights...

Ellis Juan
LS1 car....Fbods and vettes!
Posted by: Bix VT
I still say S4.
But if you must buy a vette, I would reccomend this one.

1992 Eagle Talon TSI FWD TURBO 102,000 miles and counting....
2002 Mercury Mountaineer
2003 MB 230 Sedan

Double post, kind of? That's alright though, that's my dream car as well.
Posted by: Spork Lover
I want something to drive on the street not to die in.
S4 is an awesome car, but working on those cars is a nightmare. to change the turbos, which is a first for any serious modders, you have to pull the engine, and by the book thats over a 16 hour job. Maintenance costs for an Audi is ridiculous, and they dont have the greatest track record for reliability.
Posted by: Bix VT
Oh, well I figured since you were even considering an S4 you had money to burn...
Still, if you're looking for an LS1, Lingenfelter has some more...streetable kits that you can get. I'd really reccomend them, my uncle has had one for 5 years now and not one mechanical problem.
Posted by: bluebee74
What I drive:
1992 Eagle talon TSI Turbo. 102,000 and counting, with me for the past 10yrs not a single mayor problem.
2002 Mercury Mountaineer MPG! not the greatest!
2003 MB 230 Sedan.
What I would like to have....take a look!

Hmm, pics? Whats the difference between 9006 and 9005?
I don't really like the 300zx. My friend has a 1990 Bkack N/A with 56k on it, and I seriously hate it. Something about those cars, I am just not sure what
Posted by: Gerbilo
Well bob, hopefully this will answer your questions
My 9005 Conversion Writeup
Posted by: Bix VT
wow...all that just for brighter lights? I would have just gotten some aftermarket bulbs...
Posted by: Spork Lover
.... oops
Posted by: Gerbilo
They are aftermarket bulbs.... I'm getting 1700 lumens vs the stock 1000 lumens, and it's actually quite easy to do if yoiu know what you are doing. I'd say it was easily worth it.
if you mean HIDs, well, those are illegal to buy, illegal to have equipped, and are $400

I thought they were illegal if you have everything together and the projector so it sprays the light in a single line instead of spraying it everywhere.
All I know is that I put 9007 bulbs in my car, and I don't really like them, although mine give have an awesome blue tint they just seem to dull for me.
My next will have factory HID's, i love them!
Posted by: Gerbilo
I have projector lights, stock, they are halogen though...
HIDs on integras(and other cars not stock equipped) are illegal.
the modification that I have done is not illegal, and it's a decent mod...
still not a replacement for HID tho... stock lows are 1000lumens, my mod has 1700... HIDs have 3200... the 9005 conversion how ever is, as stated above, legal, and 10% the cost
dollar per lumen ratio this conversion is much cheaper
Posted by: Bix VT
hmm, I suppose if you don't have the money due to the fact that you're poor and your job pays jack and your hoo ha is small, then I guess the 9005s are better.
Posted by: AK47
why mod lights?
yours were bright

not my low beams. the brights are the blinders haha

Heh, they are normal lights, no projectors or halogens.
I have fog lights too, although only one is in right now
Posted by: The-AoD
I have a set of extra lights.. Don't consider them fog lights though...
I have this really wierd fascination with aiming for frogs hopping across the road after a rain.. So I consider them my frog lights. I'm going to get some aftermarket ones soon..
SUPAR FROG LIGHTS MUAHAHAH FROGS WONT STAND A CHANCE!!!
"splat... splat..." "BWAHAHAH"
Posted by: Gerbilo
I remember those fogs from when we had a cutlass... yeaah.....
Posted by: The-AoD
As long as I can see the frogs under my normal lights, it don't matter.
My gf calls me wierd for it.. I scare my friends with it.. I become the worst driver when chasing after frogs.. from immediate slamming of the throttle, to complete illegal lane changes... I go all out to hear that ohh so familiar "pop" when you hit a frog just right. LoL
Posted by: Bix VT
Eww man that's kind of sick. I'll make sure I never ride in your car with you driving.
Oh, btw, should I get green or red lights for in and under my car?
Posted by: Gerbilo
You gotta stick with a theme bix, what have you already? Personally Red looks better with black, green is played out....
not that I am supporting underbody neons, you ricer!
Posted by: Canis Lupus
omg rice thread
Posted by: The-AoD
RICE RICE RICE!!! Got rice bitch? HAHAH
I personally like the green theme inside my car. The entire lighting system for the interior is green. IF, and that's a really large IF, I ever put neons under my car, they'd be green.
Red and black look pimptastic, green and black aren't bad. What would be cool, is a two color patternized set, like red and yellow underneath with a pattern of strobing effect.
I saw some blue and purple on a dark blue cavalier, needless to say, it looked good, even though it was a pos car.
Posted by: Gerbilo
LOL @ Neons on cutlass
Posted by: Bobaroo
I like neons under cars
Blue under my car would look sexy.
But no! I do not support rice
Posted by: Gerbilo
thanks, I am however going to HIN in a coupla weeks, i'll get some pics of rice for all you closet ricers!! haha
Posted by: The-AoD
Hey Jim, I should spray paint it with some "Bling Bling in a can" gold spray paint, toss some teal lights underneath, then add a hydraulic lift kit under it, then finish it off with totally black tinted windows.
I think that would be "LOL @ Cutlass" enough. :P
I actually did find something I'd like to get for my car though.. Just need to find a totally thrashed 97-99 Malibu LS with the spoiler, and Ivory paint job. I'd gank the spoiler, then rip off the headlight mount assembly (if it wasn't broke). Which I found out today, the headlight assembly is a bit different, and allows for a further adjustment. I like my beams upward for the highs, and down the road for the dims.. Seems like other people don't like it much though..... :P
I'd also like to get a new set of shocks for it. Those "supar soft ride" shocks. And along with those, up the ground clearance by an inch or so with the springs. (Since I live in a "bad road" area).
And, of course.. I finally did it today.. I was driving up 213, on the hill. There's a small S-Bend with the banks in the turns that are PERFECT for driving. I went into the blind one almost 3/4 of the way in saw a car coming, and I was doin` 35. I cut back into my lane, ripped the wheel to pull the turn, then heard those coopers toss out the most impressive sounding squeel I've ever heard when tossing a corner like that. Didn't budge and inch either, wasn't tight, wasn't loose... Just perfect execution. On a turn that most people take at 20, while tossing a lane in the blink of an eye, making the corner that much sharper. Which, the turns together aren't 100 feet long. Needless to say, the girlfriend wasn't happy at all about it.
I also saw it again today.. I wish I had my camera.. Down in wellsville, going around the BP gas station (Thee knows where I'm talking about), I was heading towards Save-A-Lot. Bright f'in red, looks like BRAND NEW. Has the front end of a late 70's model, like 77-78 Porsche 935 Moby Dick, which was the "LeMans" version in it's day. Has the stock "frog" read end. Which, alot of people would say it's ugly as hell, but I think :OMG: LOOK~~~~~~~~~!!!!! I heard it shift and was in love immediately... LoL
I also caught a glimpse of something that was more... hilarious than anything. And old ford ranger, with the "Metal Outlay" of F O R D on the tailgate. Tailgat was smashed, really bad. And it looked as if it said "POR", where the D was totally a mess in a glob of twisted metal. It was funny, hard to make out, but that's what I got from it.
OHH!!! Also... HAHAHAHHA I forgot.. My brother is married to an english woman, who of course lives in england.. He's wanting to move over there permanetly and drive trucks over there. Now, he's got to study up on thier driving laws and regulations. There's two signs that REALLY caught our attention. The first one is "Elderly Crossing" Which had a picture of two old people, with one behind the other. It physically looked as if they were "doin` it doggystyle", which was QUITE hilarious... And of course, the other one physically drew tears to my eyes. Now, I want you to imagine it, so I'll describe it in sequence first.
Imagine a yeild sign, but with a right side up triangle. A couple inches of red on the outside, all white on the inside. Like a red border. Now.. Inside this sign, spelled perfectly, with no mistakes.. was...
FORD
OH MAN.. First thing that came to mind was.. "Slow moving FORD". . HAHAHHA
Anyways, come to ask his wife, she said it meant a small creek crossing, or small river crossing. Some type of water crossing, which makes sense.. But I mean, c'mon.. Slow moving ford signs would omg be so f'in funny... HAHAH
Posted by: Gerbilo
hahah monster truck cutlass is gonna be hella lame...
yeah, once I get my suspension shit done it should have oversteer LONG before it shows any understeer hehehe
Posted by: The-AoD
Well, I just want some more ground clearance, just incase, if you know what I mean. I'd rather be to high, then to low around here.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeah, i getcha, cause you live in BFE.... honestly thought, I couldn't own a car where you live, it'd just get fuced up and i'd be al lpiseed, i would love having a truck where you live tho :-D
i really wish i could have gotten kreggers cousin's truck
'90 F-150 w/ 5.0, 4wd front and rear lockers, had to sell it cause of his divorce, $1000
blue book was something lik $3k, to a truck guy that thing was worth waaay more

