The Car Thread :)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Gerbilo

from all that i've seen and heard... SRTs are more even with a WRX than an STi... they'll take a WRX but STi will own it. but as said, rolling start will take some away... but remember, weight makes a bigger difference at the launch than a 2nd gear pull or something.

STi in accl is slightly quicker than an Evo I think, when we were at the track the stock SRTs were running about 13.8-9 stock Evo ran 13.3

Posted by: Spork Lover

The Evo and the STi buy they low ET"s with AWD.... Ona roll a Evo or an STi won't be owning an SRT... it may edge it out and it will be close, but thats not owning I still say it goes to the better driver.

And weight is weight, it makes a difference when you are driving down the road, and it makes a difference at launch. The AWD will also be a leech on the STi and the Evo, it will dramatically reduce their top end. From a dig there is no way I could beat one, if they are launching right..... but from a role I would be a better race. I dunno if I could pull it off...but I would most certainly love to try.

Oh yeah, and a stock WRX from a dig is a match for the SRT...but on a roll it's not even a competiton.

Posted by: Bix VT

I agree, STi vs SRT-4 from a roll the better driver wins it.

Posted by: Gerbilo

meh.. i need to make my car beat both of them

Posted by: Gerbilo

Oh yeah, for boredom... here is a mean lookin 240sx from the other night

http://www.sweetcarz.com/~Gerbilo/H...26/DSCF0071.JPG

Posted by: Spork Lover

That is a ungodly huge Front mount!

Posted by: Gerbilo

lol, yeah, the front of that car looked so damn awesome.. but the back end looked like shit...

i guess it's a sleeper if you are approaching it at a light

Posted by: Gerbilo

bump for the best thread everar!!!

sporky, my best friend got to drive an 04 SRT-4 today.. his coworker just bought it... he was very impressed and said it was the fastest car he's ever driven... he also only took it up/down the street

i had to explain to him what the car was though lol.. the stupid bastard that bought it thought it was AWD... i was like "no.... it's FWD w/ a quaife LSD" haha

Posted by: Bix VT

...not too bright.

Still waiting on my car packages to come in...you guys will like the pics I'll send you.

Edit: I just found this picture online and realized...it's perfect.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Gerb lol... sounds like he has a bit of enthusiasm. I've definitely driven faster cars, but you can't beat the speed/price on this one

Gerb, btw are you available for some modding? Drive to the STL so we can do this....

http://www.siue.edu/~rmattis/rampurge.wmv

Posted by: Gerbilo

niiiiice.... if we are doing that to yours we gotta put mine on some NX
we just gotta make sure to hide all the wiring and put the bottle in a duffel back strapped into the truck

NX 70 shot should put me down to the mid 14s

Posted by: Bix VT

ok...even for me, that was pretty freakin cool.

Oh, is there a way to purge your nitrous lines without it being obvious? I'm planning on running some NX in my '92 5.0 when I get it, but I want it to be a sleeper...

Posted by: Spork Lover

You can do something like run a purge line underneath the car.... like put it by a muffler so that the purged Nitrous isn't obvious, and plus it might mask some of the sound,

Posted by: Gerbilo

you don't NEED to purge the line....

Posted by: Spork Lover

yeah you do...... well if you are at the track you do. It keeps you more consistent because it ensures you will purge the line of any air bubbles... that way you are only injecting N2O, and taking full advantage of the N2O

Posted by: Bix VT

Yeah gerb, purging = important. Otherwise you have to wait while all the crappy N2O is injected blah blah...

w/e I'm purging. Hmm...I wonder if you could split the line and have 2 purges? Well, one purge, but coming out of two places so it has half the noise and stuff.

Time for more research.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Im sure you can... but filling two seperate lines for purge will just waste more nitrous.....plus it'll take more Nitrous to fill the system and keep pressure.

edit: I was jsut thinking... two different purge sites will not quiet it down. The whole system will be under the same pressure. So its at the same pressure at both purge valves.... it wont quiet it down at all... might even make it louder.

You could always purge into a big ballon and poke a pin hole in it ..... lol

Posted by: Bix VT

hmm...could I purge into my exhaust manifold? Because that would be a good idea.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Quote:

as stated.. you don't NEED it...
if you wanna build a sleeper build a sleeper, if you wanna build a track car build a track car.. but it won't be a sleeper...

form follows function.

oh.. and I think purging into your exhaust mani will crack it.

Posted by: Bix VT

...I know. You didn't catch the sarcasm there?

