Yeah that'd be my first mod. Bigger turbo and intercooler. We may actually be getting one of those soon, my parents are probably going to give me the Saturn for graduation and buy the Mazdaspeed Miata.
Posted by: TheBends0
My dad wants a Miata b/c he thinks it would be fun to drive. But as long as he keeps 3 motercycles I don't think we'll be getting one. I don't like them too much anyway.
Posted by: Spork Lover
The mazda speed seems like a pretty nice car. I took a look at one when I drove the RXD-8, and believe it or not, it was priced better than the RX-8. It's definitely small though. You can literally only fit a briefcase in the trunk, you cant even fit a full set of golf clubs.
The turbos go whoooooooooooosh
Posted by: The-AoD
Well, it'd be nice to have a nice little 5 speed, with all those pretty interior lights it has. lol
The killer has to be the blue skull shifter knob that changes color according to what gear your in.
I went and looked at it today, I'd love it. It has a brand new clutch assembly, and it is turbo'd. She didn't know the exact stats on it, but she said her husband is selling it and buying a new BMW when he gets back next month. He's a truck driver, and comes home for about two weeks. And that was his driving car. Has 53,000 on the odometer, and is perfectly clean.. So nice, it's going to be gone quick, so I won't be able to get it. :\
Posted by: Bix VT
too bad.
Anyway Stevo, do you ever check your pms? How about just answering them, maybe like, SOON? Because I really need those DII keys.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Well, I was bored today so I went and took some pics of my car now that it's dropped
It might get just a touch lower as the springs settle and all that, but I'm really likin it so far
Whatcha think
Posted by: Bix VT
dude, your mudflaps are like, ON THE GROUND almost. Two thumbs waaaay up. http://www.headcharge.net/albums/hc...bs_up.thumb.jpg
Posted by: Gerbilo
ahahaha yeaah... if I turn hard enough they'll scrape.... I guess I need to go buy that ITR rear sway kit to further reduce body roll
Posted by: Bobaroo
Front and rear sway bar and a strut bar(?) gogogo!
Posted by: Gerbilo
???
I have a front and rear sway bar currently. The rear one however isn't all that beefy(14mm) so i'mma replace it with an ITR rear swaybar(23mm)
I have a front strut tower brace but not a rear, the rear doesn't do all that much so I haven't gotten bored and ordered one yet.

I got my first car yesterday. It's a '72 Mercedes Benz. I have no idea how to get my computer to recognize my HandyCam, so I can't get a pic up. Here's a pic I found of one on Google; just think that, only maroon. My Ride
edit: Oh yea, almost forgot, it's a 250 C
Posted by: Bobaroo
Thats PIMP
Posted by: Atlas4
It needs a checkup though. I put it in gear, and it almost immediately stalls out. It's beginning to piss me off. We think its the timing chain. Any thoughts, oh car people of OTS?
Posted by: Gerbilo
ummm... press the clutch pedal when you put it in gear! hehe,
raise your idle a lil bit(should be a screw on the carb) and give it a try.

Stock 04 SRT-4 destroys lightly modded 01 GT

<--click it
Posted by: Gerbilo
I don't like that wing on that thing... the blonde however... mmmm
Hey sporky, me and my friend went to run a few at Route 66 Dragway up here. There were a few SRT-4s. they were running about 13.7 or so.... one of them was being driven by the owner of Hahn Motorsports though, we talked to him a few. He was setting up a fuel map for his car.... He recently built a 9s all motor neon lol. He's got some crazy ass shit.
Posted by: Bix VT
13.7 stock? Not bad for 20k. I still wouldn't buy one though. It just seems to me like you could compare it to buying a VW Beetle and slapping 20psi of boost through it.
Posted by: The-AoD
LoL, beetles are cooler either way.
But, the old ones are still better for one reason. A T V. All terrain is right. Pump the shocks up, throw a few mods, with a shortened exaust, and booya, instant dunebuggy!
Posted by: Gerbilo
I don't like bugs...
Posted by: The-AoD
What do you like? heheh
We had the OLD beast running last night.. 1978 Ford F-150 with a 351 M-Block (modified to some peoples termonology)
It was badass, we drug a pine tree around for the fun of it, we only got stuck once, but that was because it wrapped around a tree. A truck we got for 50 bucks, put back together, and it runs decently. Awesome deal there. No worries, if it blows up, we junk it and get our money back haha.