Welcome fireguy!
Hey gerb, if you want some real oversteer, get some 215s for the front and 195s for the back...plus it'll give you better accel LOL
Posted by: The-AoD
I still want an NSX.... heheh
Gerb, were you typing under the influence again?
Posted by: Gerbilo
Hey Fireguy! Get the bike, you'll have worlds of fun with it
Bix, yeah, I don't wanna die yet lol, but yeah, that's how drag setups work for Hondas
I won't be getting tons of oversteer w/ the suspension, i'm just saying that the understeer will be reduced so much that oversteer is more likely, and that's saying a lot w/ a FWD car...
Steve, yes, i was ****ed up, and I want an NSX too. I got those CDs for you, nice vid of a CTR and an NSX-R
Posted by: Null Actor
Found out on the weekend that a coworker bought a 2002 M3 a week ago. So not fair. Gonna have to get him to take me out for a spin though.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Nice, If I have the money at the time, after my GS-R gets probably blown up due to me, an M3 is definitely something I'd be looking for, and I'm not even a BMW fan
Posted by: Bix VT
M3s=awesome. Except the mid 90s ones where they had few too few horses. wtf for real.
As for fwd oversteer...my car already has that. It's wierd being in the middle of a drift and having to get ON the gas to straighten it out. It just feels wrong.
Posted by: Spork Lover
BMW's are pretty cool, but as far as kick ass German cars goes...... MB's rule! I haven't been in any of the new BMW's lately, but last BMW vs MB comparison I did, I preferred MB's.
M line of cars are fun to drive though, I drove a 2000 M5 and it was nice minus the awful driveline shake it at at 2000 rpms, awful cigarette smell, and slipping clutch.
Posted by: Null Actor
I bet that cigarette smell comes with all BMWs.
Posted by: Gerbilo
That's enough to get me to buy another car, the individual one not the brand...
last person that wanted to smoke in my car I made them hold their top half of the body out the window...
i'm fine w/ smokin, just not in my car hehe
Posted by: Bix VT
You smoke in my car you find another way home because as soon as I notice you're going to experience braking threshold followed by rapid expulsion from my vehicle.
Posted by: The-AoD
I watched a miracle today....
It was wierd as hell..
I kid you not, wal-mart parking lot is full of "gerbs so called closet ricers"..
This like, 96 civic or so, up against a newer (probably late 90's) crown vic. Those who know crown vics, know they got balls. The civic outran him, probably 1/8th of a mile...
I watched them take off up the entrance ramp to 11, well down.. The vic was right beside him..
Next thing, the civic was G O N E, left the vic in the dust.. Was aweful heart breaking. The only ford car I do respect, being pwn'd by a civic? WTF hehe
Posted by: Bix VT
That's what you call a sleeper. Unless the CV wasn't actually racing, which is a real probability.
Posted by: Spork Lover
No way.... those crown vics are heavy like trucks...... it's completely possible the civic could have left it standing still with nothing done to it.
Posted by: Bix VT
I doubt it very much. A Civic EX of that era, which is the performance model, does 60 in 9.1 seconds. I'm not sure of what the CV's numbers are, but I'd bet they're at least in the 8s.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Hey Steve, if the civic was similar to my old one's body style it was a 5th gen(92-95), it could have also been the 6th gen(96-00)
Was the civic a hatch, coupe, or saloon..ermm sedan?
If it was a 5th gen and a hatchback it could have been an SI, which had the same motor as my old civic, except in a much lighter car, D16Z6 1.6l SOHC VTEC 125hp 2200lbs, with a stick i'm guessing one could do 8.0 or so if the driver knew how to launch.
If it was a 6th gen and it was a coupe it could have been an SI as well, much heavier car(for a civic) but much ballsier. B16A3 1.6l DOHC VTEC 160hp.
The hatchbacks of all years can be made damn quick with the right work done, since they are so light. A 95 VX hatchback weighs 2000lbs... now the stock motor is economy geared so it has no power(93hp, but 45mpg), but drop the above mentioned B16A3 in there... 2000lbs and 160hp... that's about the same power:weight as a new stang GT
and yeah, like sporky said, crown vics are ****in land yachts...
Posted by: FireGuy
Ty Bix vt
Posted by: FireGuy
Gerbilo ...I'm working on getting that bike !!!
Posted by: The-AoD
It looked like a ghey hatch, that was stretched.. But it was a civic, that's for sure. Such a slender front end, then boom a hatch.. Kind of puts you in the thought of a newer accord.
Anyways, for those who don't know. http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/...dex.cfm/id/2032
And those are the 281's that they come stock with. I know you can have an option for the dual exaust, and 390 under the hood. Our local cops, when the first got one of thier cruisers, which is a vic, tested it in speed. But, a police cruiser isn't your every day average vic either. It did 0-60 in under 8. And she started shaking at above 130. Though, it was a DOHC 390, with quite a few "police only" modifications, if you get my drift.
The police use vic's for a reason. And I really actually do like them. For a land yacht, they don't do half bad.
Posted by: Null Actor
Police crown vics aren't stock by any means. What a cop version can do has no bearing on what the actual stock car does.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Steve,
was it an EG(5th gen 92-95)?

an EK(6th gen 96-00)?
http://www.skafia.com/myPix/SlowRedHybrid-972171058.jpg
or an EP(7th gen 02-)?