I might try tapping it into my bumper. some place where there is only a very small outlet into the atmosphere, but there is a large space inside. Or perhaps the trunk...

Posted by: Gerbilo

what's it matter?

if you are going thru all this trouble it means you wanna run for money and have a car that is a sleeper... if you have the person on the track and you are staging.. that is when you will purge... by that time they shouldn't be able to back out.. and once you've run your secret is out anyway.

Posted by: Bix VT

I'm going through all this trouble simply because I want max performance, without a lot of noise.

I want a sleeper, but I don't want to run for money...I'm poor.

Posted by: Gerbilo

if you are poor do it the conventional way...

no need to waste money re routing purge lines for no good reason.

if you want a quiet car get a turbo

Posted by: Gerbilo

example

http://jtaylor.u24.hosting.thruport...dc2/muffler.jpg

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/w...kZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

notice how quiet it is even with the straight pipe

Posted by: Canis Lupus

http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsArticl...storyID=6093285

silent turbo perhaps? turbo fiat punto - or "hit the nawz, old bloke, gogogo!"

Posted by: Bix VT

Like I said gerb, I'M POOR. I don't have the $ for a turbo. Besides, what's it gonna cast to re-route the purge line? $50?

Posted by: Spork Lover

it's relatively cheap to buy tubing for a N2O setup. You can probably buy more than enough tubing for $15.

Posted by: Bix VT

Hmm, I just had a thought...maybe I should mount the purge valve in a very obvious place, like right nect to my windshield, and then only purge when I'm underway. Like if I'm racing someone and start to lose, all of a sudden they see this white plume and then I'm going faster...

Gee, it sounded a lot cooler in my head on the way home from work.

Posted by: Bobaroo

A saturn will never ever be fast

sorry

Posted by: Bix VT

I beg to differ:

http://www.turbosaturns.net/index.html

There are 5 saturns there which ran low to mid 13s.

Posted by: Spork Lover

The Ion Redlines aren't too shabby either. Right now they come with the eaton m63 Supercharger stock..... within a year or so you will see some with m90's.

The smart owners that want big power will go to a turbo setup...which can easily be borrowed from their SAAB cousins who also use the Ecotec, but instead turbo charge them.

And if the GM guys are really lucky, Kenne Belle will stop ignoring the GM guys who are supercharged stock.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Redline needs a couple of years. A bunch of reviews I read said that GM messed up on it big time. Advertising it at 205 HP, but it really as 180-190hp or something like that. Good start I guess, its hard to get something right on your first try

Posted by: Bix VT

especially when all you do is slap a supercharger on a car and call it fast. The only company that has that down is Mercedes.

Posted by: Gerbilo

I think Ford did it
and 13s aren't really that fast... I could put a reasonable size nitrous jet on my car(70) and be able to break into the 13s...

if you are running the 1/4... and you start to lose by enough that you know you are going to need the nitrous, you are going to have to take your hands off the controls to arm the system, activate the purge, and then you have missed a shift. Actually nevermind on that, you'd have to use a pushbutton system instead of a TPS system. which is... meh.....

still need to rig a firing system for that or buy a wheel...

and I think a purge system for many apps is $150 or so.

Posted by: Spork Lover

180 - 190hp?

All of the reviews I have read on the ION redline say that it's underrated. Maybe you misinterpreted a Dyno graph. Several reviews I have read stated that the Ion puts 193 HP to the wheels..... that mean it makes much more than its rated 205hp.

Bix come on you drive a saturn, you must know something about these cars. GM did not simply slap a supercharger on the Ecotec. They have been r&d'ing these things for at least 2 years. First they started out with a turbo setup... .but when they figured out it would step on Saab's toes (meaning steal sales).... they went with a supercharged application. First and foremost the bottom end is all forged, and the pistons are dished to lower the compression. That is the first sign that they did not "slap" on a supercharger. Second of all... it is a completely new bottom end.... the standard Ecotec is a 2.2L whereas the Ion redline has a 2.0L Ecotec. GM has plenty of knowledge to build from as well... they have been supercharging pontiacs and buicks since the early 90's. The fact that they finally include an intercooler shows that they are progressing finally too!

Although MB does make some wicked Supercharged cars... i gurantee you that they do not just slap those on either.

Woah.... I just read this article.... http://cars.ign.com/articles/536/53....html?fromint=1 with it weighing in at 2600lbs... that thing has alot of potential!