Great thread on a 240sx sr20det build up
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1516760&page=1
Posted by: Gerbilo
hah, yeah, I was planning on doing an SR20DET 240 last year then figured I didn't feel like worrying about legalizing the car...
Posted by: Bix VT
I sure hope when he put the tranny back in the car it was a stick.
Posted by: Gerbilo
yeah... it would be a waste if not..
damn, i want a redtop SR20DET S14
Posted by: Spork Lover
13.7's is a pretty decent run, sounds like he doesnt have much invested in mods. At sea level alot of guys are barely breaking into the 13's in stock SRT-4's. With $600 alot of people on the SRT Forums are running low low 13's. These cars are awesome!
BTW.... another mustang bit the dust, and then a LT1 Camaro ate it too.
Posted by: Bix VT
but still...it's a NEON. Dodge should have made a new chassis just for that car. And made it not a neon.
Posted by: Spork Lover
You can say neon all you want.... its not going to make the car any slower!!! Saying it's just a Neon gives me more enjoyment, because thats what the mustang guys are saying when I pass them.
SRT-4 non-believers will eventually learn the awesomeness of the car. I used to rag on it relentlessly. I drove 1, then 2, and then 5...... and I learned to love it. Nothing inside reminds you of a neon. The Viper seats are very nice, the interior parts are from the Chrysler parts bin, the metallic trim around the center dash is a nice touch, the taught firm suspension is awesome.
The SRT-4 is the embodiment of the modern muscle car. Take a normal car and make it fast. I don't remember haters saying that Pontiac GTO's are just Pontiac Tempests. I dont remember people saying Grand Nationals are just Regals. I don't remember people saying the WRX is just an Impreza, or an EVO is just a Lancer. While these cars do have humble roots.... they fell FAR from their apple trees.
I guess I can turn the coin and say saturns are just a piece of tupperware , but I wont cause I know that Saturn makes nice cars, and that the ION Redline is an awesome performer as well. They will be tearing up the AUTO X scene more than the dragstrip.... the Turdbo Neon ownz in the straights, while the Stupidcharged Saturn/Chevy own in the twizties
BTW, whats wrong with the Neon Chassis? Its a stout lil platform and people who actually AutoX give them some respect because they hold up well for being little econoboxes. In 2002 at Impala 2K2 at Gateway, a Neon ACR coupe owned in the AutoX. It took down Vipers, Vettes, NSX's, S2k's, Impalas, Grand Prixs, a Supra, RX7, a few 944's.... the only thing that dethroned it was a seriously over powered Impala, 700hp to the wheels Twin Turbo beast. It was named Purpala, all that and it only beat it by a few hundreths. The Impala was a 10sec beast, while the ACR coupe ran a modest mid 13 1/4 mile.
Posted by: Gerbilo
I've heard from everyone that the neon chassis is terrible for anything but going in a straight line. flex flex flex is what I hear....
well, prove me wrong, make yours stiffer than my car and i'll get you a cookie haha... once I get my ITR swaybar in I should be able to 3 wheel on curbs
Posted by: Spork Lover
I've never understood the idea behind lifting the front wheel. 4 tires on the ground = better traction.
Obviously a stock Neon is not going to be as stiff as a Integra, but with the standard STB, sway bars, endlink bushing, coil overs bolt ons and you are set. The problem with the Neon isnt really chassis flex as much as body roll, even the SRT-4 suffers from it terribly, $1000 in suspension parts ensures that it rides nice and flat in corners though.
Posted by: Bix VT
I'm a believer in the SRT-4, I know it's fast, I know it's awesome. All I'm saying is, I don't like the look of the Neon. That's all. And you can go ahead and bash Saturn, I have NO respect for any of thier cars 98 and later. Especially since they dropped the SC series.
I would take one in a second, don't get me wrong. But I don't know if I could keep it. I couldn't live with myself driving a turbo Neon. Same as driving the new Beetle Turbo. I don't care if it does 0-60 in 4 flat and the 1/4 in the 11s and costs 15k, I ain't driving a VW.
I'd probably take the 20k and buy a 5k '92 stang. They run 0-60 in 6 flat (.1 sec slower than the SRT-4) and then I've got 12k for mods. If the SRT-4 fits your style, then go with it. It just doesn't fit mine. You sound quite pleased, and what matters in the end is not what I think, but what you, the person who ownes the car (and "owns" many late-model stangs as well ) thinks and feels about it.
Posted by: Spork Lover
*hugs*
Yeah its definitely not for everyone. The front end looks Im definitely not too wild about either, in that sense it does remind me too much of a Neon...... but they dont make a perfect car for me....so you give a little and get a little.
Posted by: Bix VT
...why the hug?
The perfect car for me went out of production in 1993. Not counting various Italian and German cars.
Posted by: Gerbilo
a foxbody?!
Posted by: Bix VT
Yes, Gerb. 1992 Mustang LX 5.0. Or GT. whatever. Doesn't matter anyway since it's going to have so much work done to it that the only stock parts it'll have will be the body and engine block.

