I just leased a 2005 BMW 325xi Executive Edition. I just noticed the difference between 17" rims and 16" rims and I gotta say the 17" looks much better. I'm not sure the advantage of an inline block though... the salesman just keep telling me how their car is much better than Audi's A4 'cause I told him I was also considering that car at the moment. But does any one know if that car is dual exhaust or it's just a single exhaust with two pipes leading out of them?

Posted by: Gerbilo

anthony, you should always consult me before buying/leasing cars!!!

bix, there was one of those for sale on my boards a short while ago. A turbo saturn w/ 200k on it for $400 hahaha, we were gonna buy it to blow it up.

Posted by: Bix VT

if it's still for sale I'll go in on with you 50/50 and we can try to blow a piston through the hood.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Anthony...Its single exhaust with 2 pipes

Posted by: Gerbilo

AMS owns the world,

From my friend who is the sales manager:
"One of our customers from FL shipped his car down to us to have it built up. when he left the car was making 600 plus WHP on just boost. well he drove it home 15 hours later called me up and had us walk through switching the map to the race gas file..."

Posted by: Bix VT

omg.

how much do they charge for that kind of ownage??

Posted by: Gerbilo

it depends, they have many different types of ownage available, most are applications for the 4g63... which you seem to lack bix...time for a swap?

Posted by: Bix VT

lol

yeah gl with that. the only reason to do it would be less weight.

Posted by: Gerbilo

what are you talking about?

Posted by: Bix VT

Posted by: Gerbilo

what would be less weight?

Posted by: Bix VT

a 4g63 engine in my car vs in an evo.

I figured thats what you meant when you said it was "time for a swap"

Posted by: Gerbilo

oh yeah... i thought you were referring to a 4g being light compared to your motor....

whatever, went up to AMS today, they are installing a turbo kit on my friends tC

Posted by: Bobaroo

turbo on tc? go for the dealer supercharger kit

Posted by: Bix VT

turbo is nicer, you can stay out of the boost and get good mileage that way. and also with a super you don't get full boost until redline, whereas a turbo can give it to you at 4k or so.

Posted by: Gerbilo

this is half the cost of the supercharger, and makes more power on a low boost setting.

FWD superchargers are lame because all they do is cause wheel spin... turbo lag is good for FWD applications.

lysolm type superchargers can make full boost before redline....

Supercharged cars are just like turbo charged cars. You have the ones where the boost is instant and hits hard as soon as you hit the gas (Small turbos and root/screw type superchargers). You have the ones where it takes time to build up boost and run like a raped ape on top end (Big turbos and CSC type superchargers). It all comes down to matching a supercharger / turbo with your engine and application.

Supercharged cars also have boost bypass systems just like Turbo cars, so it's possible to drive around without being in boost and getting good gas mileage. Of course thats tough to do cause supercharger whine is sweet sounding. To be honest though I see more boost with my turbo car than my supercharger. The turbo spools based on exhaust gas velocities, and the supercharger builds boost based on rpms and the settings of the boost bypass system. Well under normal acceleration(under 50% throttle) with my supercharged car I would see no or very little boost.... and with my turbo car based on the load on the engine (meaning if I am on a hill, going down hill, have passengers....) boost can vary under normal acceleration between 5 - 8 psi. They both had about the same gas mileage around the city though... roughly 20 - 22 mpg.

Powerful FWD cars suck period as far as traction goes.... physics works against them! And physics especially hate SRTs!

Posted by: The-AoD

I have to say, FWD cars aren't as bad as you think, when they are properly set up. If you spike out the front suspension settings, and set them hard as can be, of course, you'll have a bunch of wheelspin, but setup right, with a nice LSD, you can watch, yes, even an SRT-4 pos run nice times in the 1/4. It's all in how you get the power to the ground, most importantly, the tires, only contact you have, and second, how you're controlling them. Not too aweful long ago, a friend and me went down to a guy's small time drag track. We watched his boy take a cavalier to under 10 in the 1/4. It's possible, but it takes time and effort. And big ass wad burning in you wallet. Either way, it's all in how you set it up. It's 10% driver 90% car. What's really fun is watching an automatic family car run down the track like a pro stock. A friend of that kids had an older style cutlass 4 door, I believe it was a Ciera, but I could be wrong. The BOV on that thing would probably blow you over. But with the right coin, anything is possible.