Posted by: Bix VT

Yeah I defiantely know MB knows their stuff. I know that GM didn't just "slap a super" on there, they made all the neccesary mods to make it reliable and all that...but I still have no respect for the ION at all.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Lol... Bix you are hard to please!!!!!

Someone give this man his 5.0!!!!

Posted by: Bix VT

Well, excuse me if it takes more than a turbo on a econobix to make me happy. The least someone could do is turbo a coupe! I mean really.

And yes I will pay $3-5k for an 87-92 5.0 LX with under 100k miles (and a stick) if you guys happen to see one.

Posted by: AK47

econobix

Posted by: Gerbilo

lol@AK

honestly the Ion Redline is the only saturn i'd ever even think about owning.. the rest are bleh...
I like turbos better for small FWD cars anyway... much more accessable power... superchargers just promote way too much wheelspin.

bix gonna trade his saturn for a fox?
better get that mullet growin

Posted by: Spork Lover

comeon econoboxes are the basis for american muscle cars. The GTO is based the tempest!!! Let's not forget the Nova which was an econobox with a big engine in it.

Posted by: Bix VT

lol, nice catch there AK. Must have been a fruedian slip...

Naw man...no mullet for me. I'm getting the 5.0 for it's low low price and fast speed. I mean really, what else can you buy for 3k that will go 0-60 in 6 flat? I'm willing to take suggestions...

I'd never consider owning any saturn after 97, just because they went over to the ecotec engine.

And sporko, those two cars were never econoboxes. They were big lumbering pieces of steel with huge engines. Kind of the opposite. To call it an econobox, you have to have a small car with a small engine making at LEAST 35mpg highway.

Posted by: Spork Lover

They were the economy cars of the day. The GTO was nothing more than a souped up tempest. The tempest came with a inline 6 or a small displacement v8 with a small 2 bbl carb that was there for good fuel economy. At the time they were also the smallest cars in those particular makes lineup.

Economy cars were obviously redefined in the 70's...but that's besides the point.

The point I was trying to make is there is a correllation between what their power formulas then and the power formulas now. Small light car + powerful engine.

We dont have to see eye to eye though.. so it's all gravy

Posted by: Bix VT

Agreed. I thought you were saying that the cars of that time got decent mileage and such...

And it's not like our views are that different...we both love cars, now don't we?

Posted by: Gerbilo

bix, 5.0 is alright... but remember you are sacrificing your ability to turn at all.

you are also going to have me yelling "Turn Left!" at you all the time

Posted by: Bix VT

I missed that joke.

However, when I'm done with my 5.0 It'll handle very nicely. I'm not planning on leaving the car stock at all. In fact, my first mods will be the tires, followed by some MAJOR suspension work.

Posted by: Superfly3176

http://www.albeedigital.com/superco.../0-60times.html

A 1990 Iroc-Z 0-60 in 5.8 It probably is the 5.7litre automatic too.

But here's the killer

1995 Mazda RX-7 R2 5.0 14.0

5 flat in 0-60 1/4 mile in 14. You know any other turbo charged 1.3litre engines that can do that?

Posted by: Bix VT

Yeah, but I can't really get those for 3k...especially not the RX-7. Plus you can't really build the RX-7 up much...there's only so much you can do with 1.3 liters.

Posted by: Superfly3176

Yeah but 500/600hp with an rx7 will handle better than a skyline at 900/1000hp. Or so I've been told. Also have been told that people do get them up that high.

An Iroc-z you can get for about 3k though.

Posted by: Bix VT

Well, if I can get an Iroc-Z for 3k that has under 100k miles and has a stick, I'd be willing to. That engine has more potential than the 302 in the 92 Stangs.

Posted by: Spork Lover

RX7's weigh 2600lbs... roughly.....soo in theory it will handle better than most other sports cars out there

The wankel is a crappy engine design... yes you can get some power out of 1.3l....but for how long.

The true weakpoint of the wankel engine is how they seal the combustion chamber..... a hard piece of metal that closes a hole and seals it with a squirt of oil....

piston engines use mechanical valves which seal much bettter...... I'll take one of those.

Posted by: Bix VT

That and they are lot easier/cheaper to fix and break less often...