Anyone know KYB's american headquarters are in Lombard, IL(10 mins from me) sooo strange

I'm starting to fear for your liver :/
Ok car freaks. Pretty soon I'm going to be purchasing a new auto. I need well suited for city driving, lots of stop and go. I could really care less about how stiff the suspension is, or how many gigawats of horsepower it has. Basically a very dependable, 2 door take me to work and cruise around town in circles like a moron on weekends car.
Cheapness is a plus with a strong emphasis on not being a piece of crap that I have to use liberal amounts of duct tape to hold together.
Last car was a 96 Intrepid, which I liked. If that helps. Really sucked when the engine asploded and leaked oil all over the apartment complexes new parking lot.
Posted by: Bix VT
I stongly reccomend either of these two cars:
Toyota Echo
Toyota Corolla
My family has owned several Toyotas and they have gone "the extra mile" so to speak. Our 1989 Corolla went 350k miles before it died.
The Echo is small on the outside, but seems HUGE on the inside. I sat in one last time we went to the dealers, it was unreal. I've driven the Corolla S, and my main complaint is the lack of side bolstering. But I guess if you're driving around town and commuting in it then that won't matter.
Basically, the two boil down to this: Echo = cheaper, smaller and slower, but better gas mileage. Corolla = a few thousand more, bigger and faster, (130hp vs 108hp) and slightly worse gas mileage.
Hope that helps.

I don't visit there anymore
And bobaroo, I don't really like that model year of stang much. The body style (IMHO) was just too curvy.
Posted by: Chaotic
Oh yeah, I'm 6' 6" , so leg room is a must. Do those have plenty of that?
Posted by: Spork Lover
I like style to a point.....but that demon inside of me forces me to like fast cars..... I can't help it... its like a disease.
I like the shape of the Fox Body mustangs....... but to be honest with you those tail lights that span the entire rear of the car kills me!
Posted by: Bix VT
hmm...from what I recall, the Echo was very roomy in every aspect, but I was only about 5'9" then. The corolla I drove at my current hieght of 6' and it was decent. You may want to test drive them yourself, the Corolla might be a bit of a squeeze.