BTW, Jim, did you see where that guy took that sunfire into the 7s? That's insanity on a stick, I bet they had to scrap the car after that run. OHH and btw, go get a summit racing catalog, gogogogoogogogoggogo '65 Impala, 1600 ponies... omg yes.. it's awesome centerfoldage.. Almost as good as last months pla... nevermind.

I did the first mod to the wifemobile finally though... It's gonna be my playtoy soon enough..

1998 Escort LX 4 Door
2.0 (not ZTec) SOHC I4
FWD Automatic

Yeah baby, starting with 122hp... Let's go..

Anyways, I ripped that buttplugger canister muffler off of it, ford mufflers suck... I put a Thrush Glasspack on it (I wasn't going to buy a damned ricer muffler either!!!!) Next to go is the stock mesh cat to manifold BS, and I'll probably throw a borla, or dynomax performance cat on it. Then, of course... CAI! Already got some NGK racing plugs for it. The exaust tip on it tho.. omg... It's 4in, and it just doesn't look right in any way at all!!! Big ass exaust, small car.. wtf...

And the cutlass got it's second engine mod. I changed the stock O2 sensor to a bosch high performance gas mialage killer. Now it has a freewheel clutched altenator. Which takes 40% less power to run than the stock model. I also am in the process of changing over the idler pullies to super low friction pullies. Soon enough, I'll figure out a way to convert the airbox to a CAI, without screwing up the MAF sensor.. Those things are so irritating.. I swear.. I have the parts, just that damned sensor causes flooding since, it's getting so much. And the adjuster screw on it is stripped.. Might just get a new one..

Posted by: Bix VT

so how does the escort sound now? I want to get a full exhaust on my satty, but I really want to avoid the ricey sound that a lot of systems put out. something more deep, like what I have now with my intake but more so.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Front suspension isnt the problem with a FWD car. It's the transfer of weight from the driving wheels. You can correct it, but it makes the car ride like crap. Lots of guys jack up the rear of the car and stick rubber spring blocks in between coils to give the car a stinkbug stance. It works at the track, but when your not there you wont have those blocks. Physics hates FWD cars

Posted by: Gerbilo

Steve... your mods always confuse me haha

Bixer.... you have a domestic 4cyl... good luck finding exhaust that doesn't sound like crap... sorry, the only one i've ever heard that doesn't sound like balls is on an SRT-4.

As far as FWD launches.. you can do it.. it's just not easy... for my next trip to the track... the front suspension is getting softened up and the rear is staying stiffy haha.... also... tire pressure makes a big difference people!

my brakes come in on monday... that should be fun... heat cycling them for 500 miles haha

Posted by: Bix VT

I've heard other people with my engine that have a nice sound from it...I just need to choose a muffler and cat that won't make it sound like a civic with a fart cannon.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Bix, the new redlines have a great sound, see what they have from the factory

Gerb try the spring blocks!

Posted by: DemonBob

Guys I just picked up a 96 Nissan Altima with a Body Kit and new Paint Job on it, the only thing wroong with it, is that the previous owners never got to finish the inside, because it got repo'd, and it is an automatic, not a bad car for 2 g's.

Also just found another one for 3g's that is a standard, might give the one I just got to my wife and get the otherone for myself.