Posted by: Gerbilo

the rotary in the rx7 has to be taken care of very well or it will die... apex seals are the weakpoint..
they can put out insane power though, yes, 600-700+ there are rx-7s out there trapping 150mph

oh bixer, Turn Left is kinda an inside joke... A friend who has a mustang has it yelled at him... cause that is all that nascars do.. turn left... get it now
and making a mustang handle is a waste of money... you'll need a lot of work to make it anything... those have solid axles right? the new cobras are the first w/ the IRS?
eh... i could have easily bought a 5.0 and done a ton to it... but yech... i almost bought a mustang too... modular 4v beast yay

Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]

just got an 88 honda crx si 1.6 dohc zc in it. cust intake and exaust. short shift tranny. stripped for weight. body kit electric blue. nice little addons

Posted by: Bix VT

WOOHOO! 1.6, you're flying now!

Posted by: Spork Lover

I believe when the cobras went modular they started putting IRS underneath them.

I work with a guy that has a 500 RWHP RX-7.... and he loves the car to death...but he hates the fact that he cant keep it running. By his tabulations his 1993 Rx7 has about 40k worth of parts and labor into it..... and according to him that means everything has been replaced minus the carpeting in the interior. In fact he just bought a ford festiva as a beater vehicle.... and I made a crack about the festiva being a beast of a car.... and he replied well you know what I love about the festiva? It runs!!.

Food for thought.... a die hard RX7 owner with a 40k beast.... making fun of keeping the car running.

Nice. You can make that car fly if you really want too.

Any pictures?

Posted by: Bix VT

Yeah, you just have to get an engine transplant from another car.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Heya pepsi, you are sure it's a DOHC? the ZC is SOHC...

oh.. and bix.. if his is DOHC.. it could walk yours any day of the week... even though it's 1.6

Posted by: Bix VT

Yeah, lets see some stats to prove it. I've driven my uncle's CRX, and wasn't impressed at all.

Posted by: AK47

He knows his stuff man.

Posted by: Gerbilo

If only you, me and joey all lived in the same area bix, you'd get to see...

joey's 88si has only a mere 1.6l DOHC VTEC in it. B16A
his red hatch(the94) only has a bigger motor but no VTEC... it's a 1.8l DOHC B18B

those are what we need to test this all out...

would you like stats on those vehicles/motors?

Posted by: Spork Lover

blah @ the b18 /16... h22 hatch... woop woop....I mean honduhs sux0rz!

Posted by: Gerbilo

yeaah

Posted by: Superfly3176

I drove my cousins zx3 the other day. Its pretty nice uncomfortbale inside though. And It does 0-60 in about 8 tics.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Dont let him break your neck with those speeds

Honda speak dumbfounds me..... I have no idea about their carious blocks/heads.

Posted by: Gerbilo

I have a B18C1, my old civic had a D16Z6

Haha, bad very bad!!! Stay away!

Posted by: Bix VT

And gerb, you need a L1f3!

Posted by: Gerbilo

got challenged to money race last night... decided it was best not to go for it.. i learned it was a wise decision afterwards

Posted by: Bix VT

wuss.

Oh, btw I raced an SRT-4 on the way home tonight and beat him.

haha, jk. He pulled my pants down and spanked me with a turbocharged 106hp spoon.

Posted by: Gerbilo

lol, any time you wanna race a B16 hatch lemme know, i'll set ya up

Posted by: Maverick

Hahahahahaha

Posted by: Spork Lover

raced and 96 LT1 auto Trans Am. I spanked the guy hardcore from a roll. First, Second, and Third. I had two extra guys in my car. We did try to race from a stop but Wheel Hop + bad launching anyway + Auto rools on launching = pwn3d. I guess tommorrow I'll install the motor mounts and hopefilly I can start to get some decent launches.

Posted by: Gerbilo

mounts will help your wheel hop... now you'll just get whole front end hop haha

i was thinking about doing for myself but I hear it's a major bitch to do it for a few of them.

AK knows how bad it can be in my car hehe.

sporky, you haven't been to the track yet have you?

Posted by: Spork Lover

not yet.

Posted by: Bix VT

I have.

I get a lot of front end hop any time I pop the clutch higher than 3k. Is there any way to eliminate it completely?

Posted by: Gerbilo

buy RWD...

motor mounts and suspension will help out. stiffen up the rear that way it can't be pushed down and the front can't lift.

yeah sporky, i was just wonderin what 60' you've pulled. the lowest i've gotten is 2.331 and i need to get that down

YOu have been saying that forever...

And god that car is ass ugly

Posted by: Bix VT

hey, I only get paid $7.25/hour and work only 20 hours a week, it takes a while to save up 5k on that sort of pay...

And I love that car so :P

oh, bobaroo, did I send you an invite to my forum?

