Cool
I looked at the new Tuscon for my mother. I liked the looks a bit more than the Santa Fe's and it's really dirt cheap loaded (Compared to everything else in its class). Only thing it's got going against it is the fact that the CR-V's 4 is more efficient than the Tuscon's 6.

My day wasn't that great along with about 4 other friends, someone went around during the night and spray painted cars/trucks. 4 of us had 'I(heart shape)dick' in black on the side, but that came off easily thankfully. Another friend had it worse, they wrote '**** Mormons' on the side and smashed his windshield. and thankfully, the cops already know who it may be, so justice will be served without me having to go vigilante.

Well, I was assisting with a little S2000 shoot the other day, my material wasn't going to a magazine so I legally can post it wherever If I had time and priority I could have some better shots but as stated above, I was the assistant. Oh, and before you ask, it's an 02 S2000 w/ a Comptech supercharger, NOS Nitrous system, and full Veilside everything, plus more

CAll me nuts... but I think that the stock looks of an S2000 is sooo much better and cleaner..... the power mods are cool though
Posted by: Bix VT
I agree on most of the body kit, but I think the stock S2K could benefit from a light ground effects kit. not something as drastic as that rear bumper though.
it looks nice, if not a tiny bit overdone.

oh, my parents bought an '02 GT yesterday, I'll post pics when they take em.
Posted by: DemonBob
Well guys, I lost my license for a year, so I figure with all the money I save in gas (work is waling distance) I'll put into my 1996 Altmia. I'll have some pictures up soon I plan on riping the whole car apart from body to engine, and do a complete rebuild.
Specs:
2.4L 4cyl Engine Stock
Evo 3 Body Kit (Broke in alot of places due to a 18 wheel losing rubber infront of me: Kit wa on the car when i bought it.)
4 Inch Exchust, Don't know which kind, was on the care when I bought it.
The only thing is I bought this car out of neccessity, meaning my engine blew up in my eclipse and I needed a ride. So it is an automatic, anyone know of a good manufacure for preformace automatic trannys??
Even thought it was bought out of neccessity, I love this car, it's roomy with out being too big and blocky looking.
Posted by: Bix VT
if you're going to do a tranny swap, why not just with a stick?

GM serverly underrated the SS, every place I have read people are loving these things

Hmmm exciting news. Marko the supra dude is now in the Fbody business... doing what else but turbo kits
Posted by: Gerbilo
Haha, yeah, Marko is nuts. I was just up at Sound Performance the other day but didn't see his car there.... Larry's was there though, I'm still not sure what they are going to do with it.
Oh, bob, I was quoted $1400 every 6 months when I bought the car, my bill just came the other day though. $756 for 6 months. My family has had my agent for 22 years so he tries to give hookups I guess, plus turning 21 dropped it down a bit. Oh yeah, i have full coverage w/ 250/500 deductibles... and it's StateFarm and they love to rape....

Hey hey guys... it's been a while since I posted... but I have some news.
I'm getting another car to drive around while I rebuild my Galaxie.
Brace yourselves, because I'm about to inspire loads of jealousy...
it's a 1977 Datsun 280z.
Unbelievably, though, I can't seem to find 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for a factory stock '77 280z online... anywhere. Plenty for custom z's. Plenty for other years. NOTHING for the 77, and I have no idea why. Does anyone have this info?
Any help would be appreciated.

You can brake boost while moving? Interesting
Posted by: Spork Lover
Brake + Gas while moving = brake boosting... you create a load on the engine by adding the braking resisitance..... and that is when exhaust velocities increase, and boost increases..

short, yet accurate. ++bonus points
on a related note, anyone know where I can find a nice shift grip for my car? I'm getting a short shifter and the stock knob is way too tall, so it looks all craptastic.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Skunk2 shift knob
It's a nice type R replica and probably what I would get. Nice and heavy for smooth throws.
Posted by: Bix VT
hmm...do they make it in leather? or at least a satin black

do you have a new one Gerb? I dont like the integras knob

Negative. Mine is still in working order so I've kept it. I was thinking about replacing it for quite some time now though. A real Type R knob from Honda is like $200, the skunk2 one is a replica that is really nice and weighs a lot for smooth throws.