Posted by: Gerbilo

bix, you wish your car sounded as good as a civic.. dseries are okay, but B-series are some of the best sounding 4cyls...

sporky, **** spring blocks, i'll do what I can on my own, if I really need traction bad I better be making more power than now and I will run some MTs. then you will alllll be in trouble haha

oh... if anyone is bored and lookin to run for money, i've got a galant that is lookin for some action right here

at the moment I have an WAI, bored TB and intake manifold, and I jsut ordered a full exhaust setup, so I should have it all on when I stop by chicago

So you have 130hp now?

Posted by: Bix VT

by the time I have all this done, I expect about that at the wheels, considering another guy with an SC2 made 125whp with only a CAI and bored TB

Posted by: Gerbilo

what the hell is a WAI?

you are making like 100whp.. and i/e + tb would make it like... 105... we'll see

Posted by: Bix VT

WAI = warm air intake...aka ram air intake...

it's the same thing you have.

Posted by: Bix VT

here's the proof:

Posted by: Bobaroo

So your getting about 150ish hp at the crank? not bad

I really like the ion redline, if it was rwd drive or awd I would so get it! Damn wrx is a little to much for me

Posted by: Gerbilo

I still don't beleive that a couple of boltons can add 25% more whp....

that's not my dyno sheet, it's a friends...but seriously, all he had was an AEM CAI and a bored TB.

those AEM intakes are golden, I know another friend that got 11whp out of his when he put it on his SRT-4

Posted by: Gerbilo

weird.... on hondas they get like 3hp haha

Ok, but still if you have 130whp, you have a manual car its about 10-15% drive train loss

yeah...?

I think I'm missing your point...

Posted by: Gerbilo

he says you are teh slow!!!

Posted by: Bix VT

the statement would have made more sense if it had been "Ok, but still if you have 130 at the crank, you have a manual car its about 10-15% drive train loss"

otherwise it sounds kind of redundant unless you are pointing out that my crank hp is higher...?

Posted by: Bobaroo

I dunno i was complimenting you and then i dunno what else i ment

Posted by: Bix VT

well then I thank you.

but again, that's not my car...yet. I should be getting all my goodies in the mail some time within 2 weeks.

Posted by: Merlinmsk

Oh joy for my truck...

after spending a few weeks with a highly annoying squeal coming from the left rear end of my truck, I made a investigation today...

Brakes....nope
Suspension....nope

Now, with my dad underneath, and me inside with my foot ready to hit the break in case it falls off the jacks, he checked it out with a stethoscope and found it was the carrier bearings(did i spell it right?). now, i just need to know some prices on em, and possibly how long it would take to replace em. And I do know they're pressed in, but don't worry, we actually have a press here(suprisingly). so, hopefully now my only problem left is replacing the bushings for my suspension in the rear, and that should be all, and no more squeaks.

Posted by: Gerbilo

so... craig and I built an intake for his grand cherokee today... increased gas mileage about 4mpg... yeah... go stock airboxes

Posted by: Bix VT

you sacrifice so much for a quiet car

Posted by: Gerbilo

yeah, it makes a nice noise now, power has increased significantly(for such a minor mod), and gas mileage has jumped weird....

Posted by: Bix VT

really makes you wonder why they put such a crappy intake system on there in the first place.

Posted by: Gerbilo

so it is quiet!

Posted by: Bix VT

funny, I just had this conversation with my boss this afternoon...

she would take quiet over speed and fuel economy. go figure. she's old.

Posted by: Gerbilo

yup, my autotech teacher told us many many times. "NO ONE WILL BUY A LOUD CAR!"
it's true for the most part. Younger people such as ourselves often times don't car, same with many enthusiasts, but the vast majority wants a quiet car.

Posted by: tovarich

Can anybody give me some tips how I can get my tires nice and black ? Paul

Posted by: Bix VT

are your tires currently white?

but if you mean that nice shiny black as opposed to the normal dull black that most tires have, I would reccomend this:

http://www.superiorcarcare.net/mg12115.html

it will make your tire look like this:

Black Magic tire shine....