Posted by: The-AoD
THE UGLY RED ONE OMG ITS THAT ONE, but it was green.. and rustic looking.. lol
And, vics, even stock.. Show some quite impressive speeds, if you've ever been in one. I like them, kinda like the cadillac sedan deville, by ford. Nice, but still a ford. And, of course, one of the few cars I fit VERY comfortably into.
Posted by: Gerbilo
k, the red one is a 5g, so it could have been an SI or something.
Posted by: Bobaroo
5th gen would be the only civic I would buy, i love them
Posted by: Gerbilo
hehehe, own a civic from back before the rice craze started haha. Yeah, my old one was a 5g. Held up very nicely for it's age and was a damn good car

Okay Dodge....Put out a car called the Charger over 40 years ago. Now to follow in other car companies footsteps they plan to ruin the ultimate muscle car. The new charger (prototype) actually looks good, but its a 4 door.
http://www.musclecarclub.com/muscle...tml#comparison1
For all instensive purposes, chevrolet knows how to ruin cars. They should still put out cars with 454's i mean screw emissions.
http://www.theautochannel.com/F/new.../10/184335.html
Key word here is sporty "sedan" no two door as of yet. It will probably sell well, but it wont be the muscled 426 or 440 w/ a six pack charger I drool over. It needs 2 doors.
Besides that hatchbacks are nice. I wish I had a Rx-7 or an Integra Type-R. My friend has a 95 type-r real nice car. Civics are horribly overrated, they aren't that fast at stock, and the 4 door models have no rear room whatsoever.
My Aunt drives a Civic Hybrid, sure it gets about 45 mpg, but its not roomy at all. But my girlfriend has the best car ever a 1981 Mercury Grand Marquis. It goes up to 85 (or so she says) Its all rusted out, and is a big hunk of metal.
I saw a Impala Police cruiser the other day. I want to pull over a cop they are always speeding.
Posted by: The-AoD
Well, along with time, comes evolution. And car manufacturers follow (To a stringent point at least). The releasing of the "new" GTO, chrystler Crossfire, and a few other random cars here and there, still show there is a 2 door power car market, just not as "umphy" as 30-40 years ago. Just look at what happened to the nova in the 80's? It turned into a soapbox derby car. Or, something comparably long. lol
I'd definetly take that Mazda RX-7 that was at a pizza shop up in East Liverpool the other day. I believe it was a 96, with a BRIGHT yellow paint job. "Droolage".
Posted by: Spork Lover
Do you mean that the market is no as "Umphy", or that the cars are not as umphy?
Chevy Nova, blah.... they were the SRT-4's of their day. Cheap car, powerful engine.
I like how people say the muscle car era ended in the 70's and that the 60's was it's golden age. I like to think that history is repeating itself, cars nowadays are getting faster and more powerful all the time. They may not be like the muscle cars of yesteryear....but man do they ever put down some power......and most of them can turn in the twisties now!
Oh and just as an interesting bit of trivia...... did anyone realize that if you paired an engine from the late 60's to one today that makes the same claimed HP, that the one today is actually making somewhere around 15% more power? How is this possible? Well the reason is because today's cars are measured by Net Horsepower (with all engine accessories), and the ones before 1972 were measured by Gross Horsepower. This means that if you had a 1970 426 Hemi Cuda, you werent really packing 425HP by todays standards..... your had only 340hp....still an amazing number. Thjs helps better explain why all muscle cars werent in the 12's and why some muscle cars couldnt even break into the 13's. It also means that todays Z06 corvette makes a ground pounding 506 1960 HP, or that my Pontiac grocery getter makes 300 1960 HP.

They can't "Screw emissions" For a car to be legal in the US it has to pass smog. A car company also has to have an average for fuel economy and emissions from all the cars in their lineup, there is a separate average for trucks/suvs. Right now Chevy is also making motors that are more powerful than that 454 but get double the gas mileage and far superior emissions.

It won't ever be those motors again due to what was said above, no one likes getting 4mpg anymore, cept those ****ers that buy H2s lol.

Hell yeah hatchback ITRs are ****in Hype Rs though, so much markup, around here they are average of 40% over bluebook value.
and Civics aren't horribly overrated. Most aren't that fast stock, they aren't meant to be, they are economy cars. That is the same reason why they don't have any rear room, what's the point of an economy car that can fit 9 people? What has turned Civics into a huge market lately is the fact that you can buy one for all it's stock properties(economy, reliability, etc) or you can put a lil bit of money into them and you can be out running Mustang GTs.... and you are still more reliable and getting better gas mileage! You have to remember power to weight. GTs are 260hp and weigh what? 3200lbs or something? My friend has a lil ole CRX, slow ass POS right? Nah, for cheap it had a B16 motor dropped in. He cut a lil weight here and there. The car weighs about 1900lbs and makes around 170hp. That's a better power to weight ratio than the GT already, and he got bored and is buying nitro i think haha.
GO SPORK, for actually knowing that, so few people do hehe

I want a new dodge ram 1500. Yeah the one with the big V10 Viper engine in it that pulls 500Hp and has like 525ft/lb of torque. Because trucks are cool, makes me feel bigger than everyone else.
Posted by: Bix VT
You mean the Ram SRT-10? Because the 1500 only packs the 5.7 Hemi with 345hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. One reason I would never buy a Dodge truck with a Hemi: you can't get it in a stick. The car I really want from dodge: http://www.dodge.com/sprinter/index...ype=vehicleLink Oh yeah, that'll live up to it's name...
Bobaroo: I have green LEDs under my dash and seats, and my one performance mod: a K&N drop-in air filter! YAY!
Posted by: Superfly3176
No I mean the SRT-10 that packs the optional V-10 500 HP engine.
http://research.cars.com/go/crp/sum...=2004&myid=5070
Should say in the first paragraph before see more about it.
Posted by: Bix VT
http://www.dodge.com/vehicles.html?...ex&type=top_nav
Shows the SRT-10 and Ram 1500 as separate models. They use the same chassis, but they have completely different labels. I wouldn't call the SRT-10 a part of the 1500 line. It's not an extra performance trim, dodge is marketing it as a separate vehicle.

Buy a truck or a sports car, not both in the same package. anyways, New Lightnings > Ram