And ugh the Echo is fugly.
How much are you willing to spend, new or used? Mazda 3's are very nice and you can get a brand new one for around 15k, not a bad deal at all.
Posted by: Gerbilo
I'll help you out on this Chaotic... but i've got to run right now, hit me up on AIM or something and we can work out some specifics.
oh,... and I have the same demon that sporky has
Posted by: Bix VT
Sporky: That's why I like the LX over the GT. The read end is nicer. And yes, that demon is teh bomb. Or teh nitrous. or whatever.
I don't visit there anymore because my mom pays for the cable and goes through everything with a fine-toothed comb. Can't wait till I get my own place.
Of course, you could always opt for a Korean built car, but then everyone would look down on you for the rest of your life much the same way we all look down on maverick. But then he makes up for it with his gf.
Posted by: Bobaroo
Haha your mom still does that
Hey! Korean built cars are actually being really really good, Hyundai is really impressive, maybe not so much with performance wise, but reliabiliy and warranty is awesome, although the Tib is not that bad. Oh and maybe I am saying this because I am getting a Santa Fe
Posted by: Bix VT
Yeah she does
Hyundai is decent, but Kia stoll blows. The only things Hyundai has going for them are cheap and warrenty. So as long as you don't mind looking like a poor college girl...
I'd keep the ZX2 if I were you.

I drive a 2000 Toyota Tundra, but i just bought my wife a new ride. She lets me drive it occasionally...
It's a 2004 Mazda RX-8
238 HP
6 speed
Titanium Gray
Very Nice.
Posted by: Bix VT
Kudos. The RX-8 is a very nice car, just waiting for upgrades. I think if they had made a twin turbo version making 350hp or so that it would be a serious contender.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Tundra + RX-8 = awesome duo!
Why are you getting a santa fe?! wtf ewww
Posted by: Hambones
It would be awsome to have 350 hp in a car that light...wait a sec...strike that, I'm pretty sure I'd KILL myself! It'd be too fast...if there is such a thing.
Posted by: Bix VT
I dunno...I have yet to experience "too fast". But then, the fastest cars I've driven have been a '66 Stang with a 289 and a WRX.
Posted by: Hambones
Ok, what's the fastest speed you've driven? Not riding as a passenger. How fast have you driven?
I've hit 145 in a supercharged MX-6. That was on the interstate with the Air conditioning off. I was racing a supra. Ate his lunch.

Money is. Its a nice Car. Leather, titanium trim, 5spd Auto with Triptonic, smooth ride, i actually love it
Posted by: Bix VT
Suit yourself.
I've gone 120 in my Saturn SC2. That's when the governer kicks in. I'm pretty sure if it hadn't I'd have been able to hit 125, maybe even 130.
Posted by: Gerbilo
120 in a camry, road started to turn and the car wasn't about to so I layed off, 123mph in my civic(it was struggling, and i didn't feel like hitting a truck so i layed off) and 125 or so in my GS-R(where 4th gear tops and I was too lazy to upshift..., plus i was on a farm road that wasn't very wide and not very flat....)
i try not to do that a lot cause I don't really feel like going to jail.
Posted by: Bix VT
I'd have to agree with the jail statement.
Posted by: Canis Lupus
I'm pretty sure I haven't found somewhere to go that I need to hurry that much but I guess one can never outgrow pissing contests, hehe
Posted by: Gerbilo
hah, the camry was just because, the civic was on a drive from ATL to CHI that I thought was taking too long, and the GS-R run was following my buddy to the track
Posted by: Bix VT
Hmm, my run was to see how fast my car could go, because I didn't believe a review online that said it topped out at 115.
Posted by: Gerbilo
what the **** is with people and their obsession to run into my car with their cars?! god, i hate ppl...
Posted by: Bix VT
Drunk or not? It's hard to tell...
But I agree, a few days ago I was driving through DC on I295, and some guy started pulling out right in front of me, at night, in the rain. I had to downshift to third and floor it to stay alive. Even then, I only missed both cars on either side of me by about 3 inches. And I know what you skeptics are thinking: why didn't you hit the brakes? I was going 55, down a hill, while turning to the left, and he was 50 ft in front of me. In the rain. You ever try going from 55 to 15 during a turn, downhill, and in the rain, in 50 feet? It doesn't work.
Posted by: Gerbilo
No, my car was parked in a lot at my friend's last night and when I returned to it this morning my bumper was all ****ed up. I'm honestly about to start kickin ppls side panels in just randomly b/c I feel they deserve it. This combined with my newly ****ed up front bumper is just fantastic.. i'm thinkin about getting them both replaced after the winter...