I believe thats what it is called...amazing

Posted by: AK47

I always use meguiars endurance goop. smells like cough syrup.

when the exploders tires get brown, I throw some of that on there and it keeps em black for a while. I dont dig the extra gloss nonsense.

I see...

I was recently offered some thin 5 spoke rims that should've fit my car, but it turns out that my wheel hub is too big for them...now I could grind out the fitting on the wheels, but would that compromise the structural integrity at all?

here's something similar to what the wheels look like:

http://www.centerlinewheels.com/ima...orm_301x281.jpg

except the spokes on the ones I'd be buying are slightly smaller. they are 17x7 and come with brand new yoko ES100 rubber...I could probably get them for 500 or so.

but like I said, would the wheels be compromised at all by boring the hub fitting out slightly?

Posted by: Gerbilo

Don't try to alter the wheels, it just isn't worth it. Also... I think 17s will look waaaaaay too big on your car, but that is just me. Everyone I know with 17s that came from 14s or 15s want to ditch their wheels and pick up a smaller set. 16s is where it's at
What lug pattern do you have? 4x100? 4x114?
We will find you some decent wheels

Been driving Pontiac Grand Prix: 98, 01, 04. Just love it.

Posted by: Bobaroo

I still need a new damn car, I have a summer job and may get a second one, so I can get a car.

Some I am looking at.

2002+ Ford Focus SVT
2002+ Volkswagon GTI 1.8t
1999 Honda Civic SI
2002/03 Nissian SER Spec-V
1997+ Integra GSR

Posted by: Bix VT

I'd say either the focus or the civic.

and gerb, here's what my car would look like with 17s

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/258658

I'm not a huge fan of the body kit, but it gets the point of the rim size across.

Posted by: Superfly3176

Okay Lancer Evo VIII MR series vs. Subaru STi?

I personally prefer evo.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Bob, The SVT is a very underrated car and everyone I know that owns one enjoys it.
the GTI is only worth it if you are going to do $1000 or so worth of upgrades rather quickly, other than that.
The SI is an SI... everyone has one, that is bad, but what is good is that means you can find TONS of parts for it. Also the 8300rpm redline is kinda nice.
The SE-R ... bah, i'm not a fan at all.
as far as a GS-R, 98 was the minor redesign year. It's faster than an SI, nicer than an SI, and more rare than an SI, and costs the same because not everyone and their sister wants one.

Bixer, it will look different one your car, without a body kit, and without a drop your car will look like a 4x4

Posted by: Bobaroo

I have heard great things about the SVT, and i love the interior (from pics). The GTI is supposely the fastest, but I dunno if I am a fan of volkswagon or not. The SI, i will only get in the 1999 coupe form, and the Spec V is supposely pretty zippy.

Posted by: Gerbilo

The SE-R has the least potential of the group... the VW isn't any quicker than the GS-R, i've raced my friends before. It kinda depends on what you want, the SVT probably has the best initial handling of the group... it kinda depends on what you know and what appeals to you... I could never see myself owning a VW or a sentra... the SVT would appeal to me if the price were right, the problem is that they are discontinued and you might not get the aftermarket product support you are looking for.

Pretty much figure out what you are going for, straight line speed, handling ability, reliability, etc etc..

Posted by: AK47

I like the Focus the best of all the cars listed. One of the very few cars where I'd be somewhat comfortable going with a domestic over an import.

I wouldn't touch a Volkswagen. I guess I value reliablity too much.

Actually thr SVT is not discountinued, I have read the focus SVT is coming back in 06-08, one of those years I think.

I read that the VW was the fastest 0-60, but as you said, I am not a VW man. The SVT seems to have damn good handeling and I could probably get one iwth 15-20k milage for $12-14k, so we'll see

Turbo Camaro, 505 hp @ 8.5 psi vs a Civic.

that's some loud turbo setup.

hahah, That's nothing compared to a car they were tuning when we were at The Whip Factory yesterday. We were there for like 5 hours just dickin around and watching the street tuning runs. Also tried to set up a race with a local... WF built Civic vs an 01 Z28.... it was gonna be hella fun but the guy w/ the camaro chickened out after hearing the twostep on the civic hahaha.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Well Monday Evening or Tuesday I pick up my "beater" car. Scion TC. Im finally going to seriously pursue selling the SRT. I have been traveling with work for the last few weeks (Kileen Tx, Pearl Harbor HI).... so I haven't had much of a chance to try and sell it.