OH YES
This weekend was IDRA: Battle of the Imports at Route 66 Raceway.
I have a buncha pics and videos, but i've used up a shit-ton of bandwidth on my server with them. I'll put some up for you guys soon, for now here is a coupla pics and a video of my friend's car running a qualifying pass. It's a 1g Talon, and mind you it's a daily driver that he drove to/from the track. He ended up winning the Street Tuner class. The Drivers Image MR2 set a world record time of 9.81 breaking their own record of 9.83. Stephanie's Civic ran some hot times winning one of the Pro classes w/ an 8.8

you can see why I want to get rid of the stocker, it doesn't look so hot after it's been shortened.
suggestions?

not sure, Honda's have a unique style that I can't see in any other car. You have to be a long time HTer or big into them to even understand what the hell is going on though.
There are tons of styles available, you have to figure out what you want. That knob isn't that bad.

the HHR officially takes the cake from the Aztek, the PT Cruiser, and the SSR as the ugliest stock vehicle on our roads today. it's also got about the same offroad capabilities as my saturn, so I dont see where they get off calling it an SUV.

I think the HHR is great compared to the PT cruiser.
Posted by: Bix VT
to it's credit, at least the HHR doesn't suffer from being underpowered. it's engine only has to move 3200lbs, unlike the PT's 4000, which is outrageous for it's size. the HHR also seems to have more interior room, which was one of my other big complaints about the PT Cruiser (leaving all ugliness aside)

whats the desiding factors that determine weather a car can travel long distances or not?
also it would stand to reason if a car could make it on a 3hr drive it would make it on a 6hr drive also?
Posted by: Bix VT
what kind of noises is the car making?
Posted by: Gerbilo
lol, didn't you post this same question like a year ago?
Posted by: TheeMon
regular car noises bix, its not making any "weird noises" basicly its a fine running car, but i aint never drove it more then a hours distance...
+ gerb, prolly i have a short term memory and tend to repeat myself over time
Posted by: Bix VT
if it's not making any ticking, grinding, or squeeling noises, it doesn't smoke, and it has enough oil, then you're probably safe for a trip across the country.
just keep your eye out for anything out of the ordinary
oh, and how much oil does it burn?
Posted by: TheeMon
i dont know that answer bix
Posted by: Bix VT
...do you know where the dipstick is?
Posted by: TheeMon
yes, i also just did a oil change but it aint ran enough to check
Posted by: Bix VT
ok well, how often do you add oil to your car?
for example, I have to add roughly 1 quart between oil changes, around 2500 miles into the oil change.
simple way to tell if you're burning lots of oil: what color is your exhaust? does it have a funny smell to it?
oops, I think I just told theemon to sniff exhaust fumes.

Yeah so, my third radio got stolen a week ago. Rather than buying yet another $150+ unit, I just want to reconnect the original equipment. Can any of you helpful car guys point me to a website or forum where I can get help on what wires go where on my 1994 Chevy truck? It turns out it's a little more complicated than I thought when I tried to recombobulate it myself. There's some mystery wires that I guess plug into someplace, but I can't find where.

I'll keep my eye open for you... I don't know of anything off the top of my head. I'd suggest searching for one of the larger 4x4 forums or seeing if you can find the chiltons/haynes or a helms manual. I'll let ya know if I find anything.

this is if you want it to be a 20 valve
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/...rgediagram3.bmp
Braided steel line is used for the turbo oil supply and oil pressure sender. The knock sensor was converted to bolt into a smaller hole, since its original location behind the supercharger was blocked by a water pipe.

Posted by: Bix VT
oh I see...so you have the exhaust routed clear the heck around the other wide of the engine...wouldnt it have been better to just have the turbo mounted on a standard manifold and then route the intake piping instead of the exhaust? it seems like it would make a lot less heat that way.

