Can't release IP address assgned to network card

I am trying to set up a dsl connection. I am running Windows2000 Pro. The modem seems to be working fine. Windows says the ethernet card is working properly. I have set it up to use DHCP (as required by the provider). But I can't access the internet. ipconfig /all tells me that the card has an IP address assigned (apparently was done manually). I can't release it.
How can I get it to obtain IP address using DHCP?

Just to double-check. Go to start/settings/network and dial up connections.
-right-click on the Local area connection, and select properties.
-double-click on TCP/IP
-See if you have Obtain an Ip address automatically checked. If not, select it.
This should allow the computer to accept an IP address from a DHCP server

Also, an easy way if you're using Win XP is to hold down your Windows key, press pause, go to hardware and uninstall your NIC. This resets it totally including any funky protocols that may be attached.

Hello , Try resetting your DHCP settings within your router if you have one . Or reinstall your Network Interface Card .
Hope this helps , Brandon