Gerb... if you know anyone in Chi-town looking for cheap easy power..... 16k is bottom dollar.... I listed it at that price so the hagglers can feel like they won when they knock off almost a grand.

they have really ironed out a lot of electronic problems over the years, newer fords don't have the same problems that the older ones do. although I can definately attest to having to replace the alternator in my old MT-5 Taurus 3 times during it's life (it did go 250k with no mechanical trouble though. replacing the clutch doesnt count)

Well the electrical shenanigans I've had with a 98 explorer has been more than enough to make me wary of anything Ford touches. Funny thing is that the stuff I had go wrong (burnt out dash lights, dead radio display, pointless check engine light... etc) are quite common to Ford. A long time ago- my parents old 88 Taurus had a burnt out radio display, unfunctional gas gauge and a crummy spedo. A friend's taurus had similar spedo problems.

Odd thing is that the Explorer has been trouble free aside from the electrical crap. I'd almost rather have something blow up instead of stupid electrical issues. Dash lights SHOULDN'T BURN OUT after 3 years of service.

Yeah... AK's electrical shens on the exploder are just uncalled for... it's just stupid crap that you want fixed, but isn't major enough to spend money on... LAME!

It is however the most MINT explorer w/ 98k on the odo EVAR!

Posted by: Bix VT

hmm...so you're saying the shenanigans that the explorer is exhibiting are not "cheeky and fun"?

like I said, from what my mechanic friend tells me (he works at a lincoln/mercury dealer) they have fixed a lot of the electrical problems after the '02 line.

how is the tC on the inside? I'm making a lost of all the cars I'd consider buying after my satty blows up, and that's definately on the list.

they're nice inside... real quiet and nice dash materials for the cost

Toyota Corolla 1997. 4 cylinders. 28mpg. Stick Shift. Cassete/FM/AM tuner .
It might be the most common car in America but it can pull of 110mph easy. Haven't gone higher cause there's too many cars on the highway.

Looks similar to this:
http://zveno.ru/photo/catalog/Toyot.../ce_1_00_01.jpg

Dash looks kinda like this, but its reversed and there's no XM radio or tachometer:
http://images.ibcjapan.co.jp/2003/0...18_I_large.jpeg

I'll get some of my own pics later.

Posted by: Bix VT

a stick with no tach? I hate those. a friend of mine had one and he was convinced he was shifting at 3k rpm but it sounded more like 5k. but then it was a kia so it just might have sounded like it wanted to die at 3k.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Bix, lotsa cars lack tachs for some odd reason... weird...
Kias sound ****ed up.... my friend has a spectra and it sounds like a damned diesel on startup and like poo the rest of the time...

nice car tho sporky, two friends of mine have them... one is awaiting his turbo kit

Meh... I don't mind. It probably is sounding worse than it should be, but it's really racking on the years.

And besides... the acceleration makes it sound HOT!

Posted by: Bobaroo

So how long do mid 90 mustang GT's last?

Posted by: TheeMon

ok heres a car question... what all can i do to a 93' chevy s10 to improve gas mileage? right now it gets 8-9mpg and thats ****ed up... no it dont got a gas leak, no its not the o2 censor, the air filter is old but its not clogged...

my uncle says to get a new air filter and give it a tune up... but what else can i do/get to get better mileage? kuz 8-9mpg is WRONG

Posted by: Spork Lover

Air filter / fuel filter / spark Plugs, and stop going WOT with it... its supposed to be slow!

Then y oucan do your basics like making sure your tires are properly inflated.