yeah.. ugg.. it just seems like damage is piling up... it's only a 4 year old car, after all this, it's in worse condition than my old civic when it comes to dents, dings, paint chips... the civic was 12 years old though....
Posted by: Canis Lupus
mine's just over 3 years old and only has a small dent the size of a nickel on the driver-side door ... luckily our apartment isn't near downtown LA or compton, otherwise there woulda been several key scratches and bootmarks on it already...
Posted by: Bix VT
Man...my Camry recently got it's front bumper jacked up too. Maybe in the future, cars will be made of neutronium. With some sort of anti-gravity dealy too.

Ugh, 300zx, i hate those. Worst ride ever in a car
Posted by: Bix VT
They shouldn't have made the doors come up to your ears either. Hard to rest your arm on the door with the windows down without looking like a complete idiot.
Lol, and you keep calling it a Z, I think it's hilarious.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Yeah, my car the seat is pretty damn low, but you can still put your arm on the window,... and if you don't wanna put it there the arm rest on the door is a good height
the problem with my car seems to be getting in and out since it's damn low lol.

Woop woop I am not dead!
Im still on vacation in NC, by Sunday my vacation will have added 3000 miles to my new SRT-4's poor poor odometer.
The Hurricane came saturday but didn't put a damper on things. Im in a military town, Jacksonville NC...right next to Camp Lejune. This town is full of the fastest cars around, i can't explain it...... it's a town of 30k people in the middle of the woods, and at almost every stop light there is a vette, 03/04 cobra, WRX/STi, one Evo or two.....and lots of other cars. What I dont see are any German cars.... meaning porsches or Audi's.
Well anywho the only things I have had a chance to run is a fox Body mustang GT, the guy said it just had exhaust, I pulled on it like it was standing still, and RX8... the guy weaved through traffic to get next to me..... and then at a 50 roll he took off... I waited a second and then followed and pulled on his 30k sports car by bus lengths. My absolute favorite kill happened about 1 1/2 hour ago... it was a turbo GSR. I pulled up next to the guy at a stoplight (he revved and I heard the BOV), and I didnt think he was going to bite so I puttered off the line, and then about 5 minutes later when we were on a straight on a state highway, he got next to me and downshifted....... I followed suit, and we took off at about a 60 roll.... I immediately pulled on him. I shut the car down at the top of 3rd.... and we came to another light. The guy looked like he wanted to race from a dig, but my GF was giving me a hard time, so I had to take my exit and go home. I was expecting to get walked by a heavily modded GSR... and I walked him.... I hope he wasnt toying with me and blowing my head up...either way it was fun.
Gerb, if you are part of a Teg forum where this story pops up, let me know...the guy seemed cool and I want to see if we can re match.

Hey sporky hah, nice
Yeah... I'll ask but most likely wont hear anything about it.. 90k members on Honda Tech and most don't look at everything.
a stock GS-R is a 15.5 car or so... your car is about 13.7 I think
your average GS-R-T is probably 14.5 or so. Small turbo and all they have done is enough to get boost. Find one w/ built internals and a bigger turbo w/ a decent tune... 12s cars easy.
any bigger turbo and you run into the scary ones... hehe
If I ever go FI we'll have to run, cept i'd do it as reliably as possible, sacrificing a lot of power doing so.
Posted by: Bix VT
You're such a wimp gerb. Reliability...psh. You want reliability, don't race. You want reliability, go buy a Toyota Camry or a Honda Civic...oh wait...you have had both.
You're officially a wuss.

ok saturn man.... haha
Nah.. when it comes to cars.. including boosting.. there are 3 things you want.. .but you can only get 2 of the 3...
cost
reliablity
speed
if I have a turbo it's going to need to be well tuned and such... so reliable.. which makes power... which is expensive.. thats why it's a long way off and why i wont just slap a shitty kit on there... i don't need my motor blowin out.