I think the fastest Civic at stock does 0-60 in like 6.8 secs and most are well over 7 secs. Nothing to fast about that. The other thing i like is people who put the VTEC stickers on their older civic, if your civic doesnt have VTEC, dont pretend it does.
Furthermore, Honda didnt invent VTEC its been around for years, even companies like Ford and Porsche have adopted it, Honda just mass produced it.
Finally, S2000's kick asphault, they romp.
Posted by: Gerbilo
6.8s is pretty fast compared to most of the cars on the road... 7such is pretty quick as well,....
it's also a CIVIC, not a performance car!
Honda, sir, did invent VTEC. They did not invent variable timing system. They brought the idea to the US and were the first to mass produce it as you said. Back in the early 90s they were out performing motors of the same size... the shit works, and you know that because everyone has a similar system now, VVT-i, MIVEC, etc etc...
Posted by: Gerbilo
what again is it that you drive? I forget
Posted by: Bix VT
6.8 ain't shabby. My Camry does 60 in 7 flat, and it's never lost a race. My SC2 is supposed to do 60 in 9.2...but I've run nose to nose up to 90 with a 7th gen Si hatch.
That reminds me...I'm driving down 295 in the left lane passing people at around 70, with a Saturn Vue behind me. After I'm done passing I move into the right lane, and he continues to speed up. We get up to 110 and then I look in my mirror...there's a gold caddy behind him! What a specticle we must have been: two Saturns and a 4 door Caddy screaming down the road at 110. Talk about random.
Posted by: Spork Lover
VTEC isn't a variable timing system ... its a variable valve timing system....and it's true it has been around forever.....it's an old racing technology. 6.8 seems fast for a civic....which model does that?
I like the way S2000's look, but Im not really a fan of the engine. Yes it has a high HP/L ratio, but there is a reason other car makes dont go the same route when powering their cars. Those numbers are peak and their power curve plain sucks. You have to beat the piss out of the engine to get an amount of respectable power out of it....otherwise you are just driving a sexxy civic. Speaking of S2000's.... I beat one at the strip. The cocky mofo driving it had 9000k on there and was telling me in staging to switch with someone else because there was no way I was keeping up with him. Hah... I showed him.
Posted by: Bix VT
9000k? as in kilometers?
Posted by: Spork Lover
Typo.... 9k REV is what it said if I remember correctly
Posted by: Bix VT
oh lol! he was holding his engine way up there? Don't tell me he popped his clutch like that...
Posted by: Gerbilo
Yeah, shutup for me forgetting to put in a word...
It would be the SI, 7g it would have to be since my car is quicker than a 6g and my car doesn't run 6.8.(oh noes, my car is slooowss... wtf u)
as far as the S2k, it's not meant to be a straight line car, not by a long shot. Road Racing or AutoX that car can destroy though. Handles in the same league as the Elise and Exige.
If you want straight line anyway you can go forceinduction with an S2k... muahahaha those things are beasts...
and BTW, I have seen an F20C1(S2k motor) swap into a civic hatchback lol.
Posted by: Bix VT
...fwd? I personally wouldn't want to handle a fwd with more than 225hp. It's hard enough to keep my Camry in line with only 200! Lol, when I go from my 124hp SC2 to the 200hp Camry with the grabby clutch, there's lots of chirping/squeeling. Unintentionally, of course!
Posted by: Spork Lover
Lol, and Im not making fun of your car. ITR's are pretty cool, with the right driver they have 14 flat potential as a stocker.
Nothing short of a full blown race car handles in the league of a Elise. The S2000 is a bloated pig compared to the Elise, I mean the Elise is only 1600-1800 (US Spec) lbs. The S2000 has over 1000lbs on it. Hey and I didnt choose to bring my s2000 to the track.... the moron did AutoX car or not....the S2000 needs to have a better engine, something with a power curve with characteristics that arent so peaky. I dont like forced induction on an S2000, High comression and boost just doesnt work.

A camry has that much power?
Posted by: Bix VT
'99 Camry V6. I think the official numbers were 198hp and 196tq. I just say 200hp because it's easier to type.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Yeah, I have a 95 camry and it has 194hp and 205tq
Bix, The Accord here is very interesting lol, when it hits gear.. wooo haha 240hp 212tq
and that F20C1 civic hatchback was converted to RWD btw
Posted by: Spork Lover
I've heard of that Civic. They had to convert it to RWD cause there was no way to transversely mount the S2k hampster wheel

unfortunately the shocks to go with them won't be here until tuesday or so

I saw something you'd all drool over.. I saw it on my way home from work, and boy was she PRETTY. Still had the stock logo's on it.
Chevelle SS, and those pipes.. and that sound.. 454 baby! It was sweet. That "odd off-tone yellowish-green" color, with the two black stripes up the body. Ohh man, was that thing slick looking. I swear it had like two inch wide tires though, must have been stock. I mean, my cutlass's tires are twice as wide! It was pretty sweet.
Also saw an El Camino SS today. Pretty decent condition, specially with that crate 400 smally under the hood. Looked nice with that wite with red stripes. I wouldn't mind having an old El.
Which reminds me.. A Z24 today... REALLY PISSED ME OFF. I was coming off an on-ramp, and this dick slowed down, and sped up, like on purpose so I couldn't get on the freeway. I finally hit about 4000rpm, and about 70mph, blew by him, then darted to the passing lane. Then, he decided to play cat/dog games with me down the highway, not letting me back into the driving lane. I had just been through there 5 minutes ago on the opposite side, and knew a secret. So, I popped up to about 75, then around this turn, I nailed the brakes leaving him about 70 or so mph, went behind him after I hit back down to 50. And boom, lights and sirens, got that god damned ***** from WV. I knew that cop was there, and if he wanted to play, I could play dirty. Serves him right. I hate when people screw around like that, just to be an ass. Ohh well, that ticket serves him right.