Posted by: Spork Lover

Replace your upper and lower motor mounts, and then replace your tranny mount. Wheel hop from a FWD car is the result of the engine and tranny bouncing around. It's bouncing around cause the tire is right at its limit for gripping the road, and it wants to let loose. Motor mounts are supposed to absorb this abuse... but most stock ones dont. Polyurethane motor mounts and tranny mount is the only way to go!!!

In a RWD car its the result of the rear end bouncing around.... so in a rwd drive car you would stiffen trailing arm bushings, stiffer trailing arms, stiffer shocks/springs.

Or you can just use the old tried and true method.... just add more power so those tires wont think twice about gripping the road.

Posted by: Gerbilo

how much would it cost to replace all the mounts? I don't exactly have the tools to do it myself

Sell the saturn...and yes

Posted by: Bix VT

I can'y sell it, I'll have no way to get to work.

and if I invited you then WHY AREN'T YOU POSTING?

and the same goes for that looooooooozer Jim, too.

kiss my grits mav. You need to come too.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Sell your saturn, and by the Stang....

You can get more then 5k for the saturn.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Bix, you gotta make sure they sell mounts for your car first... if they don't sell aftermarket ones then there isn't any real point unless you can custom fab. them yourself.

Try Prothane or Energy Suspension.. they make bushings so they might make mount bushings

Posted by: Spork Lover

You can always get them made It's just a poly urethane fill.

Posted by: Bix VT

Bobaroo, I doubt I could get 5k for it. 91k miles, sunroof is broke, door used to leak (don't know why it stopped) it's been on one SIGNIFICANT accident and there's 2 or 3 small spots of rust.

How much would it cost to get them all made, like $200?

SRT-4 vs Ion redline comparo

Finally Car & Driver has completed the test on the Redline...and here are the results for those wanting a better comparison of the two cars...enjoy

0-130mph : 24.8
Standing 1/4-mile: 13.9 sec @ 103 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 153 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 169 ft

Braking, 70-0 mph: 162 ft
0.85g's on the skid pad

Posted by: Gerbilo

lol, 141mph top speed that is drag limited? interesting

Posted by: Spork Lover

Drag limited = not enough nuts to hit its top speed

Posted by: Bix VT

LOLOLOL

I feel sorry for the poor sap who actually thought there could EVER be a real contest between the "redline" and the SRT-4. The redline is teh suck.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Not bad for 18k(is it still that price)

Posted by: Gerbilo

bixer, those numbers are a lot closer to each other than you an a b16 crx would be

Posted by: Gerbilo

A guy I used to work with was in the restaurant tonite... he's kinda nuts.. but he's real big into cars and has tons of money so it's cool. I was talking to him about car stuff and he mentioned he just put an SLP exhaust on his new GTO today... of course I had to hear it
it sounded so god damn awesome, he tore out of the lot and down the street fishtailing and it sounded absoloutly awesome. the dude is nuts tho cause he almost went flying off...
he's also got a 70something Camaro that runs 11s and a GNX that just ran an 8.52 last week

Posted by: Spork Lover

stock GTO's sound heavenly stock already..... besides the Vetter and the Viper, not another american car uses a true dual setup.

Posted by: Gerbilo

yeah, he has the SLP intake kit and now the SLP catback...
i asked him if he was doing what IMO makes those cars sound even better.... a Cam

yup, cam and manifolds are next on his list... not bad work for a car that only has 1600miles lol.

Posted by: Superfly3176

Yeah! got to drive my dads truck today. The mofo is loud at 3500-4500 rpms. Its pretty fast too. 5.2 litre BRROOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM.

Posted by: Gerbilo

dakota?

Posted by: Superfly3176

nope ram 1500

Posted by: Hambones

Is it new? If not, how many transmissions has it been through!?

Posted by: Gerbilo

ahhh, I thought only dakotas and grand cherokees had the 5.2... oh well

oh yeah LOL@hambones for saying what I was thinking

Posted by: Bix VT

Gerb, you find me a stock b16 or at least stats on one and I'll believe you. Until then, all I have to go in is my personal experience driving my uncles. And it sucked. The only good thing about it was it's handling and mileage.

Posted by: Gerbilo

where at in NoVA are you? I'm sure I can find someone w/ a B16 crx or civic

Posted by: Spork Lover

Im now actively searching for Stage I and a WGA. With that $400 investment, when properly tuned I should be in the mid - low 13's. It's the equipment SRTGurl had when she ran against the viper and beat it!

