Every 2/3 seconds my CPU usage jumps to 100% then gos down to normal.I am not running any other programs when this happens. It constantly does this.I have run an anti-spyware program and done various virus checks, but nothing.I recently installed Service packs from microsoft could this be a problem?.Thanks

redwench is saying that you should check up on what Windows XP Services are running. This is a good "tweak guide" to the Windows XP Services:

http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/service411.htm

Go through all of the services in your service list and stop/disable any that you don't need, and see if you still have the CPU usage problem.