Posted by: TheeMon

wot?

Posted by: Gerbilo

wide open throttle...
aka
flooring it.

Posted by: Bix VT

you'd be surprised how little of a difference driving at WOT makes in gas mileage (at least in my car) I get 30mpg around town if I drive like an old lady, and 27 if I put my foot on the floor and shift at 3k rpm till I reach my usual 5 over the limit. this is an area where the average speed limit off the highways is 35.

I'll take the hit in mileage for the extra amount of fun.

I4 I believe...apparantly the v6 never came in a 5spd...

But this would be a nice car to learn manual on, take to school, use as a beater...before I finally get my WRX

And leather interior

Posted by: Bix VT

yeah definately don't ;earn stick on a WRX. I learned on my '99 camry, and that's a hard stick to drive, yet when I tested a WRX, I couldn't get it to shift smoothly. the friction point is just way too abrupt.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Yea, AWD cars are harder to drive stick with.

i haven't driven stick in 3years, hehe

What I drive:

1993 Ford Ranger XLT - Mocha Frost
4 cyl, standard cab, 5 speed manual tranny, 2WD
w/ Topper (or shell, whichever you prefer)

What I'll be driving next week:
2003 Dodge Dakota - White
V6, 5 speed Automatic tranny, quad cab (4 standard doors with a full backseat), 4x4

What I want:
1966 Mustang convertible - Mustang Red (you know what I'm talking about... )

What my boyfriend wants:
1969 Mustang Boss 429 - black
Fastback body, and more horses than Kentucky during Derby week...

Oh, and P.S. (a little family joke)

props to you for not being a ***** and buying the V6 stang like everyone else. I think V6 stangs should be outlawed personally...the Mustang is a V8 car.

Ya then from 98-2003 they stopped it, and now you get a 6spd.

Who knows, lol

Posted by: Spork Lover

Srt sold friday.

Ellis Juan replaces it on Thursday

Posted by: Bobaroo

Damn owner of the Accord never picks up the phone

Posted by: Bix VT

Texas roads are slippery.

driving down the road, this white truck short stops in front of this CRV, which also short stops. I can't stop in time, so my sexy-nosed car gets crammed under her rear bumper. the guy behind me in a mid 90s acura then hits me, and then the mexican in a brown pickup hits him. the mexican then flees the scene, but we got his plate number so it's all good.

anyway, the acura got the citation...the cop wasn't very nice to him either. probably because his plates were expired and he had an outstanding speeding ticket.

I'll see if I can get some pics, it's mostly cosmetic stuff except the radiator fan got pushed back a little bit and is now making contact with one of my AC lines.

Haha, I feel the same way. I wouldn't drive any less than a GT - the 6 cylinder is just way too underpowered, and with so many of them on the road it pretty much kills a lot of the excitement by seeing "just another Mustang", until I open it up on a nice flat road. >=)

On a slightly similar note, my girlfriend's step-father has an SVT Cobra. Good god that thing is fast as all hell. It's a 6-speed supercharged V8 with 460hp to the back wheels. He let me drive it and I almost shit my pants, but now I can at least die happy so it's all good.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Ooo lemme drive it when I am in Po town for school

The new ones with the 4.0 6 are surprisingly fun. They certainly have a solid sound (almost sounded like an 8) and they move well enough. I've always agreed with the stigma of v6 mustangs, but I certainly wouldnt be embarassed to own one of the new ones as long as it came with the 5 speed.

Shame that Ford can only manage 210 hp out of a coarse V6 while Honda/Acura is putting out 300 from a smooooth 3.5

It's not just ford though... american 6s really blow compared to their japanese competition

did you put the headers on already? if not then take a pic of the stock headers on the car vs the aftermarket ones, those look pretty sweet.

I always thought the hood scoop on the SS was functional...guess not.

oh btw, what year/mileage is your SS and how much did it cost you?

The hood scoop is functional... just have it blocked off in favor of a much more effiecient ram air system.