Posted by: Gerbilo

Boost controller... some jackass that a friend of mine knows bought a boost controller and is running at 22psi.. .everything else is stock...lol

you could up it to 10-12 completely safely i think.

oh bixer. haha... me and Craig were up at autozone and the guy parked next to us had a nice big blue bottle in his back seat and NOS stickers all over... it was really just a subwoofer and he got all pissed when we were laughin at him

you should do the same haah

Posted by: Bix VT

LOL that's so gay...naw if I get a bottle in the back of my car, it'll provide hp, not sound.

And I live in Springfield, at the 95/395/495 interchange/the mixing bowl.

next to alexandria.

ninja edit: 22015

Posted by: Superfly3176

NOpe its a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 8ft bed regular cab. 140,130mi. And 1 tranny we are still on the first 1.

Posted by: Bix VT

5.2...what are the numbers on that thing?

Posted by: Gerbilo

Ahhh... finally back home. I left for Route66 Raceway at 1030 this morning and I got back around 11 tonite...

I have a crapload of pics i'll have uploaded later on, but sleep now I think.. gotta get back there early tomorrow

Oh yeah bixer, no Saturns ran The only domestics were 1 neon and a handful of cavaliers.

Posted by: Bix VT

lol, of course no saturns ran...I'm probably the only guy who races his saturn within 50 miles of here.

not nearly as common to find a saturn that will race you as it is to find an Acura or Civic...

I think I'll start calling you bandwagon boy.

at least until you COME TO MY FORUM!

Posted by: Superfly3176

Not sure I don't race it, It is a truck. But its pretty damn fast. Its a 318 with 4 speed auto transmission, other than that i couldn't tell you.

Posted by: Bix VT

Well I didn't know if you ever took it to the 1/4 or not...

Posted by: Gerbilo

Hah, Bixer... I have had a Honda for years... it's not like I went out and picked up a 240sx or a AE86 corolla and started being a drifter

i have 202 pics from BOTI, i'll post some teasers in a second

Heres my friends Camaro. No inside pics yet, he just bought a new MP3 deck and doesnt have everything quite polished yet. Still has the Dual 12" 450w MTX Thunder subs though. Also got his Infinity Kappa Perfect speakers in a while ago, they sound really good.

Posted by: Bix VT

ooh, nice sound system there skyhn.

and gerb: nice pics except for that fugly purple GS-R...bleh!

Posted by: Gerbilo

All pics from IDRA:Battle of the Imports

feel free to ask any questions, those pics are just me ****in around heh

if you see the timing board in a pic it's normally a car in the previous pic that ran that time.

Posted by: Bix VT

oh my. I dont have time for that!

I'll have to wait until after work when I'm totally wasted and want to die

Got my license yesterday, I am now free to roam about with my 250C ;P

Mazda Speed 6

Might be interesting. The car is a bit on the heavy side, but might be fun with the addition of that AWD system. Hopefully it will take to mods better than the MazdaSpeed Protege.

MazdaSpeed 6 Confirmed

looks cool

Posted by: Gerbilo

nifty

Posted by: Bobaroo

I like

+turbo
+40hp
+AWD

on an already cool car

Posted by: Bix VT

a regular subaru beater...

Posted by: Bobaroo

Its a WRX in a mazda body, with more power and a much nicer interior.

But I bet it will be even more then the RX-8

Posted by: Bix VT

wouldn't surprise me. the one drawback to the RX-8 is the lack of power. they should offer turbo trim with 350hp+ and slap the mazdaspeed logo on it.

Posted by: Gerbilo

I thought we went over this.. it'll be very hard for the RX-8 to pass emissisons with a turbo. The exhaust from the RENESIS rotary isn't very hot to begin, adding a turbo into the loop would cool it down further... to the point that it wouldn't react properly with the catalyst in the cat. converter....

still would be cool though.

Posted by: Bix VT

supercharger could do it...

Posted by: Bobaroo

RX-8 makes fine power, its the gas milage and the constant replacement of oil that scares people away

Posted by: Spork Lover

for a 27k sports car, the RX8 does not make fine power. Dont get me wrong, it looks good and is very nice.... but come on... it needs more nuts. The engine itself makes a nice peak hp number, but thats all it is... peak... it needs to have a broader and flater power curve...... and even though rotary guys will say torque means nothing.... that thing needs torque.

It will most definitely cost more than an rx8. The 6's I looked at were 27k, add a turbo'd engine and AWD and it will surely push it to the 30 range.

quoted for truth.

BUMP!