gerb, made in germany so you know they are great performers! Never met a german car I could race while being sure I could win...VWs excluded. Steve: that's freakin awesome! Whenever someone screws with me like that I do things a bit differently...I punch it down to 4th and go 100+. They never have the balls to keep up.
Posted by: Gerbilo
down to 4th? weak!! lol 3rd!!
everyone thinks i'm crazy when I do it, but doing like 70 and drop it down into 3rd puts it right into the powerband like 6k or so
Posted by: Spork Lover
Thats when you let the bees out right
Seriously though, at 70 a downshift to 3rd is about right in most cars..... just dont forget to rev match, and dont miss your gear.... that will ruin your day.... all you need is for your front end to lock up and end up in a ditch somewhere.
Posted by: The-AoD
Yeah, do that in a big truck, you'll be picking up the driveline with a vacuum.
Posted by: Gerbilo
haha, yeah, I rev match, if not it just slows you down like hell
Posted by: Bobaroo
Rev Matching
Posted by: Bix VT
You drive a stick, bobaroo?
And Gerb, you gotta remember that I cruise down the highway at around 75...and if I went to third at that speed I'd be over my redline. Not much of a point to that...4th is just right at 75 for my car. But yes, I definately rev match. Anyone here actually double-clutch for turns? I know you can kill your synchros if you don't but it takes too long for me...
Posted by: Bobaroo
i dunno what rev matchng and double clutching is...\
No, I drive an auto, but my dads old saturn SC2 sedan was manual and I drove that, so I can drive it
Posted by: Bix VT
Ok, well as long as you have a reference point then I can explain it to you. Rev matching is when you downshift and blip the throttle before you engage the lower gear so you don't lose any speed in the downshift. For example, is I'm going 65mph in 5th and some dude passes me on the right, I'd downshift to 3rd (65 in 5th= 2750rpm, 65 in 3rd= 6000rpm) so I'd put the clutch in, move the stick to third and then while still in neutral, put the revs up to 6k and then engage 3rd. Otherwise you end up with major engine braking, which really sucks.
Double clutching is basically the same thing, but using the clutch in such a way that it doesn't damage the synchros. Basically, it goes like this: (for the same scenario) I put the clutch in, shift to neutral, take the clutch out, spool the engine to 6k, put the clutch in, shift to 3rd, take the clutch out. It sounds hard here, but it's even harder in real life until you get the hang of it. Frankly I don't think it's worth it unless you do hardcore racing.
And by SC2 sedan you mean SL2, right?
Posted by: Bix VT
Oh, I almost forgot, I got my new brakes and lights and G-Tech in a couple days ago.
PICS!
The G-Tech is a lot smaller than I thought it would be...note the size of it in my hand.
And since you can only attatch 5 files at a time, I'll be making two posts.
Posted by: Bix VT
And now the brakes...
Posted by: Bobaroo
Yea, 1996 SL2
How much did the brakes cost you?
Nice rice with the lights
Posted by: Bix VT
My bill from Tirerack was $295, but if I'd bought from another website I could have spent only $175. That's for front rotors, and pads for all 4 wheels. The front pads were the most expensive at like $70 I think.
And thanks, I'm getting undercar LEDs to match. Right now I have blue but I'm trying to change the theme of my car over to green.
Posted by: Bobaroo
Undercar lights are illegal
Posted by: Bix VT
Only in certain states, and VA is one of them. BUT they're perfectly legal for display purposes. You can have them on as long as your car isn't moving or "in traffic" (ie, you can't turn them on at a red light and then turn them off when it turns green, but you can have them on when parked in a parking lot)
Ergo, I'm getting them. Can you say...
http://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/docs/2001/109-12/rice.jpg
Posted by: The-AoD
HAha
Double clutching can save alot of hassle. But, it takes longer until it's practiced to perfection. Specially, in a LARGE diesel. Not double clutching in one of those, if you are in the wrong situation, can mean totally mangling the shifting forks, and sending them swirling through the tranny.
In a car this is different, where synchronizers take control, and you don't have NEAR as much to worry about. The synchro's take care of the forks in most cases, but there's a time where you may just obliterate the whole assembly. But, you're not throwing 1200ft/lb's of torque at your forks.
Double clutching is definetly safer for the transmission, in any case, but not as necessary in a "4 wheeler" tranny, as some drivers considers a car.
Got rice bitch?
Nice pads and rotors man. Not bad lights either. If I ever got lights, I'd have to go with green as well. Next brake job, I might paint my calipers green to match my green theme inside my car. Underbody's would be lime to match. White + Green = badass.
OHH OHH GERB!!! HAha, I saw that crabcake civic again. The green with the "wannabe a driva" wing. It's sitting down town with a blown head. You can tell by the way it was running. Blew out steam from the ass. Funny as hell. Dumb kid.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeah man, the G-tech is tiny
K bix, yeah, my 3rd ends at like 95, so if i'm doin 70 or so I can put it into 3rd... in revs it would prolly be over your redline but not mine haha
yeah, you paid a lot for some of that shit... i'mma prolly end up getting the axis ultimate pads
95% the capability w/ 25% the cost
haha
Oh YEAH!!
UPS man came again today, I love that guy lately!
I wasn't home when he came, but my mom answered the door and he asked her "Should I just got ahead and put this all in the garage for you?" hahaha
check it out, installing it all with some help from my friend on Thurs, i'll for sure have some before and after pics.
shocks are 4 way adjustable, on the very top of the one you can see the lil notch(4 colors)
Posted by: Gerbilo
hahah, now someone has to beat this with their next UPS deliv.

Nice shocks! ...But why on earth did you buy BF Vietnam? And was that your G-Tech sitting on the shelf over your computer? lol
Don't worry Gerb, I'll have you beat soon.

yes, that was my Gtech

not if it's a Zx2!! hehehe
Posted by: Bix VT
Gerb: BF:V sucks a big one. BF1942 with Desert Combat mod is where it's at!
But anyway, on to my racing story...
I was on my way to go break in my new pads and rotors when I pull up next to one of these:
http://www.jpdirect.co.uk/images/ca...01prelude01.jpg
I decide he's probably going to try to race me. He does, and we go to 90. I'm ahead of him the entire time. I really need to install a video camera in my car so I can prove to you guys that I'm winning all these races...
Oh, and the new brakes are AWESOME. I went from 0-100-0-100-0 as fast as I possably could with 0 fade. Lots and LOTS of smoke, but 0 fade.
And also, the Loudon county parkway is great for drifting. All dirt except for a very thin layer of gravel on top. I was going around turns at 40 and drifting like mad without even touching the handbrake. Jim and Steve, you guys need to come down here some time so we can do all this crazy stuff together before I have to go off to college. Man that would be a blast. Maybe I'll take a friend out and have him record me drifting and then post it somewhere. Holy crap that was fun.
Bobaroo: I'm going to post a pic tomorrow of a car I spotted in my local VRE station that I think you'll like.
Posted by: The-AoD
I have to say, I drift nicely in the escort. Specially in SNOW. I'm talking 60 degree drifts.. Those are hella fun.
Posted by: Bobaroo
Nice prelude...To bad it wasn't the Vtec version, or else you would only see its back end
Posted by: The-AoD
Haha.. No kidding. I saw a nice older prelude a few days ago.. Nice condition for it's age. And it really looked "shweet".
Ohh yeah.. ZX2's aren't that bad now.. I saw one was it yesterday? It was sending some smoke signals.. Impressed me for being a ford.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeah, I don't really drift that often, and **** gravel, i'm not about to get my car all chipped up and dirty. I'll leave the driftin to those who can, RWD...
Doin it around here just isn't safe

