OK i am s[z_redneck of clan s[z and i am a long time user of SC. I have a poblem with lag. I lag like HELLo. Please pardon the French. I am on a good pentium 4 operating system. I have never had problems with lag until about 5 weeks ago and i am running out of things to do to get rid of it. I use Spy Bot S&D regularly. (updated v too). And i still lag. i need help. Does MSN Messenger have something to do wiht it. I dont use AOL just to tell you all that thats not it. I dont even have AIM installed anymore because i heard that that causes lag. I never run any programs while i play. But my brother and i use a router. on the router we have 2 comps and sometimes a ps2. ( i am prepared for SC ghost . I need any help i can get. i have no other games installed. I clear out cookie folder and temp folder and temperary internet files regularly. HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt that MSN Messenger is contributing to your lag, but one thing to try would be to do a "selective startup" in Windows, which closes every running background program that isn't essential to Windows' functionality. Use msconfig to do a selective startup. The Pentium 4 is not an operating system... what version of Windows are you using?
Do you have this "lag" problem in single-player? If you don't, then most likely the issue is with your connection.
AIM hasn't caused any lag problems for me...
After doing a selective startup, the next thing I would do is bypass the router and see if your lag problem goes away. If it does, then that narrows down the problem quite a bit.
Clearing out your cookies and temporary Internet files won't affect your lag problem, but it's still good to do regularly anyway.
Does the other computer connected to the router lag in Starcraft games? If it doesn't, then most likely your system is at fault and not your connection.

ty for your input
my comp has no lag in single player
i haven't tried bypassing the router
i use a 98 operating system
dont bother telling me its old
it may be connection. and no other comp is so fast it neve lags
if my other comp thats sharing the router is downloading anime doea that contribute to my lag
other comp never lags has no problems
and i know it not a operating system i just didnt know how to spell proccessor at the tim of publication

Okay... if you're using Windows 98, follow these steps to do a selective startup:
Click Start and select Run, then type "msconfig" and click OK.
In the General tab:
Choose Selective Startup
Disable Process the config.sys file
Disable Process the autoexec.bat file
Disable Load startup group items
Click OK and Reboot
I did not intend to comment on your choice of operating system. Windows 98 itself isn't causing your lag, it's something else.
If your other computer is consuming your connection bandwidth while you're playing, then that's why you're lagging. While you're playing, make sure that ALL running programs that consume bandwidth are closed.

no i mean the other computer on the same router and yes when i asked my bother(owner of comp). to tempararly pause his DLing lag has dramaticaly decreased, but it doesnt go all the way away. why?

Yes, I know that you meant the other computer connected to the router, a computer that isn't connected to it won't be able to download things from the Internet (unless it has a separate dedicated connection).
I'm not surprised that your lag mostly went away when your brother stopped downloading, most likely he's sucking up a large portion of your connection bandwidth. The lag should disappear completely if he closes ALL of the programs he's running that eat up bandwidth and terminates ALL of his uploads and downloads...

Ok i'll try that thanks a lot man

Yeah, if you are on Dialup, your brother shouldn't be downloading or using the internet at all. If he is it is going to cause A LOT of lag for you.