We need convos

Posted by: Bix VT

yes.

oh, I was driving down an offramp in the rain at about 60 last week and felt for front tires bite and the rear start to swing around...I let it keep going until I was at this awesome 45 drgee drift, it was so amazing I wish I'd had someone there filming it, I bet it looked AWESOME.

Posted by: Spork Lover

driftooooooo

One time I was trying to show off ( I was 16 and I now know better) for a buddy of mine riding in my car. On the nicest smoothest piece of pavement I could find I went to lock up my e-brake so my rear tires would screech.... well it was a rainy day and I underestimated the powers of physics. My rear tires locked up and I got the cool sound i wanted.... then the rear of the car swung forwarrd (I didnt want) and I slid sideways towards a stoplight for about 20 or so feet . I looked to my left and the cars that should have been behind me we now beside me and swerving and what not so they can avoid hitting me...... then the car righted itself and we came to a stop at the white line at a red light..... it was as if it never happened. I was pretty damn scared cause I didnt expect the spin.... but afterwards I was laughing hysterically..... not because it was funny, because OMG I was so scared. It was on a Marine Base, so alot of young marines were driving in vehicles around us..... and I got a few thumbs up.... definitely wasn't what I was going for though.

Moral: I was stupid, and am proof that 16 year olds shouldn't be given drivers licenses. I fully endorse the graduated license scheme. I needed it, and Im sure tons of other kids need it too now!

Posted by: Bix VT

hahahahahahaha

it's funny because the marines gave you a thumbs up!!!

marines are awesome!

I hadn't intended to drift. but I wasn't about to turn it down after it started...hahaha

btw I use the handbrake to do that all the time...there's this one 90 degree turn right next to my house where you can see perfectly and make sure nobody is coming. I can only do it in the rain though, otherwise my ES100s wont break grip enough. Plus I have only gone comepletely sideways once! but it wasnt a problem because I always make sure there are no other cars. don't want that element of unpredictability...

Posted by: Gerbilo

bix that's just called sliding out of control and isn't exactly good drifting

Posted by: Bix VT

I know, but it's still fun! plus whats the downside?

Posted by: Spork Lover

Drifting > tire life

Posted by: AK47

oxymoron

Posted by: Gerbilo

what? me talking about keeping a car in control?

Replaced my busted shock tonite, so shit is back in order.
Also.. changed the oil... Mobil 1 bitches

haha, AK, i got old motor oil all over the floor at Advantage lol

Posted by: Bix VT

wtf my car omg

ok I went to work today and everything was fine. then when I tok my lunch break, it started knocking. so I was wtf I didnt do anything to you baby, why you treating me bad? so I checked the oil and I had like 2 quarts left. even though it was FINE two days before. it's like it all evaporated or something, because there were no oil spots anywhere. so I put in some more mobil one after I got off work and the knock went away.

I still have no idea where my oil went.

oh yeah, and I dont generally drift in the dry weather...only the rain. because then you have less grip and also your tires dont die as much.

++ I'm willing to sacrifice tire life for a little fun. otherwise I'd have bought OEM tires instead of the yokos.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Bix check your radiator.... whats the color of the fluid?

Posted by: Bobaroo

Drifting in a FWD car

Posted by: Gerbilo

syn + dino oil = not good... so don't just top off a case of conventional with syn...
not sure what you are running but yeah.

Posted by: Bobaroo

http://www.efflixi.com/images/ussdoriftotTurn.jpg

Posted by: Bix VT

Gerb: I always run synthetic.

And I'll go check my radiator right now...

Posted by: Bix VT

It's the normal pink color that it was the last time I changed it out.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Ya. GM uses pink coolant

Posted by: Gerbilo

Yuk, I don't like that stuff.. try to fill up the tank and you realize you can't cause you gotta buy some crazy crap!

Posted by: Bix VT

tell me about it. "dexcool" I think it's called. made for girls. give me the toxic green any day.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Just drain the dexcool and use good ol green stuff

Posted by: Bobaroo

Dexcool is made by the same company who makes the greenstuff(prestone)

And its better for watercooling systems, so I am sure it is good for the car

Posted by: Bix VT

I know it's the same company but I prefer green, it being my favorite color and all.

it it overkill to shoot an ant with a bb gun?

Posted by: Spork Lover

Dexcool is supposed to be better. Most people have no clue how to maintain a dexcool system, and the coolant gets old and it starts to solidify, reducing the cooling efficiency of the radiator...... it's not worth the hassle... just get the green!

Posted by: Bix VT

shall drain, flush and refill with classic cat killer right away!