Installing my new suspension, as you've seen above, i'll get some pics of it all....
When I get the ITR Rear sway and rear strut tower brace and rear tie bar my rear end should be solid as hell.... gonna be redonkulous lol.
I guess this is good though, buying suspension is much safer than if I were to drop money on major HP gains, cause you know how much trouble that can get you in haha
I've also decided forced induction probably isn't the way to go, especially since 220whp is attainable while N/A
Posted by: Bix VT
I'm not sure if it was the Vtec or not, I didn't look. But it had the same rims as Gerb's teggy, and it was silver. Nice car, I thought he was gonna waste me.
Posted by: Spork Lover
Drifting in a FWD car is something I never really understood. When you drift you typically lose traction from your driving wheels.....in a FWD your driving wheels just so happen to be your steering wheels.... go through a turn fast enough and you'll push right through the turn into a curb or something. Didnt you watch any of those videos? The SVT contour drifting through a turn and flipping his car after it started to push, the honda, the celica..... all drifting wannabes taking it up the pooper because they had to show off? Using a handbrake to make the rear end slide is equally mind numbing..... I dont want flat spots on my tires.
Posted by: Bix VT
You can drift in a fwd, you just can't use the gas to sustain it. All of my drifts are just because my car tends to get a bit loose sometimes. In the instance of the gravel/dirt, all I had to do was turn the wheel and my car would get loose. I never even tried the handbrake, I probably would have spun.
Oh yeah, and Gerb: that's one of the advantages of having a plastic car: gravel doesn't tear up the paint much.
Posted by: Gerbilo
ahaha, yeah, just wait til a big enough rock hits and your car shatters!
and the wheels on the lude are very similar, but not the same, if its the ones im thinkin of.
Posted by: Bix VT
They looked the same in my rear veiw mirror
Posted by: The-AoD
LMFAO!!!
And spork is totally correct there. There's a difference between actually "drifting" and being loose. When you start getting loose, you can go into a drift, but you can also screw around and make a drift on purpose. A tight running car is harder to drift, but much more sustainable. A loose car, is easier to drift, but harder to control. That's where alot of dirt racing teams have thier troubles. A loose car is one that ends up in a wall on the third turn, and a tight car is the one that "drifts up the track" in every turn. A looser setup will run faster in the turns, but take them with less stability, and a tight car won't keep as high as a speed in the turns, but be very stable. The problem is perfecting the two into a perfect balance to get the best times. I know what you're thinking "they don't turn left". Well, down in... whatever town south of here that has a dirt track, they turn both ways. My X-GF and me went to a race down there with her mom and dad. It was totally awesome. We got to hang in the pits and stuff, and talk to people. A guy there told me, and I remember this. "Dirt and asphalt, being too loose on either is a crash, and being tight is a slow speed. And he never got it perfect his whole 15 years trying. Open Modifieds are f'ing badass btw. Which reminds me, I want to go see those again. Alot of people think "Pro Stock" is what they are, but it's not true. An actual "pro stock" race consists of things like, chargers, monte's, velle's that are practically stock ran, but with some light modifications under the hood and drivetrain, but no body changes, or suspsension length/travel/wieght differences. Now, open modifieds are totally built scratch up. And garuntee'd, one of them would tear anyone up on the dirt. And you wouldn't believe how bad the tires get after one set of races.. OMG, it's worse than pavement racing.
That's it, I'm going to find out what that place was... I must go see them again!
Posted by: Gerbilo
I BORKED THE SHIT OUT OF MY CAR
now i'm pissed...
snapped a bolt in the rear lower control arm... gotta figure out how to get it out so i can put shit back together....
the same bolt on the other side is siezed bad, so gotta figure that out as well... grr...
on the plus side, the front end is completely installed.... and once these two bolts are fixed it twont take much time at all to get it all done...****adjlfaldfjasdlfkj pissed
Posted by: Gerbilo
OH, in the meantime i'm pimpin the yacht, i'll get pics tomorrow, it's ****in sweet.
Posted by: Bix VT
sorry there Jim, bad luck man...
Not to be outdone by you, I went out yesterday with my friend to go drifting and found out exactly how far my car can go before it loses traction and goes off the road. So I just now got back from the tire place. They fixed my ES100 so I could get the stupid little toy tire off the front end of my car. So don't try to drift unless you have plenty of road on either side. Because then you go off the road and you hit a rock which knocks the tire off of your rim, so you have to get into the trunk to get the puny little spare and then it starts raining, and then it starts raining really hard and then a cop stops to watch you and then he notices that your spare has like 15psi in it so he tells you how to get to the closest gas station and you follow his direction but then you end up at the local police station because he gave you directions there instead of the gas station and then you're driving around for 20 minutes looking for a gas station and when you finally find one you have to go back out in the pounding rain and put air in the tire and then you have to drive under the speed limit all the way home while keeping a 200mile following distance behind the car in front of you because your spare doesn't grip in the rain at ALL!
That's why you shouldn't drift without plenty of space on either side of the car.
Posted by: Bix VT
Ok, I jsut went out to take a pic of that car I promised Bobaroo but it wasn't there.
So I ended up taking pics of every nice car in the lot.
Posted by: Spork Lover
Woah, talk about dirt track racing? Thats something I havent done in for 3var!
I used to help setup my cousins late model. Geez do I ever know the meaning of loose and tight as well as, tacky, skate, push, dry, dusty, bite, quick change rear end, 4 link suspension, etc etc etc.... but the one term that took on a new meaning was mosquito.....

Got the bolt for my LCA.. .now I gotta find a drill powerful enough to drill the old one out.
hopefully it won't kill the bushing...
once this side is done... we get to work on the other side which is completely siezed
Oh yeah, here are the pics of the beast i'm driving around in the mean time... you can see the integra there too... front end sitting just a tad higher than it normallywill be... the shocks on level 1 seem like stock stiffness, when I put it to 4 it's stiff as hell, haha, badass
Posted by: Bix VT
Nice boat. I also like the loweredness of the teg, it looks pretty sweet.

anyone have a drill? Everyone I know is a moron or doesn't have one... and I don't really wanna drop $150 on a drill.
Posted by: The-AoD
I have a drill.. But I can't send it, cause, well, I use it too much. And it probably wouldn't help much. But go to autozone and see if they do that "loan-a-tool" deal. That'd be the best bet, and get a screw puller, so you can drill and pull it out.

All the new stuff on the desk
A Cheap lil fuel system upgrade. New low/high speed resistor for the Fuel pump, and a small boost to the voltage...means more fuel being pushed out by stock pump
Cheapest HP on the planet. $40 for 20 or more HP.
New plugs to compliment the extra boost. New feeler gauge for precise gapping.
New Ignition Coils. Delco makes better coils for the 3.8l than any aftermarket company.
I was thinking about cleaning my car, but Im still lazy.

Posted by: The-AoD
It's a bit that drills backwards to "lock" into a screw and just turn it out. Simple and effective.

Was driving a 1990 Subaru - great car, but old and no A/C in FL.
As of Thursday, driving a 2004 VW Jetta 1.8T 5 speed. No pics yet, will get some. It's a great car, thus far. Did a lot of research on this.
Posted by: Spork Lover
grrr.... spark plugs suck on my car. You have to unhook the top motor mounts, and then you have to put the car in neutral and roll the engine forward to get to the rear plugs. I have done it about 10 times and I always almost cut my finger off on the radiator fan guard...... this one hurts too!
Posted by: Gerbilo
steve, this bolt is mega hard core stuck in there, doesn't sound like what you are talking about would work
maybe it is threaded a lil tho and that's what is keeping it stuck...
yeah spork, GM v6s don't have a reputation of being easy to work on....
Posted by: Spork Lover
You need a tap. The tap is reverse threaded and will drill into the bolt itself. I would get the size of the bolt and then go to a parts store and ask for a ____ Tap (The name escapes me), or just explain your situation and they will give you the right tool. I beleive autozone has free rental of those tools.
Posted by: The-AoD
That's what I was talking about. The bit is a tapping bit reversed. It'll cut into the screw so far, then either start turning the bolt, or keep digging in.
You can buy them at our local wal mart, in a pack that says "Screw out" Drill bits. But, I'm not sure what use a 1/8" one would be... lol
Posted by: Gerbilo
I talked to some dudes at home depot, they mentioned something like that. I'm not sure if it would work since I dunno if it's threaded at all, and the splines on the bolt just turn the bushing. Their suggestion was penetrating spray(i got PB Blaster) and heat with pressure. So, torch it to heat it up a lil then use a pipe wrench to try to break the stud from the bushing. Most likely will kill the bushing but I can get another one of those.
if that doesn't work i'mma try the drill I guess. Probably give it a try tomorrow unless I have work which i probably do...
Posted by: Bix VT
Yeah just get an acetylene torch and melt it off. Or maybe a jackhammer with a chisel stuck on the end...
Posted by: Gerbilo
both wise ideas when working on suspension....
i'm trying to heat it just enough to expant the bushing so that the stud will break loose. I don't want to use excessive heat seeing how it's near the fuel tank... also it would be nice if i just heated the bushing as opposed to completely melting it.
Posted by: The-AoD
What kind of stud is it exactly?
If it's a non-threaded push-in stud, then you're best bet is to use a jack to lift the suspension to a point where it relieves some pressure on the stud, then a flat headed punching chisel, and a hammer should do the trick. If it doesn't, heating it up may spread the bushing a little, but if it's a pressured bushing, you'll probably have no luck with heat.
If it's a threaded stud, then heat and a screw-out drill bit should do the trick. The heat will cause the smaller spaces on the threaded area to spread a little, and cause ease in releasing the bolt.
You get me a picture, I'll figure a way to get it loose. We do alot of beating, and removing things at work. Try a king pin bushing out of a rather old steering assembly for a 1-ton truck. Totally rusted together. We got it out with an oxygen-sedaline torch, a big bolt, and a big hammer. Of course we welded the bolt to the bushing.
Just get me a picture, and I'll give you some ideas.
Posted by: armystud0911
What kind of torch are you using? if its just a propane torch it may not be nearly hot enough, I have had to use much hotter ones to get bolts loose in the past.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Alright steve,
this is the view of the stud from the front of the car, you can see the threaded portion stickin out for 2cm or so....
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/w...zMXk1NDE%3D.jpg
this is the view of the stud from the rear of the car, the side which the head was snapped off of.
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/w...zMXk1NDE%3D.jpg
We have tried a hammer/punch to knock it out with no luck, and yes the car was on stands at that time. My last effort using the jack is to apply pressure only to the strut fork, we had tried without pressure, and with pressure to the LCA with no luck, that bolt was going nowhere with full hammer force
Oh, and here is an image of the replacement bolt I have purchased, so how about 1" is threaded and 1 1/2" is splined?
Posted by: Bix VT