Yeah, riding shotgun in a car where the driver decides to race people is far from a good time.

So true, you don't want to destroy all your internals because they can't handle the turbo or the amount of boost your piushing. And forget kits, custom turbo setups are they way to go

Riding shotgun in a car where people decide to race is a good time...as long as you're not a girl. Nothing personal to your gender there AK. But I personally prefer to race alone. It makes my car at least 100lbs lighter.
Oh, and gerb: my Saturn is still unbeaten by any NA 4cyl I've raced. And a few V6s, although they were considerably heavier than me. And the biggest powertrain problem I've had in 90k miles was we had to replace the battery. And the car cost us about 14k when we bought it. hmm...
$14k.
Beats '04 Civic Si.
No mechanical problems in 90k miles.
Sounds like I have all 3 there Gerb...
Posted by: Gerbilo
the Si owner can't drive and/or the car was broken
Posted by: AK47
Hondas Dont Break
Posted by: Bix VT
None of the above, Gerb. He was undefeated until he raced me, we talked a bit afterwards. He seriously thought I was running a quiet turbo.
Posted by: Canis Lupus
hmmm, I'm also undefeated in races! then again, I never did when someone revs their engine next to mine, I sometimes tell em "hey man, nice engine sound!" then I play my Hanson CD to the max and head bang and shout MMM-BOP MMM-BOP and...
I'm kidding I guess I'm too old to go hunting and bragging about beating stock, non-modded cars I know I can beat, or avoiding cars I know I can't beat, or making excuses for cars that beat me that I thought I can beat... if you know what I mean
But it's fun to hear that almost everyone in this topic seems to be the best driver in their area, based on the stories ... keep those stories coming!
Posted by: Bix VT
Now, in all fairness, I said that I was unbeaten in my class. I.E. NA 4cyl cars. When I raced the Si, I had every intention of getting my fat white rear end handed to me on a platter. The outcome astonished both drivers.
Back to the subject of undefeated in my class, I have raced several people out of my class and lost. Bigtime. Those consisted of 2 modded 5.0 GT Mustangs, a C4 Corvette, and a WRX with aftermarket intake, exhaust, some head work and a stage 2 turbo kit. (the driver was a co-worker of mine, that's how I know the mods he had)
I don't go hunting, I don't avoid cars that I know will beat me (Such as the above mentioned Si, as well as an Integra) and I don't make excuses. "I missed that shift, blah blah..."
BTW Laggy, is your Celica GT a stick or a slushbox?
Posted by: Canis Lupus
it's an automatic I didn't buy it for the purpose of racing, I just liked how it looked, the curves were aggressive, the fuel efficiency was pretty darn nice, the interior was just right, and it's a Toyota I liked that isn't a corolla or a camry not to mention it handles pretty great for a light car...
Then again, if I lived in the Bay Area, maybe I would've gotten a manual tranny GTS, or saved up for some crappy-looking fast car with no style whatsoever but lots of horsies, or gotten a used Honda and splurged on some mods just to fit in with the crowd
The only time I ever raced was when I was trying to beat a deadline
Posted by: Bix VT
Somehow, I had a feeling it was an auto. Believe it or not, there have been times when I've wished I was driving an auto...although every one of them was when driving my Camry on 495/295 in heavy heavy traffic.
Other than that, manual is my preference. Faster, more reliable and better gas mileage.
I hear the Celica handles pretty well...perhaps I should hit my cousin up for a short drive in her GT-S
Used Honda + $ spent on mods = lame wannabe.
But then...I drive a Saturn. I can't exactly talk smack about civics, seeing as the same year ('97) Civic EX outclasses my Saturn by 3 hp...but then I'll kill him in the twisties.
Posted by: Bobaroo
My car has more HP then you
I will raise, when i go to the strip and have my WRX. No point to endanger my life or get pulled over on a street.
Posted by: Gerbilo
I never claimed to be the best driver nor did i claim my car was fast... it'll get pwned around here
A Civic SI of that year is a low 15s car...
and i'm pretty sure a stock civic could take a stock saturn in the turns, for a FWD econocar they are pretty good at it.
and used honda + mods = a large population... must everyone buy a new honda to mod it? or must they buy a different brand if they buy used? a 92 civic vx you can get for $2000... a H22A motor you can get for $2000, a simple turbo kit you can get for $2000.... now.. you have a car that cost you $6000, can put down an easy 300whp, and weighs 2200lbs.... cheap.. and fast... but its used and a honda...so therefore bad?
there are also shitloads of parts available... making it cheap and easy for minor modifications
whatever
Posted by: Bishop
but the APC remains
Posted by: Bix VT
Gerb, that $6k is assuming you put the engine and the turbo in yourself, and are still running the stock 185 tires. 300fwhp + 185s = uh oh.
And no, a stock Civic can't take my SC2 in the turns, I've driven both and raced both, my best friend had a '97 Civic EX and my car simply pwned him in the turns. And in the straights, but that's only because it's an auto.