The newer Mustangs are great until you get to the fugly retro interior. Retro bodywork is doable, as evidenced by the Mustang (and the Challenger concept looks pretty nice as well), but the seperated circular guages are just annoying.
Posted by: Gerbilo
I think the Challenger concept looks great! I just wish they did that with the Charger instead. The Charger is the Dodge car that I would like to have seen remade in a proper manner. The new one to me I do not like at all... I also am a lil biased when it comes to any Chrysler cars though. Although the SRT-8 300 I really do like... scary. For the new Mustang, it's nice to see they finally replaced that old fox chassis they were still working on up until 04. It's a nice new improvement.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Oh yes, I am also amped because hopefully within the next week I'll be ordering my goodies for spring. new tires and wheels
Wheels are a secret, but I think I'm going with Rays black lugnuts for them. The tires I'm torn between Yokohama Parada spec2 and Toyo T1r. I'd got with Falken Azenis but they don't make them in the proper size.
Posted by: Bix VT
come to find out (over aim) thee was actually talking about the previous generation. he apparently drove several of them from dealer to dealer when that was his job. they were all automatics. he has no idea what size engine was in them. he didn't test the limits of the car. he drove them just like any other car, ergo they felt pretty much just like every other car.
someone needs to go up to ohio in a manual GT and show him what he was missing.

I need to get the SI wheels, otherwise I am good to go
Posted by: Gerbilo
niiice work bobbbbb. If you need any guidance when it comes to hondas I can help. SI wheels or LSmesh would look good too. Or GS-R Blades are even better, mine are about to go bye-bye though
oh yeah, swap that bitch.
Posted by: Bobaroo
hehe. Any suggestions you have?
Posted by: Gerbilo
lots, it just depends on where you wanna get started.
Posted by: Bobaroo
Heh, thinking to start off cheap for now and see where it takes me
Posted by: Gerbilo
are you looking for power? handling? looks? etc?
Posted by: Bobaroo
Probably power. I have the look i want for now and it seems to handle decently
Posted by: Gerbilo
Well, I'm not sure what is done suspension wise, but that was the first step I went with and I'd say go with an Integra Type R rear sway bar. Biggest suspension upgrade for the money. I forgot what your year civic had for the bar size, but my stock GS-R was 14mm. You'd probably be the same or 12.7mm. The ITR bar is 22mm and a huge upgrade.
For power, well, you already have some of the basic bolt-ons. You're on a Dseries so there isn't all that much else you can do for cheap. Unless you plan to seriously build that motor, a Bseries swap is the way to go.
Posted by: Bobaroo
How much would the sway bar cost? any good places to get it?
A friend of mine also mentioned putting in a short shifter, saying i could get it for very cheap, but i dont even know what I'd get out of one

What I drive right now is a 1994 Saturn SL 2 that I get an average of 42 miles to the gallon on. Granted, it's getting old. But I figure if I can get that kind of efficiency without having to blow money I don't have on a hybrid vehicle then it is very good.
What I would like to drive is a hole in one on a golf course. (Just kidding! I've never golfed in my life!)
What I'd really like to drive is a vehicle that gets the performance of a Viper with the efficiency of something like a Toyota, but they don't make such a car so far. Or a nuclear powered submarine would be nice (even though it comes with energy costs of its own) just to be able to say I did it!

right on, man. Saturn FTW.

Look into corvettes ... depending on what toyota you are talking about vettes can match fuel economy or even get better. I've read of owners of the new C6 Z06 getting as good as 27mpg on the highway..... not bad for a 500HP car.

That's where I got my stuff at, They use the OEM ITR sway bar and throw in all the parts to install, plus subframe reinforcements.
http://gerbilo.com/random/IMG_7945small.jpg
Mine installed along with the Beaks lower tie bar.

Stock 14mm GS-R sway bar in comparison to the upgraded 22mm ITR bar.
I wouldn't worry about a short shifter, you've got a civic, they aren't bad in stock form, plus you'd have to replace it if you went with a motorswap anyway

As I told Bix, I'm going to go turbo on my GS-R eventually... but I'm going to do it right, btw, he was somewhat surprised by my count of what doing it right costs... $8000. Yup. If you wanna know specifics, i'll go in detail.