Wow Jim, you really did bork your car pretty bad. In all seriousness, I'd reccomend going somewhere that has a compressed air system and acetylene so you can warm it up and bang it loose. If that's not an option then I'd suggest taking it in to the shop and have them put that one shock in.
Posted by: Gerbilo
not taking it to a shop, even that 1 shock is $360
and it's not that bad, it's 1 bolt... no actual suspension components were broken....
Posted by: Spork Lover
Have you tried relieving pressure on that component... It looks like all you may have to do is get the car on jack stands, and then use a jack to relieve the pressure, by jacking up the lower control arm.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yup, tried that spork, next attempt is to try jacking up only the strut fork, separately from the LCA...
i guess i'mma give it a try tomorrow or something, I have work tonite so I can't really get started on anything, plus it's wet as hell out
Posted by: Bix VT
Good luck man.
Posted by: The-AoD
Alright. Now, is that bolt threaded into the LCA or the strut housing? Or is there a nut for the end? If there's a nut for the end, and the bolt doesn't have to be threaded into the LCA or strut housing, then banging it loose should be easy.
First, you don't need an acetylene torch to heat that up. A simple propane handheld would do the trick. You want to heat the bolt up more than the bushing it's in. If it's threaded, what are the splines for on the bolt? Are the stock bolts splined like that? What's the threaded end for? Does it thread into the bushing? Does it thread into a nut? The strut assembly?
If the threading is for a nut, then bang the shit loose out the way it would go in. Just back it out like you would normally do. If the threading is actually in the bushing, and the splines keep it from coming all the way through, you'll have to reverse it. There's only one or two ways to go about doing this.
First, and the best, is to get one of those screw out reverse tapping screw remover. You can buy them at Autozone, Wal-mart (Some), and most hardware depot's.
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/prod...0&bidsite=CRAFT
Something similar to that may work, or you may have to get an actual tapping bit to remove the bolt. Not absolutely sure, but worth a try either way.
The second idea, will take some patience, and willingness. First, only do this if the splines can be turned inside the bushing housing, and you're sure turning the bolt won't do any damage. If you don't have any dremel tools, you'll need one to pull this idea off.
Here's what you'll need.
1 Dremel with cutting disc
1 flathead screwdriver that is close to the diameter of the bolt
A good cotton rag
WD-40 or any good penetrating oil (PB blaster doesn't work as well, just to let you know) Gunk's liquid wrench is probably the best you can buy for this idea.
Nice set of VICE-Grip locking pliers
Some type of torch, preferably a handheld propane torch.
Now, a few hours before trying to remove the bolt, cut a straight slot down the middle of the bolt. Make it as deep as possible, and as close to the middle as possible. Make sure the head of the screw driver has ALOT of bolt to grip, or it will not work. After that is complete, spray the shit out of both sides of the bolt, front and back making sure to totally drench it. Make sure it's all covered. Let it sit for a couple hours.
Now, after the wait, take your screw driver, and try turning the bolt backwards. You want the bolt to come out as it was originally supposed to. If you cant do this by hand, try locking the vicegrips onto the screw driver and using them as a bit of leverage. Also, take the rag, and wrap it around the screwdriver and bolt where they are together, and hold your screwdriver in place with your hand. This will cause less chance of slipping, and less of a chance of you bending the bolt due to the screwdriver slipping out. Hopefully you can then turn the bolt. If not, then you'll have to heat the bolt up some, and try again. Mainly heating the bolt where the threads are at the strut fork housing to cause a little size difference. Try it again, and see if it turns. If it does turn, then keep turning it until you can't turn any more. Once you have enough room on the other side of the bolt, where the head broke off, then use the dremel to cut a flat groove on the bolt. To make two sides of the bolt flat, for better gripping with the vicegrip pliers. Once you've achieved that, lock the pliers on the bolt as TIGHT as humanly possible, and turn it out. You'll have better luck turning it from that side, and it should come right out.
In the event you can't get these steps to work, use two jacks to jack up the rear of the car (I believe you said this was the rear and the pictures look like it too, but better be safe than sorry). Use a jack on the LCA to lift the assembly slowly. Try moving the bolt at the same time. Move the jack from bottom to top, there should be a place where the bolt is relieved of some pressure. After you find that spot, you'll have a better chance at removing it.
Buy cutting the edge of the bolt, as for the pliers, saying you moved the bolt out some, this is what I mean you to make it look like.
._
(_)
So it has two flat portions for the pliers to grip.
Umn, what else... Thinking.. I'd believe that bolt is probably threaded right into one of the housings... But, it may not be.. If it's not threaded to any of the housings or forks, you'll have to beat the damned thing out. There's a secret to it as well. Beat it out the way it's supposed to come out. Heating up the end of the bolt where it comes out of the strut fork, is the best place to heat it. Since, if it's not threaded, it's probably a rust, or a pressure problem, and heat may cause it to come out easier. Try jacking the LCA by itself, and moving the lower side of the strut, where the forks connect. Once you find a loose spot, you should be in luck. If you have something that limits the travel on the LCA, you may have to remove that to find a loose spot. I can't tell by your pictures where/what would limit any travel, but I know my rear end has two stabilizers for the LCA's and it doesn't allow full movement of the LCA's when it's jacked up. To replace shocks/struts I'd have to take the stabilizer off. Maybe something limits the travel one your LCA? Try screwing with things. Either way, you have to get it out, and you don't want to pay a mechanic to COME remove it for you. That'll eat your paycheck quick.
Take the tire off, and get me some NICE pictures of the bolt, and the surrounding parts if you still have problems. I'll figure it out. I could get that out if I was seeing it, and actually physically doing it...
Posted by: Gerbilo
I'm not quoting b/c that would just take up too much room, hopefully you can understand what i'm saying if I merely reply
i'm replying in order that you posted your ideas/questions
We got the nut off the end of the bolt, it shouldn't be threaded thru the strut fork or the LCA bushing, it should be the splines as you can see on the replacement, but i'm thinking it might be threaded just a tad or something because the punches/hammer we used did NOTHING
Yes, propane torch, i know acetylene is overkill... As i said, the replacement i have only has threads at the far end, and the splines should be what is on contact with the bushing and strut. I'd think the stock bolt would be the same as the replacement, further evidence is that the same bolt on the front suspension is threaded for the bottom and splined the rest of the way...
again, it shouldn't be threaded thru the bushing, but i'm thinking that maybe 2-3 threads are overlapping into the bushing and holding it in, we have banged the hell out of it, to the point where we thought the hammer might break....
drilling/tapping i'mma try after i've done a few things, because that would require me buying multiple things that I don't really have and don't want to spend the money on.
the screw idea is a good one, but with the splines, the bolt wont turn, the whole bushing/bolt turns as one. I don't think the threads are thru the bushing anyway, i gotta see if they are thru the strut fork, if so, i might saw the fork which it is connected to away then drive the bolt out.
We have put pressure on the LCA, my next effort is going to be putting pressure on the strut fork only, separate from the LCA.
I'll try to get some pics when it's all jacked up and such.
I'mma try to get craig to take a look at it all and see what he thinks, but my next plan is to heat the bolt and put a bunch of pressure on it w/ a pipe wrench, merely to try to break it from the bushing on a side. I also have to take a closer look at it all.
i'll let ya know what's up, hopefully shithead craig isn't being retarded and sleepin