Posted by: Bobaroo
Doesn't he have a blazer
O yea, civics are great to mod, they have so many after market parts and are so reliable, saturns, well umm, failed with the Ion Redline. American cars have to go back to muscle cars
Still FWD is not ment to be fast, quick yes, fast no

Okay... so I know that I'm going to get flamed for this next comment, but I just have to ask.
I drive a *ducks* Geo Metro. Ya, I know it's no sports car, with it's 3 cylinders and all... but it's a great little car. There are only two reasons I drive it:
1) I got it for $400 dollars because the previous owner didn't know how to check the error codes on (the check engine light was on), and it turns out that there's a little extra carbon build up in the block. Boo whoo. It took me 4 minutes to clean it out.
2) It gets an average of 51 miles to the gallon. I commute to school, and just do a lot of driving in general, so it's really nice.
Okay, here are my next questions...
The Geo has 12 inch rims. Yes, I said 12. I want to get something (rims, hubcaps, I don't know) that aren't totally retarded and look stupid. I don't really want to put bigger tires on the car, because then it'll eat away at the gas mileage. Anyone have some suggestions on what to do? I looked online for 12' rims, and found nothing.
Also, I'm going to put some new speakers in it, beacsue I'm planning on driving it into the ground (money is better spent elsewhere). I don't want to put a sub or an amp in it because, well... it's a Metro. But, I want some nice speakers that have a good bass output, so the music I listen to doesn't sound like it's coming out of a tin can. Any suggestions?
So here's a recap..
1) Any suggestions on rims/hubcaps?
2) Suggestions on speakers?
Thanks in advance.

"Yeah, riding shotgun in a car where the driver decides to race people is far from a good time.

That's awful presumptuous...... My girlfriend enjoys the thrill of racing as much as I do... she was giving me a hard time about beating up my new car....never before had it seen the redline. Besides, it was a desolate highway no innocent victims out there except for Deer.

Haha, Metros rock! My friend had a 90 w/ that same 3cyl... we would put 5 ppl in it and drive around a park as fast as possible playing "Nascar" It sounded like it was gonna explode and never really got above 40mph haha

You can find larger wheels easily(although 13" and 14" are gonna be a lil bit trickier) and cheap. If you do that you would just be putting low profile tires on the car. Your ride would be a little bit harsher depending on how big of a wheel and how small of a tire, but it would look significantly better. A larger heavier wheel would decrease accceleration and MPG... but not by much, and that is if you get a much heavier wheel, there are many lightweight wheels available as well. I'll go check out what I can find for you, maybe if you wanna hit me up on AIM, i'm just not sure what kind of style you are looking for.