Posted by: Gerbilo

Let me know if you can or cannot see those, i might have to find another host cause I don't think this one will work w/ OTS

Posted by: Bix VT

I see 'em just fine.

I was soooo close to getting an MR-2...I was working for this woman mucking horse stalls for about a year...every day for a year. If she had paid me $5/hour it would have worked out to a grand total of 4k. instead she decided to pay me with a car. at first she offered me this sweet black MR-2 she had sitting on her lot that nobody ever drove...but then she changed her mind and stuck me with the 1987 plymouth colt that had a bad front end and the electrical system was so shot that any time you hit the brakes and the brake lights went on, it would kill the engine because the plugs would lose power. oh yeah, and the brakes were bad, the wipers were missing, and it burned massive oil and had severe head problems. and at least one bent valve. the KBB on it was about $800 (assuming the tach was accurate) but there was NOBODY that would have paid that, so we donated it to charity and my parents took a tax right-off instead.

Posted by: Bix VT

I don't remember if I posted this before or what became of it, but does anyone know where I can get new mounts for my SC2? I'm getting really pissed at my wheelspin turning into wheel hop...

Posted by: Gerbilo

I've learned to better control my wheelhop, now i can launch very well... barking 2nd and 3rd if I please haha

But since you can see the pics, i'll toss more up there

Gerb, how many times must I say it?

STOCK CRX. I'M OVERCONFIDANT. WILL RACE. FIND ME ONE.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Ok..... I started by taking off the wheels and cleaning inside of them

http://webpages.charter.net/sporksa...-4/CIMG0977.JPG
http://webpages.charter.net/sporksa...-4/CIMG0975.JPG

Well while I had the wheels Off I took some other pictures

Turbo... even the Calipers know it
http://webpages.charter.net/sporksa...-4/CIMG0965.JPG

Plastic, yes plastic Gas tank. hope I dont get rear-ended(eff you dirty minded people, premptive) or that the gas tank has a bladder in it.
http://webpages.charter.net/sporksa...-4/CIMG0967.JPG

The Muffler (haha, its just a resonator not really a muffler)

I need a class in how to work my digital camera. Sometimes I can't get the colors to balance, and other times I can't set the flash right and the light sensitivity right, so everything is dark. Damn cameras!!! With that being said....

And yes bix, i'll try to find a B16 CRX in NoVA to race you.

Posted by: AK47

how long till the neon gets a redesign? It's been on the current design for a while, hasnt it?

I'd imagine that whenever the new model makes its way out that Dodge would be designing it with the SRT in mind.... might turn out pretty good.

edit: thanks for stealing our bandwidth Jim!

Hahahaha!

LOLOL

owned.

btw, this one is for you, Gerb:
http://www.razorbacks.valcato.net/camaro/owned.jpg

oh and btw, remember that I said STOCK crx. no mods.

Posted by: Spork Lover

The current neon design has been around since about 2000 I beleive.
The redesign is coming in 2006. It will be sharing a platform with the Lancer.

As far as the SRT goes no one knows... will there be one? Maybe, and if there is one, one thing is for sure, it maybe the dodge awd variant of the EVO. Kind of cool that the next SRT might share driveline parts with the Evo.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Nice Spork. I don't like the stock wheels for the SRT, they look funny. But otherwise nice car.

What do you plan on doing to it?

Posted by: Bix VT

I think they look ok, but what really impresses me is the stock rubber.

Oh wait, I should stop before it sounds like I actually like that car

Posted by: Spork Lover

Wednesday I expect my first power mod.. Stage I woohooo

Posted by: Bobaroo

It seems like there is a big wheel gap, but maybe its just the pics

Posted by: Spork Lover

definitely a big wheel gap. Im working on fixing that as well.

Posted by: Bix VT

Stage I + lowered suspention = sounds good for 60 in the high 4s.

Posted by: Gerbilo

DIE LAGGY! It is because OTS isn't approved on the list for We-Todd-Did... you should get it approved!

Posted by: Bobaroo

I saw the pictures from We-Todd-Did

Hah, you're the ones visiting that site - YOU get it approved

Actually, I know they make them sor saturns because I've seen a link to them before. The only thing is, I can't remember which forum it was on

Posted by: Superfly3176

Found out today that as long as all 3 of our vehicles are in good running condition than my parents are giving me a car (or maybe a truck, I should be so lucky.) But 2 of them are broke down. My dad's car goes into the garage today. He's an idiot, This is what he decided in his second attempt to replace the plugs to hose down the engine than install them, because he was impatient. the result is a car that does work.