Ahh, jimbo.. That light was my fault. Since I disconnected the airbox to check for massive leaks, the sensor didn't pick anything up. The MAF/VAF sensor. Which, happened to trigger the ECU to bring out the code P0102, which is correct. And the light is gone, and everything is fine. I think my airbox is the problem with that noise though. It looks like the airbox isn't sealing perfectly. I may just silicon it shut perfectly.
Any ideas on making an airbox seat properly? It seems a little "warped" where the screws aren't able to set it.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Ideas? Cut your airbox off, attach a K&N cone at the end of it, BAM, homemade short ram intake...
you'll hear a much better whistle off that
Alright... STEVE! massive progress onmy car,... still not finished... almost
We got all the old shit out, that was the good part we used soooo much force haha(sledge, torch, grinder, 4000lbs pressure, etc), i'll tell ya on AIM
we got the new shit in but forgot a washer or something so the shocks aren't working properly, the shock is comin thru the mounts so the rear end is resting on springs alone.. HELLA BOUNCY so I just moved it into the garage and now it's on jackstands for the night.
i'll update you tomorrow
Posted by: Bix VT
PROGRESS! Nice, get everying set and then drive out here so I can test it out Jimbo!
Posted by: Gerbilo
ahahaha, my dad came out when the rear end was on springs w/o shocks... he pushed and he's like... "awfully soft, isn't that what the buick is for?"
then i instructed him to push on the front end(which is set to 4)
"WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT THAT?!?, you're crazy!"
ahaha
Posted by: The-AoD
hahah jimbo, sounds like fun. I actually have a stock K&N on order at autozone. Not a ram though.. I was thinking about it, but it wouldn't work with the positioning.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yes it would! rip the airbox off and that's where the cone will sit!
News from the GS-R... we broke a shock.. i dunno how...
it's not adjustable and there is movement in the whole top of the assembly so... it's useable.. but i'm getting it replaced, either on warranty or going and buyin a new one.
Yeah, i took the car out for a lil spin, the rattle drives me nuts but, as i said, it's completely driveable... the stock mudguards are gonna have to go though, they are less than an inch from the ground hahah
I have a picture here, it was taken before everything was completed but it gives you an idea of the drop until I get good pictures.. the car is dirty as hell too hah

Looks very good jimbo...
And, no, a ram air won't fit because of how the airbox is seated. The bottom plate can't be removed without removing half the electrical system up front. LoL. I don't feel like ripping it off for that. God damn my cutlass has so many fuses, I could probably run a GM manufacturing plant with my car... HaHa!
My K&N Should be here tuesday, and hopefully all goes well this week, and I don't have to fork out 70% of my paycheck because of poorly built fords..
Ahh shit, time for work.. I'll have to tell the tale later...

I did it.... The Turbo Dodge makes the mad booooost.
Pics coming soon.

Ok, don't call the Cutlass a buick ever again kthx. You'll make it run underpowered and drive 20mph under all speed limits, then my hair will turn gray... Or something...
V8 in my cutlass, hahahahahahah RIGHT There isn't enough room for this damned 3.1 alone.. But a 3.8 would be pimptastic. I wonder, ahh won't fit on my electronic transmission jazz. Ohh well, works for me I guess. Though, I did find my next car... LOL
1999 VW Jetta, like the one down in stuebenville today. Purple paste metallic pearlescent colored with a GOLD inlay, it was so badass. Almost all gold, until you walked up on it. Nice custom wing (it actually looked good), and it was lowered, and it had a nice set of I'd say 17's.

How much did it cost you?
Posted by: Gerbilo
niiiiice. You get it new? so you get the uprated one
When the GS-R is boostin or something we'll have to run one day
on a side note, I took my car out for more than 2 minutes for the first time last night... it's freakin awesome hahah. It definitely keeps you awake on the expressway haha.
Posted by: Spork Lover
20,500 and they washed my loan on the GTP...... they took a loss.
FMIC, and the Mopar Stage 1 should net some amazing gains. FMIC for the 3 or 4 vendors have shown 20 FWHP gains on a stock SRT-4, and the stage 1 is rated at 20 HP.
Posted by: Bobaroo
20k...nice
It looks good in red. I saw a red one in Queens yesterday, driving next to my moms astro and then he had some open space, and well I lost sight
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeah man, they are cheapo and there are TONS of big gain power adders available. Dodge made the whole thing cheap, they opted for cheaper less power producing parts to keep the price down, you can do just a lil bit and open them up.
Hey sporky, the 2004 comes w/ the LSD trans right? or are you gonna peg leg like a mofo haha
I can't imagine how bad it is for you in that car, my car gets a lot of wheel/front end hop. stupid FWD hehe

Yeah it comes with a Quaife from the factory.
Wheel hop is ridiculous.... Im placing an order for new motor mounts to fix that.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeaaah, then you just get front end hop lol.
i'm half tempted to do the same though, i'd like to pick up an LSD too. Integra Type Rs have them, but they have a different final drive built into that unit so... ohwell, maybe some other time.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Oh yes, also, how do you like the shifter? I've sat in one but never driven, the shifter seemed a lil weird, tall, like it would have long throws...
mine is good, good height My friend who has a GS-R has a Trust(GReddy in Japan) short throw shifter and plate.. it's rediculous, i'm not really a fan, i'll see if I can get a pic.
Posted by: Spork Lover
It's relatively tall... but the throws are pretty short. Everything is so close together, most of the time Im not sure if Im going into 3rd or 5th.... pretty flippin close.
At first I was pretty apprehensive about the seats, but they have grown on me, I love them d00ds.
Turbo Spoolin is sweeeet
Posted by: Bix VT
I love turbo spool. The sound will make a car guy quiver with pleasure.
Posted by: Gerbilo
get a nice BOV now
Posted by: Spork Lover
I have a BOV, it dumps everything back into the turbo intake so its quiet. Im not an attention whore so the loud external BOV doesnt appeal to me much, although the thought of a larger turbo for that spooling sound is very appealing!