An upgrade of speaker will help make the sound clearer and have a better quality, but to a limited extent. You will need a new headunit(as opposed to the stock) to boost power going to those speakers and to send out a clearer more powerful signal to them. It being a metro though, the stock speakers/sizers i'm guessing are rather weak. You will probably never get that much "bump" to them.
Posted by: BekZoR
Thanks for the info Gerb - I'll hit ya on AIM when I get home from work.
Also, I just bought this last Thursday for my vacation drive this past weekend.
I know it's not top of the line, but I don't think it's shit either.
Posted by: Bix VT
Ok, I would HIGHLY reccomend these speakers here. I bought those all around for my Saturn and they thump like 4 subs for the first week or two, then go down to thumping like 1-2 subs. And they're still thumpin' after all the abuse I've put them through (Ludacris loud enough that I can't hear the engine at 100mph and the windows down). I've had em for about 6 months now and I am in love with them.
Oh, and as for rims/hubs, there are some 14inch spinning hubcaps at WalMart for $20. They are plastic and have a fake chrome finsish, so you can have the complete Mexican look!
But seriously, 13 inchers and 14 inchers. Or, you could go really insane, and do something like this.
AK: that's about $253 more than I have in my account.
Posted by: Bobaroo
Do not get sony audio!! Overpriced crap!
Alpine or infinity and you will be happy.
Posted by: Bix VT
HEY NOW!
It's quality stuff. Mine are great. And at only $50 a pop, I think they are priced more than reasonable for the 250 watts they can put out.
Posted by: BekZoR
I actually purchased some Infinity speakers this evening.
The 4 inchers for the front at the 4002i model (105 max watts), and the 5 'n a quarters (135 max watts) for the back are the 5002i models. Though, that brings me to an interesting story...
My Metro only has two speakers. I ripped out all the fing plastic to find that there's just a big empty hole. And what makes me even more mad is that there is nothing to drill in to. The only metal that's there is the side panel! A screw would stick out to the exterior. Anyone else ever run into this? What should I attach these beasts?
I like the 13 inch'ers you linked to. 198 for 4? Am I reading that right? Also, do I have to do any modifications to the car, or can I just slap on the 13 inchers? Do I have to re-time the engine and all that jazz?
Thanks.
Posted by: Bix VT
You shouldn't have to re-time the engine, the most you would probably do would be to get the speedometer adjusted, since the larger wheels will change the ratio of the tire spinning to the driveshafts spinning...yada yada. If you want to avoid that, just get some low profile rubber. And the OE tires are 145s??? That's DANGEROUS.
They make 4 inch speakers? To go with the 12 inch rims, I guess...
If I were you, I'd just have them installed professionally at Best Buy. They'll charge you about $50, but you know that it's done right.
Posted by: BekZoR
I've decided to return the infinity speakers I bought. They were only 2 way. I don't plan to put a sub or anything in the car, so I'm gonna stick with the 3 way speakers. I think I'm going to head over to Best Buy tomorrow and see what they have for the Sony's. Also, the sony's are about 10 dollars less than what I paid for the infinitys (at Ultimate Electronics).
I may just have them do the install for the rear speakers... so thanks for bringing that up Bix. I usually like to do everything myself, but that's a lot of work and I haven't done it before.

Afraid I don't have $500 at the moment. All my money is going into upgrading my pc to an Athlon 64, and my job only pays $7.50 an hour.

The cool thing about FI is that you can turn down the boost to run pump gas.... where NA if you have the CR high enough you are forced to use race gas all the time. Thats why alot of guys prefer Turbos to NA.....

230HP 300HP
250Tq 300lbs
Dyno Pulls on the SRT-4 have been around 225-230 WHP stock. STi dyno pulls have been seeing 240-250 WHP stock. So you say 20 WHP difference at the most. That difference is diluted when you factor in the 400lb weight difference. So weight to power ratio the SRT-4 is superior. Over all power curve is pretty equal both engines are pretty torquey.
The one thing that the STi has that will edge out the SRT-4 is the AWD. That will allow the driver to get damn near all 300 of the ponies running at once... where I would have to feather it..... take that away and make it a rolling start, and then it's a drivers race.
Stock v Stock of course.
