OS Upgrade

I want to upgrade my Gateway Solo 9300 from Windows ME to Windows XP. I'm finding that ME is very unstable and giving me lots of problems. Is upgrading to XP the right thing to do? If so, what is the correct way to do this? Is there anything I should avoid? Any help would be appreciated.

ideally, you should just buy a full copy of xp and repartition/format the drive and install. if you must upgrade, back up anything important and follow the directions that came with the upgrade.

You can do a fresh install of Windows XP even if you only have an upgrade version. Win XP will search for a previous version of Windows on your system. If it doesn't find one (because you've formatted your HD) then it will prompt you to insert a CD with an old copy of windows to verify that you are authorized to upgrade.

As far as I know, that authorization step is the only difference between an upgrade version and a full license version of XP.

But I do agree that it's best to back up, format your drive, and do a full installation from scratch.
