Mouse not detected?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have just reinstalled windows and the logitech mouse which has always loaded up for me previously just does not detect. I have obtained Logitech mouseworks drivers just in case - but that did not help. Is it possible that my mouse port died (It worked fine a few hours ago)? How can I find out? Also how can you add a mouse through add hardware in control panels? Logitech is not a company which you can chose from the available list. Thanks for help.
PS. I've used a PS2--->COM converter and plugged the mouse into the COM port - yet it still does not find it.

Try another mouse if you can get your hands on one. that will narrow it down, if another mouse works then it has to be the mouse that is bad.

I have taken my mouse to a friend's computer and it worked fine there. So I assume it is not my mouse that is at fault since it works on other computers.
this is really annoying - keyboard mouse is horrible in my opinion.
Ideas?
PS. I tried connecting it via a COM port but still no luck.
PSS. Could it be an IRQ error? I did set my computer to safe deaults but still no dice.
PSSS. I also checked Device Manager and the Mouse and pointing devices option is not listed.

You might consider reinstalling the chipset drivers

update - I found another mouse - plugged it in - it is optical - it lights up, and still it won't budge.
Well I downloaded some AMD drivers for my 1200 mhz AMD chip - but still nothing.

might want to install them as well.. http://213.246.40.109/images/perso/alysum%20%20.gif
Anyways, I was referring to the chipset, not the CPU - chipset is what controls IDE, USB & all the mboards different buses - in other words, the chipset "is" the mainboard. It can be SiS, VIA, nForce, etc.. Check your mboard's manual

He probably means he downloaded the AMD drivers via Windows Update.. which is pretty much the only place you can get them. They're installed automatically.

Let me clarfiy - I installed my processor's update and INSTALLED it and now I am going to install my mobo Abit KT7A RAID .... so I need to restart.... doing it now...
Ok installed latest service pack for my mobo.
Drivers did nothing - However..... listen to this..
I plugged in a USB mouse and it worked.... however the monitor started to turn OFF and ON by itself for a few minutes and now it is stable.... however this mouse is pretty poor - the clicking keys are not stable.
Any ideas what might be happening?

UPDATE: - I have gotten a USB-PS2 converter and I plugged it into my 4 USB ports - Nothing works - none of the ports detect the mouse, my PS2 port is still down. I have 2 mice plugged in right now - one via USB one via PS2 and both do not work. I have plugged in my modem via USB and it is detected - but not my mouse. Any idea what is going on?
Let me explain set up here.
1. PS/2 port
2. 1st mobo IO USB port (with a ps/2-usb adapter)
3. 2nd mobo IO USB port (with a ps/2-usb adapter)
4. 1st Sound Card USB port (with a ps/2-usb adapter)
5. 2nd Sound Card USB port. (with a ps/2-usb adapter)
6. COM1 port (with a ps/2-com adapter)
I tried 3 different mice (one brand new out of store) and none work. Is my comp cursed or what?

Well - I have purchased a new mouse - Logitech optical USB and it worked.
I seriously do not know what is going on. - I think I cannot use PS/2 mice at all - even if I use correct adapters.

You probably have a bad ps/2 port then. Should be fine, as long as you don't have any problems with USB mice...if you think they are all built by nazi-communists however, your only choice is to get a new mobo.