40k Miles, 2001, and 15K. It needs new tires and a Brake job... but I got an awesome deal, considering the others I looked at were going for 18k

According to carfax it was bought in aug 2000.... so the car is roughly 5 years old.... mileage isnt too bad at all considering its been driven for 5 years.

Posted by: Bix VT

yeah I'd say you got a pretty sweet deal. are you planning on keeping it NA or going FI sometime in the future?

Posted by: Bobaroo

Need more mullets

Nice car

Posted by: Spork Lover

Haven't decided if Im going to go FI or not. If I am I'll have to get rid of that cam, so I'll have to do it soon. With the cam, headers, pullies, and a good tune I would guesstimate 400rwhp. Thats just $1000 in parts..... with FI, turbo or supercharger, I would spend 4 - 5K on the setup (turbo is cheaper) plus install, plus tune. It would turn out to be 6k roughly afterwards. And with 8psi (what's considered safe on stock fuel system/clutch/rearend, I would be at 460 - 500 rwhp.

If I tacked on heads on top of what I have now i would be around 4k making close to the same amount of power peak, but way more power under the curve.

The guy that I bought it from put 340rwhp. So it's got a healthy amount of power already.

Posted by: Bix VT

yeah, you're making roughly 3 times as much power as me right now...shoot, I still need to take some pics of my front end before I take it in to the shop on monday.

for the FI/NA question though, twin turbo on an american V8 is just straight up awesome. much better than an SC in my opinion.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Turbo is a preferred option on my end too... but space is a premium under that hood. A twin setup is pretty much out of the question, Im not willin to devote the time necessary to make it work. On corvettes they have to hide the freaking turbos in the nose of the cars. bah.

SC is more of a viable option, because it wont require many more exhaust mods like a turbo setup would...... but then again I think I want the cam to go in to give me that lopey v8 sound

Posted by: Bix VT

hmm...well I don't know exactly how much space you have in there, but I'd definately say get a centrifugal blower over a roots type. not a huge fan of roots blowers, they're just so stereotypical of mullet-headed 17 year old guys from alabama with a modified horn that plays dixie.

I have an imagine of spork doing that right now

Posted by: Spork Lover

Roots blowers make better low end power!!!!! I would go for a screw type, best of both worlds.

There is almost no room underneath there....the engine sits so far back it seems like it protrudes into the passenger compartment

Posted by: Bix VT

better handing that way I would imagine...bet it makes it a pain to work on though, probably almost as bad as a V8 astro.

Posted by: SpecOpsHoov

That's a really nice SS. I don't really like the newer body styles but that one is an exception.

Bah, picture got washed out. The top is a beige color (like the interior), not the white it's making it out to be.

Posted by: Bix VT

yeah I figured. I would think you had enough color-coordinating sense to get hunter green and tan, and not hunter green and white.

might have to take my car there some time... when I get done restoring it, of course.

edit: I read the "why did you pick your name?" thread... and you're right, Vitreous Traction is an AWESOME thing to have in your name.

Posted by: Bix VT

thanks!

ok guys, here's the pics I promised you:

don't mind the lovely rope on the front, it's holding down the hood. the latching mechanism got completely jacked up in the accident. I can take some pics of under the hood if you want, but not much happened there...just the radiator fan got pushed back a little bit and the hood latch is fubar. oh, and that dirty spot on the nose is where the front plates were.

frontal pics:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.../Car/crash1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.../Car/crash4.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.../Car/crash2.jpg

and this is where the guy behind me hit me...he was in an acura and the person in front of me was in a toyota Rav4...we both hit each other at about the same speed, but you can see how the height of the SUV came into play with my hood (which is probably the only metal part of my car)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.../Car/crash3.jpg

Posted by: harpyhater

Wow, that blows.

Never been in an accident myself... my only chance of survival if I do is that I can plow straight through the other car. *knock on wood*

Posted by: Bix VT

this is about my 6th or so, I've only had one where I was at fault (and this isn't it)

what do you drive?