Save your pennies, and trade the Honduh on a Vette.... c5 Z06 even.... in the end it will be faster, and you dont have to worry about tuning and maintenance
Posted by: Spork Lover
I would be leery of that turbo kit. It doesnt say what brand turbo it is. There has been a ton of cheap chinese turbo knockoffs that die the first time they hit boost.
The ad says the manifold is for a garret.... but when you look at the listed items it doesnt say the actualy brand, nor is there a close up of the turbo housing showing the brand name casted into it.

That kit IS one of the cheap chinese knockoffs.
BTW, I'll stick with my Honda for now, 30mpg and haven't ever had any reliability issues in over 2 years.

Does anybody know how they got the chrome looking paint of the bumper covers to match the polished aluminum of the body so well?
Posted by: euphi212
"Because of the fact that it is impossible to polish plastic parts like front- and rearspoiler, mirror house, side sillboard or also fuel tank cap, they were enameled in a complex way to get a chrome effect. Finaly they were polished with clear varnish." -Taken from the mtm website.

always scary to think what the price of gasoline can do to most people's automotive interests

Posted by: TheeMon
omg speaking of gas, its 2.39$ here... that almost made me pitch a tent

It's $3.15 at the Shell station down our block....

Gas prices caused me to invest in teleportation technology.
Several truhorror movies have been filmed with my digital camera and will be hitting the black market soon.

Gas is about 2.85 in Denver, that's 85 Octane though. You can't get 85 most places. 87 is regular almost everywhere else.
Posted by: Bix VT
$2.32 today here in metro Atlanta. I'm loving my 36mpg
Posted by: Bobaroo
2.87 last night in NY
I wish i was home in jersey...probably around $2.20 there
Posted by: TheeMon
omg i seen e85 gas in pittsburgh yesterday...
hey i know its made out of corn n shit but how does it rate in a gas area, like we got 87(cheap gas that everyone uses) the like 89 and 93 or something, anyways is e85 better then 87(i know e85 is 85%ethenol and 87 is octane) but i dont like nothing else about it... school me

Whoa, hey kids, how's it goin?
My goodies finally arrived
I haven't had a chance to go out and take any decent pictures, but I did snap a teaser until I can.
6 months later they finally arrive from Japan.

dang, looking nice there gerb. do they make clear corners for your car? I bet that would look pretty nice.
Posted by: TheeMon
honostly i think the gold rims look gay, shoulda went with chrome
Posted by: Bix VT
no way, dude. chrome doesn't look good on a car like that. the lightest finish I'd have gone with would have been brushed aluminum, but that wouldn't have looked as good given the rim design. I think gold was probably the best choice.
Posted by: Gerbilo
Of course they make clear corners, I drive a Honda, they make everything for my car.
I went with gold because it's what I have wanted for this car for quite some time. Gold and purple are opposite colors in the spectrum and they come together well on my color car.
If I were to do any chrome it would be a polished lip, which I do want, but couldn't afford. I was also thinking of going with different wheels in gunmetal with a polished lip, but that was also going to get expensive for what I wanted. $1400 is enough for now.

Need to post some pics.. but my Toaster got sodimized.. by a Ford Esacpe...
Seems that some lady from New Mexico wanted to be in the space I was in.. and I was there.. Stopped.. waiting on traffic to clear so I could make a right turn.. and BAM!!!.. was a bit pissed.. for about 3 seconds... then concerend for the little kid that I saw when I looked in the rear view.. little head popped up out of the back seat.. thankfully no injury's.. and it cost her insurance like 3k to fix my toaster..
It's all fixed.. new bumper.. new rear liftgate..

another question, people always say you gotta let your car warm up in the cold right? well why? ive never done it and never had a problem...
Posted by: pdnielsen
Is this the longest thread OTS has ever had yet?
Warming up the car is just a waste of $2.39/gallon these days. With the electronics under the hood that control the engine it really isn't needed unless you have a thick layer of ice on the windshield that you need help melting off with the defroster.
I get slightly higher efficiency with my winter tires than I do with the radials for spring and construction. It's an increase from 36 miles/gallon to 40/gallon. Saturn keeps trying to buy back my '94 so they can get my SSD. They can't have it!
Posted by: shadysoldier
most people warm up their car because , usually when you first enter the car it is very cold.