Posted by: Bobaroo

So much for dent resistant panals

Posted by: harpyhater

I drive a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500.

390, 3spd auto.

That thing is a torque MONSTER!

Oh yeah, and don't believe the listed 0-60 and 1/4 specs that you'll find online. On 1/8 tank of gas, I can pull 0-60 in 6.0 and a 1/4 in 14'ish (on a good day).

Never doubt a good ol' Ford FE.

Posted by: Bix VT

bobbo: like I said, I think the hood is the only major panel on the car that's metal...go figure. probably would have just scraped some pait if it was my door

and harpy, my grampa has that exact car. I've never driven it, but I have driven his old Ford pickup with a transplanted 427 in it...that thing is fast. shocked the crap out of some guy in a Z28 once, it was hilarious.

Posted by: Spork Lover

Yeah that pic makes the shifter look HUGE. It's not as tal in person, but still too tall for my tastes.

I'm getting a set of 4.10 gears next... they are ordered.

Posted by: harpyhater

Bix: You should ask him if you can take it for a spin. Try breaking traction, I dare you. It's surprisingly difficult considering the fact that a hi-po 390 (what I have) puts out 427 lb-ft. of torque at 3,000 RPM. And what do we Galaxie drivers have to thank for our wonderous surplus of traction? The trunk. I could fit 6, maybe 7 dead bod- I mean... people, laying down- in my trunk. Not only that, but the 21 gallon tank is mounted completely behind the axle. Gotta love leverage.

Also: I need some details on that car :P. Is it a fastback, sedan, boxtop, wagon, or convertible? 2 door or 4 door? Does it have the normal or hi-po 390? (Normal puts out 300 horses, hi-po puts out 330. Only difference is the compression ratio. Normal is painted gold, hi-po is painted blue. Both say "Thunderbird" on the valve covers)

You, sir, have piqued my curiosity!

P.S.: For the sake of comparison...

FASTBACK
http://www.musclecarclub.com/muscle...laxie-1963a.jpg

SEDAN
http://www.hubcapcafe.com/i/2002/ramsey/ford6301a.JPG

BOXTOP (same as sedan, except no B-pillar, so when you roll the windows down it's like one giant window on each side)
http://www.dealsonwheels.com/database/cars/79401big.jpg
(^^ That's almost exactly what I have... I don't have fender skirts, I have a center hood spear, I have the "sport" mirrors, which are smaller and farther back and completely useless, and I have a bigger engine... and that's in better shape... but that's the same style and color)

Wagon and convertible should be obvious...

*phew* that was a long-ass post.

Posted by: Bix VT

it's a convertable, but I've never seen under the hood so I don't know which 390 it has. I'd love to drive it but unfortunately it's in Utah and I'm in southern Texas...ah well.

ever driven a 1st gen 289 mustang? they are surprisingly slow...

Posted by: DemonBob

Wish I could drive that

Posted by: harpyhater

Heh, no I haven't driven a first gen mustang... but believe it or not, the mustang wasn't SUPPOSED to be a performance car when Ford designed it. It was supposed to be cheap and sporty (read: look fast). Later adaptations to market trends towards performance turned the Mustang into a ground-pounder... just look at the Boss 429... OMG!

Posted by: Bix VT

yeah I heard that...I really like the Boss 429 and 302, they are real sweet cars.

Posted by: harpyhater

I had a friend in my old town that had a bright-ass yellow 69 Mustang Fastback that he transplanted a 351c into... that thing hauled ass. Launched off the line like crazy. He beat me over the length of a football field (we had a parking lot at my school that the band used to practice their field show, so it was the exact length of a football field). Anyways, I stomped him over a 1/4 mile. He took off, got about 2 car lengths away, then I pulled HARD on him and ended up beating him by 3 and a half lengths. Great race, would've made a killing charging admission to see it.
